Boxing Rankings

Since profit-minded sanctioning bodies have risen in prominence, clarity has become a casualty. Boxing has seventeen weight divisions; common sense tells us that no more than seventeen world champions can thus emerge, and yet there are over seventy claimants defending over eighty belts. Confusion reigns.

The Transnational Boxing Rankings Board heralds a return to clarity and common sense. Its rankings are worked out on a weekly basis by a reputable membership representing 14 countries and Puerto Rico. All of the members are boxing writers and/or record keepers who are strictly volunteers. The rankings discussion/debate begins on Sunday with results published every Tuesday. A close examination of the previous week's bouts, particularly winning streaks, level of opposition, and current form are considered in making rankings changes.

A clear path to each division's throne, strict enough to befit boxing's True Champions, has been marked. At this time, the Board recognizes eight:

Heavyweight: Wladimir Klitschko
Light Heavyweight: Adonis Stevenson
Super Middleweight: Andre Ward
Middleweight: Sergio Martinez
Junior Middleweight: Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
Junior Welterweight: Danny Garcia
Junior Featherweight: Guillermo Rigondeaux
Flyweight: Akira Yaegashi

The Board operates under a charter that provides a measure of objectivity and consistency and keeps them focused on their mission, which is as follows:

The Transnational Boxing Rankings Board was formed in October 2012 as a not-for-profit initiative to provide boxing with authoritative top-ten rankings, identify the singular world champion of every division by strict reasoning and common sense, and to insist on the sport’s reform. Board membership includes over thirty respected boxing journalists and record keepers from around the world who are uncompromised by so-called sanctioning bodies and promoters.
