New York, NY (April 8, 2013) – Captain Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson will take a step up in competition when he challenges battle-tested Troy “TNT” Lowry in a six round junior middleweight contest Saturday, April 27 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. One of New York’s most popular fighters, Melson fought to a controversial draw last October in the first bout ever at the Barclays Center. Following his bout in October, Melson, 10-1-1 (4 KO’s), took a much-needed break from boxing after fighting seven times in a twelve month period. Ironically, Melson’s return was initially slated for February, but the entire card was postponed when main event participant Danny Garcia suffered an injury. “Everybody was telling me that I was killing myself by fighting too often and I didn’t listen,” said Melson, who works full-time for Johnson & Johnson, is an Army Reserve Officer and occasionally teaches fitness courses at Equinox. "I had no idea I had competed 7 times in a 12 month... Read more...

Chicago Promoter Bobby Hitz refuses to take "no" for an answer regarding Fres Oquendo's WBA heavyweight title shot against the Russian WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin."Yesterday, we put out a press release telling the truth, and today they are calling, begging us to tell a lie. But I'm not afraid to tell the world what is really going on," said Hitz. "We were offered a heavyweight title fight against Povetkin a couple of weeks ago and we accepted Povetkin's lowball offer because we know that Fres can knock out Povetkin. And it is absolutely true that Povetkin's handlers informed us that they were going in a different direction, because after studying Fres they realized that Fres was too fast, too slick and too big a risk for Povetkin. Povetkin's handlers told us themselves that they want an 'easy' opponent which is why they are now considering the unknown Polish fighter Andrzej Wawrzyk, who has fought nobody.""After we put out our release, I got a call from a major boxing website...
