NABF President’s Report – January 2012

Hoping that 2012 will be a Banner Year for the NABF

The recent WBC Convention in Las Vegas had to be, in my opinion, the best yet, over 90 present and former Champions in attendance as well as over 1,100 guests. A great time was had by all. A tremendous job by the WBC Office staff.

NABF Convention – 2012

We are looking into holding our Convention in conjunction with the WBC in Cancun, Mexico, in November. It would mean less expense to our members who generally attend both conventions. As this will be the 50th anniversary of the WBC, it is sure to be a great gathering of champions as well as boxing friends.

Fight Results

On 22 December in Oklahoma City, Michael Medina defeated champion Grady Brewer by unanimous decision to gain the NABF super welterweight title.

Upcoming Bouts:

6 January in Key West, Florida: Dyah Davis meets Alphonso Lopez for the vacant super middleweight title.

21 January at Roseland Ballroom, NYC: Gabriel Bracero defends his super lightweight title against Michael Clark.

28 January at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York: Brian Minto takes on Tony Grano in a heavyweight elimination bout.

18 February in Munich, Germany: Johnathon Banks defends his heavyweight title against DaVarryl Williamson.

To date since our June Convention, 27 NABF Title bouts.

On 18 December, Ring 8 awarded it’s Humanitarian Award to our own Jill Diamond. A well deserved honor.

[url=] Jessie Magdaleno Talks To TBC - The announcement came down recently that WBO world super bantamweight champion Jessie Magdaleno (24-0) would be making the first defense of his title on April 22nd when promoter Bob Arum and Top Rank have reserved the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Magdaleno has signed to face Brazil’s Adeilson Dos Santos (18-2) as one of three world title fights. Magdaleno won the belt this past November when he defeated veteran champion Nonito Donaire on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s PPV fight with Jessie Vargas. Magdaleno won a unanimous decision that saw his speed and precision make the difference against the highly skilled Donaire. At 25 years old, Magdaleno is looking for a long title reign and it all begins again in April. As for dos Santos, his resume is built up mainly fighting in his home country, but one of his career losses came in England at the hands of undefeated Kid Galahad, whom he took twelve rounds. Dos Santos is on a three fight winning streak and all three of those wins have come by way of stoppage.   Jessie Magdaleno Talks To TBC In this latest TBC report our roving cameraman Marcelino Castillo catches up with Jessie Magdaleno to talk fights.
