NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA (May 7, 2015) – Former Two-Time World Champion, Daniel Geale (31-3, 16 KO's) is finalizing his last days of training in Australia as he prepares for his upcoming June 6 world championship bout against WBC and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KO's) which will be televised live on HBO from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

“Training camp has started off on the right track,” said Daniel Geale. “I'm super focused on Miguel Cotto and we have a nice game plan were working on. My countrymen have shown a tremendous amount of support since I came back from the press conference. I'm getting some good work with some mates here at home and my body feels good. I'll be leaving to start training in the United States shortly and it's something I'm looking forward too. Cotto is a great champion, but I'm coming to win and bring that belt home to Australia.”

“Daniel Geale and his team have assured me that he's looking real sharp in camp,” said co-promoter Gary Shaw. “We have everything set up once he arrives in the United States. This is a fight the fans won't want to miss.”

Geale came in at the WBC 30 day weigh in at 158. Cotto insisted on the catchweight of 157 which a lot of people thought Geale would have a difficult time making and he is almost already there. This shows that Geale has been staying in good shape in between fights. It does not appear the catchweight will be an issue for him and that he won't be totally drawn at the weigh in. This is a dangerous fight for Cotto. Geale is a solid full fledged middleweight who can fight. Remember, he won the title on foreign soil and even beat Felix Sturm by decision in Germany. A lot of US fans and boxing experts for that matter are judging him on the Barker and Golovkin fights (especially Golovkin fight). The Barker fight was very close and could have gone either way. Barker was fighting very motivated and literally at his best that night. And nobody has remotely competed with Golovkin in the last few years. Lets keep in mind too that not only is Geale bigger but he uses lateral movement very well inside the ring. What fighters has Cotto historically not fared well against? Well those who use their legs. I will say this too. When Cotto has lost recently, he has not been with Top Rank. And in this fight, guess what? He is not with Top Rank again. Top Rank would never have signed off on Geale as an opponent for Cotto but the inexperienced Roc Nation went through with the fight probably only having seen Geale fight Golovkin. The signs are there for an upset in New York next month.
