BROOKLYN, N.Y, April 26 - The title of "Cancer Survivor" is the most important accolade Daniel "Miracle Man" Jacobs will ever earn, and this Friday, Jacobs and Golden Boy Promotions will be assisting others in reaching that milestone as well. In order to raise funds and awareness for world-renowned pediatric cancer charity, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer, a lemonade stand will be on site at Barclays Center in Brooklyn during the Friday, April 26 public weigh-in of the Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah Unified Super Lightweight World Championship taking place on Saturday, April 27. The stand will be located in the Barclays Center Geico Atrium.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to set up a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex set up that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $60 million toward fulfilling Alex's dream of finding a cure, funding over 275 pediatric cancer research projects nationally. For more information on Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, visit AlexsLemonade.org.
As Jacobs overcame a battle against Osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer often found in younger patients, it was important to him to support this outstanding charity focusing on children. The 26-year-old middleweight isn't the only cancer survivor playing a major role in Saturday's highly anticipated boxing event at Barclays Center. Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny "Swift" Garcia's father and trainer, Angel Garcia, courageously fought stage four throat cancer during his son's amateur career. The elder Garcia won his difficult battle with cancer, enabling him to guide his son to professional boxing stardom.
Fans and media members can support this cause by purchasing lemonade and/or making a donation at the lemonade stand on site on Friday. Jacobs and his son Nathaniel, as well as some of the families of Saturday night's participants are scheduled to be on site pouring lemonade to raise funds for Alex's Lemonade Stand. In addition to cash purchases, donations can be made via text and check at the lemonade stand. For those unable to attend the weigh-in at Barclays Center, they can support Jacobs' cause and Alex's Lemonade Stand through the official fundraising page of Alex's Lemonade Stand on their website. |

Here's what the fighters said Wednesday:
DANNY GARCIA, WBA Super, WBC and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Champion
On how he feels going into the fight: "I feel great and 100 percent ready. I'm motivated, hungry and sharp. I'm focused and I'm ready to go in there on April 27 and put on a tremendous show.
"I don't need negativity to motivate me. I'm a positive person. Negativity doesn't motivate me. I'm motivated by positive things'
On fighting at Barclays Center: "I'm ready to take over Brooklyn.
On Philly fans coming to the fight: "I guarantee I have more fans than Zab has coming to the fight.
On training camp: "My training camp was perfect. I think it was the best training camp I've ever had. Everything was on point...sparring, running, training, conditioning. Everything went perfect."
PETER QUILLIN, WBO Middleweight World Champion
On being a middleweight: "I'm just very blessed to be able to be part of a division that is always an attractive weight class. The middleweights, you've got the speed and then you have the power. It's like 50/50. It's an action-packed weight class. I just want to make sure that when I go out there, I'm adding my own part of history to that.
On how Guerrero stacks up to other opponents he's faced: "Guerrero deserves a shot at the belt. It's something he worked for all his life, just like I did. Nobody's going to come here and beat me. I already know I can put in a hard 12 rounds. This time, I got the best that money can buy. I got the best trainers and the best camp. This has by far been the best camp in my whole professional career. I know I'm well prepared and I'm ready. I'm keeping this belt in New York City.
On fighting Guerrero: "For the opportunity that he got, it's something that he's got to take in and know that it's right there in front on him. If he's not prepared fighting a guy like me, it's going to show right away. We can be friends outside of the ring, but as soon as we step in the ring, no more friendship.
On the biggest challenger to his title: "I welcome all challengers, but I know there isn't a middleweight like me. I'm the best in the world. I look in the mirror and see myself and say, 'even he can't beat me.' I know what I'm doing outside of the ring is helping me to be a better fighter in the ring. That being said, let them all come."
FERNANDO GUERRERO, Hard-Hitting, World-Ranked Contender
On the delay of the fight: "You've got to be ready for everything in the boxing world. We're so used to it, dating to even in the amateurs. Until you're in the ring, the fight might not happen, and even when you're in the ring, the opponent might not show up. For me it's just that experience. You live it and you make the best out of it, and I surely do.
On what he'll bring to the ring to get a win: "Explosion. We've got to bring that smart, we've got to bring that power and we've got to bring that hunger. It's better shown in the ring. I'm not just excited for the fight. I want people to know what I can do.
On how many fans he's expecting at Barclays Center: "When I packed the house in Maryland (for a fight against Derrick Findley in Salisbury), I expected one person to be there, my father, but thousands were there. (This fight) I'm expecting maybe two people. We'll see how many people come and show up.
On acting like a gentleman at press events: "I can only be me. If I feel the need to cuss, I'll probably do it, if I feel the need to not cuss, I probably won't do it. I don't try to sell fights. The fights should be able to sell themselves. I try to sell myself as the person that I am.
On how this is different than his other fights: "I'm expecting a lot out of myself. I'm going to try and push myself harder, mentally and physically. I want to impress myself, I want to develop."
ZACHARY OCHOA, Undefeated Brooklyn Light Heavyweight
On his fight prediction: "My prediction is, I box my way to a knock out.
"I want to say thank you to Golden Boy Promotions and SHOWTIME for giving me the opportunity to fight on this card. It's great for me to show my talent and show the world what I'm working with."

Bethlehem, PA- World-class boxing returns to the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem on Friday evening, June 14, when a blockbuster triple header of fights with international as well as national implications headlines a card which will be televised live by the NBC Sports Network as part of its popular Fight Night series, beginning 9pm ET.
In a 10-round heavyweight contest, fast-rising Bryant Jennings, of Philadelphia, PA, will come up against powerful Andrey Fedosov, of Shuya, Russia.
Knockout artist Sergey Kovalev faces Cornelius White of Houston, TX, in a 12-round mandated bout for the vacant number 1 position in the IBF light heavyweight world rankings.
In the opening bout, a 10-round welterweight match, Bethlehem's Ronald Cruz hopes to rebound from his first loss as a pro when he takes on rugged Jaime Herrera, of Franklin Park, IL.
Jennings, 28, broke into the world ratings in 2012 by winning all five of his fights (four of them televised by the NBC Sports Network), topped by wins over previously unbeaten southpaw Maurice Byarm, of Washington, DC, and former WBO heavyweight champion Siarhei Liakhovich, of Vitebsk, Belarus. Those wins pushed Jennings' record to 16-0, 8 KOs, and landed him the # 3 spot in the world ratings by the IBF. Pretty heady stuff for a fighter who turned pro in 2010!
Fedosov, 27, also is riding high after knocking out veteran Darnell Wilson, of Takoma Park, MD, in his last fight April 20 in Hammond, IN, bringing his record to 24-2, 19 KOs.
Kovalev, 30, is currently ranked #4 by the IBF, 20-0-1,18 KOs and impressed Fight Night viewers in January with a dominant stoppage of former champion Gabriel Campillo. The highly anticipated test for Kovalev ended when Campillo made three trips to the canvas in round three. Since then, everyone has been buzzing about the Russian puncher, who now fights out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Kovalev's previous two starts were also televised by NBC Sports Network.
Cornelius "Da Beast" White, 31, is currently ranked #5 by the IBF and sports a record of 21-1, 16 KOs. The pair will enter the ring with rather similar records, but White will have the size advantage.
In the welterweight matchup, Cruz, 26, hopes to get back on the winning track after losing for the first time when he dropped a 10-round split decision to contender Antwone Smith, of Miami, FL, in his last fight Sept. 21 in the same ring.
A pro since 2009, Cruz is 17-1, 12 KOs. Both Cruz-Brewer and Cruz's previous fight against Prenice Brewer were televised by NBC Sports Network.
Herrera, 24, likes to walk-in and bang, a style which should make his fight with Cruz a war. A pro since 2009, Herrera is 10-2, 5 KOs, but may have been unlucky to drop an eight-round decision to Adrian Granados, of Cicero, IL, in 2012. Many ringsiders felt Herrera did enough to beat Granados, who recently boxed a 10-round draw with Kermit Cintron, of Reading, PA.

Daniel "Miracle Man" Jacobs Heads in to Fight Week with a Clean Bill of Health

Jacobs with Dr. Hartl at his recent visit
|
(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) - Daniel "Miracle Man" Jacobs (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is heading in to his third fight back from cancer on Saturday at the Barclays Center, and he will be able to do so with his mind solely focused on boxing. The 26-year-old is wrapping up a successful training camp in the New York area, and great news at a recent doctors visit ensured that he will enter the April 27th bout with his mind clear.
Jacobs' doctor, Dr. Hartl, one of the outstanding physicians that helped save his life during his harrowing battle with Osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, gave him the fantastic news that his current tests are cancer free. The positive results came at the end of a grueling training camp to prepare him for a middleweight showdown with Keenan Collins on the undercard of the Danny Garcia-Zab Judah contest on April 27.
"I've pushed myself harder this training camp than I have for any other fight since making my comeback," Jacobs said. "Now with this behind me, I can get ready for April 27 with no problem whatsoever."
Despite their intense training schedule, Jacobs and his team took a break for a celebratory evening late in his camp to attend the Boxing Writers of America Association ceremony where he received the Bill Crawford award for courage in overcoming adversity. The event offered Jacobs and his friends and family a chance to celebrate his amazing road back to the boxing ring.
Jacobs' upcoming middleweight match-up with Collins is his second at the beautiful Barclays Center, and his third straight in the New York area. He returned triumphantly to the ring in his hometown of Brooklyn at the Barclays Center on October 20, 2012 after an 18-month absence due to his life-threatening cancer diagnosis and added a second victory at boxing mecca, Madison Square Garden in December.
Outside the ring, Jacobs has been juggling his responsibilities as a cancer advocate and his role as a father to son, Nathaniel. He launched his own philanthropic organization, the Get in the Ring Foundation, in January to focus on three issues close to his heart. The foundation's mission is to knockout cancer, childhood obesity and bullying, and more information on the Get in the Ring foundation can be found at www.getinthering.net.

"I'm the kind of fighter that knows how to adapt. I can adapt to my opponent's style anytime.
"On Saturday, expect to see two champions fighting with everything they have. I'll be fighting with everything I've got.
"Knockouts are unpredictable. I can't say that I'm going to knock Trout out, but I also can't say I won't.
"I'm always trying to better myself. I've been training very hard, and God willing, I'll come out victorious on Saturday. I'll show my fans what I'm made of.
"This fight is a great test for me, but it's a difficult one. Trout is a complicated fighter with a complicated style, but I like challenges. I enjoy challenges and that's why I've accepted this fight, because it's a big challenge.
"I feel good. I feel as good as I've ever felt. I'm ready.
"I feel the adrenaline. I'm eager to walk into the ring and hear that bell."
AUSTIN TROUT, WBA Super Welterweight World Champion
"I want to thank Canelo Alvarez for being a hungry fighter, making his demands known and putting his foot down to make this happen. I'm a hungry fighter and I want to fight the best.
"I'm not worried about the officials or the judging. I'm not worried about being in a hostile territory. All I can worry about is the opponent that I have in the ring.
"We've worked hard in this camp because we know who we're going up against. It's not going to be a walk in the park, but we never asked for easy. We want these challenges to prove our worth to the boxing world and that I'm the best 154-pound champion. On Saturday, we're going to let our fists do the talking and I have no doubt that my hand will be raised.
"It's all about the experience. He may have more fights, but I feel like I have more experience than he does between my amateur career and the opponents that I've faced. My last fights, aside from Miguel Cotto, everybody has been bigger. I've fought some middleweights and super middleweights.
"This is something that I've been dreaming about, literally, for the last two months. I wake myself up boxing him, throwing punches and what not. I'm a very visual person so it's been something that I've been visualizing and now we get to see it come to real life. I believe it's going to play out the way I've been seeing it in my head.
"Trout Nation is a lot bigger than they [Team Canelo] thought. We have a lot of fans that are here and excited about me fighting in San Antonio. The love is very heartfelt and I'm just soaking it all in.
"I'm expecting to see a win in my favor. I'm expecting to see a good fight, I'm expecting nothing but the best from Canelo. We're just excited to go in there and get this WBC title that we've been looking for.
"He's never fought anybody my size. The fighters he's faced have been welterweights and even junior welterweights. He's done what he's supposed to do with everyone that they've put in front of him, so I give credit to him for that, but, at the same time, I'm not cut from the same cloth as those guys."
OMAR FIGUEROA JR., Top Lightweight Contender
"This is a great fight card. I think the main event will be the best fight of 2013. I'm as excited for the main event as I am for my own fight. I'm not going to say I'm going to win my fight, I'm not going to say I'm going to lose my fight, the only thing I can promise is that I'm going to fight with the heart and the passion that I always fight with, and hopefully, we come out on top.
"I don't think he [Abner Cotto] will be the toughest opponent I've faced. I think Michael Perez was the most formidable opponent I've had and we all know how I came out in that one. We're hoping for the same result in this one.
"Being able to fight in front of this many fans is an honor, but being able to do it in your own home state is a blessing.
"We worked hard for this fight and it's hard to believe it happened. I used to be in that back row [on the dais] and now I'm sitting in the front with the champions. It's just a dream come true.
"I'm looking forward to a good fight. I want the best for the fans. They're what make this sport happen, so I just want to give them my best."
ABNER COTTO, WBC FECARBOX Lightweight Champion
"I can tell you that I'm ready for this fight. This is biggest fight of my career.
"We know our opponent Omar Figueroa Jr. very well. We know that he's a very strong fighter, but I'm ready for this fight and will bring the victory home to Puerto Rico.
"We love challenges and Saturday is going to be a prime example.
"I want to thank my team, all the fans that bought tickets and everyone watching on television. It's going to be a great fight."
JERMALL CHARLO, Top Super Welterweight Prospect
"Saturday is going to be crazy with 40 thousand people in the stands. I'm part of the future of boxing. Everyone needs to tune in."
JULIAN WILLIAMS, Top Middleweight Prospect
"I'm really excited to be on this card. It's a blessing. I want to fight one of these guys someday [pointing to Canelo and Trout].
TERRELL GAUSHA, 2012 United States Olympian
"I'm blessed to have the opportunity be on this big stage around so many great fighters. I want to put on a great performance.
"One day I'm going to be sitting in one of these front seats [pointing to Canelo and Trout]."
RAUL MARTINEZ, Top Bantamweight Prospect
"It's a great feeling to be in the presence of fighters like Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya and to be trained by Jesse James Leija.
"Being on a card with Canelo and Trout, both great champions, is what boxers dream of. It's so motivating for me. I'm in the gym everyday training hard and it's paying off.
"I want to welcome everyone to the Alamodome. Get there early and watch me get a great knockout."
OSCAR DE LA HOYA, President of Golden Boy Promotions
"Neither one of these guys [Alvarez or Trout] had to take this fight. This is great for the sport that we love dearly.
"Austin Trout is willing to take on any comers. It goes to show you Austin Trout's character. He isn't afraid to go into his opponents' backyards. He's a fighter that went into Miguel Cotto's backyard in New York City and had a tremendous victory against a tremendous champion.
"You don't see fights like the one you're going to see Saturday night [often]. Fighters are usually too afraid to take on the best in their division, but not these two.
"[On Omar Figueroa vs. Abner Cotto] This is the type of fight we look forward to...young, undefeated guys that aren't afraid to take a risk.
"If you're going to go out there and take a risk and fight hard, then there is no loser. Win or lose, great fighters will be back for more. This is what makes boxing the sport that it is. These fighters are going to come out and fight with their hearts.
"[On Canelo vs. Trout] When you put two young hungry fighters together, you get the best. The fans will be the winners because they know they will see a great fight.
"We call Canelo the total package, not only for his abilities, but because he wants to face the best.
"This is a testament to Canelo's confidence in his skills. We are truly excited to be working with Canelo."
JESSE JAMES LEIJA, Former World Champion and Texas Boxing Legend
"The history of the Alamodome and boxing goes back 20 years, since 1993 when Julio Cesar Chavez fought Pernell Whitaker. Don King had six months to get that fight together. We had about six weeks.
"We have 40 thousand people coming and that is because of these amazing fighters and the fight card on Saturday night.
"Mike Battah and I have been working very hard to make sure everyone comes out and acknowledges that we have two great fighters and one great night."
MIKE BATTAH, President of Leija and Battah Promotions
"We're building boxing again in Texas in a big way and it's happening this Saturday night.
"We're very happy, proud and honored that fans support us here. This is what boxing is about.
"I want fans to keep coming to the fights and I will work until I die to make this sport the best."
STEPHEN ESPINOZA, Executive Vice President & General Manager of SHOWTIME Sports
"Events like this are a pleasure to work because of the excitement and visibility they generates by themselves.
"I'd like to thank Leijah and Battah Promotions. SHOWTIME has a long relationship with Jesse James Leija going back to some of his biggest fights and it's a pleasure to be working with you again. Most of all, I'd like to thank these two young superstars that we're going to see on Saturday night.
"Canelo Alvarez and Austin Trout are two of the biggest young stars in boxing today and they didn't have to fight each other. These are two champions at the prime of their careers and they deserve credit for taking a difficult fight.
"This is one of the most highly anticipated fights on SHOWTIME since the days of Mike Tyson. I can't tell you how much attention, how many calls, how many ticket requests I've received. Nothing else compares to it since the Mike Tyson's fights."
NICHOLAS LANGELLA, Alamodome General Manager
"Oscar De La Hoya is an institution here in San Antonio. The Alamodome is very excited to be bringing this highly coveted match-up to our city.
"San Antonio has long been a host to many championship events. Saturday night continues that long tradition. Welcome to San Antonio. We are going to have a great time on Saturday night."
JOSE "CHEPO" REYNOSO, Canelo's Manager
"At this time, there's not much to say. I don't have many words. All I can say is that on Saturday, Canelo will come out victorious and we'll be dedicating this win to Rigoberto [Canelo's brother]."
EDDY REYNOSO, Canelo's Trainer
"We have a our work cut out for us as always. We're very focused on our work. We're ready for battle.
"A champion that is at this level made it here because of a lot of hard work and dedication.
"We've worked really hard to show that Canelo is the best 154-pound fighter in the world and that he's ready for the fight."
BOB SPAGNOLA, Trout's Manager
"I just want to give thanks to Greg Cohen and Al Haymon. I want to thank Austin Trout and his trainer Louie Burke, who I include in Austin's small circle of family.
"We've traveled all around the world trying to find opponents for Austin. It's a tough business, but we're here now."

"I haven't been traveling much because I've had some health problems, but I had to come to this fight.
"Canelo Alvarez is the number one champion in the world and the biggest Mexican superstar."
