Can sombody shed some light? the picture still seems too foggy.Guerrero just recently retained al haymon as advisor. Now Guerrero is fighting in a golden boy card? How much weight does haymon really have without Oscar de la Hoya? where and what Is Richard Schaefer doing? If Schaefer and haymon are planning a coup,it gotta be in heat of the hour!!, De La hoya will Re-group and naturally fight back. still too foggy of a picture.

brownsugar says:

Al Haymon never abandoned GB... Richard Schaefer did. Al still needs a network and a liscenced promoter to air his fighters.... and GB needs a steady supply of fighters who the audience wants to see.
There has not been any reports of a problem between GB and Al Haymon... besides they both need each other. Its a mutually beneficial relationship.
If I'm not mistaken GB won the purse bid for the VLo vs Russell fight as well........
VLo is promoted by TR... Russell is managed by Haymon and promoted by GB.

oubobcat says:

Its still unclear exactly how this will play out.

This card was put together before the official split and has Schaefer's fingerprints still on it (the V-Lo-Russell fight was a purse bid mind you won mandated by the sanctioning and won by GB).

On the pre-fight conference call this week, Oscar and Guerrero were asked a similar question. The response "No comment."

Interesting, the Canelo-Lara card was put together solely by Oscar and his trusted people (not Schaefer) and I don't believe there are any Haymon fighters on that undercard.

That said, Haymon was able to angle to get Chad Dawson on the Guerrero-Kamegai card and on the Sho Extreme portion of the telecast.

So its very tough to tell at the moment how it will all play out in the near term and long term. I think BSug is right though and at least in the short term Haymon needs GB and GB needs Haymon so they have to be doing something together.

Lara is an Al Haymon fighter. Along with Santa Cruz, Mares, and 55 others. There is a list on the Wiki under development.

The Canelo-Lara fight was made when Schaefer was still with GB and one of Oscar's many beefs with Schaefer. Oscar and his advisers put the undercard together.

Mares has been with Espinoza boxing for awhile. But he has indicated he may be moving on from them and has stated recently his contract with them has expired. There are rumors that he will sign with Haymon but Mares recently stated no documentation has been signed with Haymon. Mares is a Golden Boy fighter though and one of the few bigger names that had no affiliation with Haymon up to this time.

Oubocat, I'm pretty sure Oscar and Gomez put this card together, lara had made up his mind with shaefer/Haymon or without! he was fighting Canelo. I'm pretty sure Schaefer was irrelevant , Gomez was trying to Have Peterson fight herrera in the undercard, as far as I know peterson is a Haymon fighter? There is some communication with Haymon since Richard abandon ship.

riverside says:

During the mayweather press conference somebody asked Richard Shaefer about canelo. Schaefer reponded " talk to Oscar".

You are correct OBC Haymon doesnt officially have Mares.... Just Lara.
It'll be nice when this is sorted out.

Haymon is in so deep that neither TR or GB can totally work around him.

Hopefully these transactions are transparent and smooth so the fans and fighters under contract dont have to hold their breath every time a fight between GB and or TR is announced.

Oscar and Gomez did put this card together. That is why the GBP imprint is on the undercard.

Canelo is by far the biggest fighter under the GBP banner. Oscar was upset that Schaefer green lighted the Lara match. Oscar saw it as a high risk low reward fight and thought Schaefer was trying to undermine is company by putting their biggest asset in such a dangerous fight with an opponent not well known outside the boxing community.

Like BSug mentioned and I agree, GBP and Haymon will have to do some sort of business though at least for the near term. It is out of necessity for both. Haymon's fighters need a promotional banner to fight under and Haymon is de facto banned from HBO at the moment. Haymon has a lot of fighters though and not all tied to Golden Boy. Golden Boy still has the Showtime dates it appears and will need fighters and opponents. Thus, the two have to work together in some aspect for the near term. How it play out long term we have to wait and see.

Its going to be interesting how this plays out. Right now, its anybody's guess. But yeah I do hope that whatever the transition is it is smooth and transparent.
