Demetrius Andrade Seeks Mayweather Fight

DemetriusAndrade a222bATLANTA (February 12, 2014) - Undefeated World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior middleweight champion Demetrius "Boo Boo" Andrade (20-0, 13 KOs) is shooting for the stars, better make that, The Star.

Not only does Andrade plan to succeed Floyd "Money" Mayweather, Jr. as boxing's pound-for-pound champion and biggest draw, the slick southpaw hopes to fight Mayweather prior to "Money" closing his boxing bank, so to speak.

Andrade, a native of Providence who now lives in Atlanta, defeated previously unbeaten 2004 U.S. Olympian Vanes "Nightmare" Martirosyan (33-1-1, 21 KOs) by 12-round decision for the vacant WBO title last November on HBO. The 25-year-old is now required to make his first title defense, likely in April according to Andrade, against WBO No. 1-rated mandatory challenger Brian "The Lion" Rose (25-1-1, 7 KOs).

The 36-year-old Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) will face either Amir Khan or Marcus Maidana on May 3 in Las Vegas on Showtime PPV. The nine-time, five-division world champion Mayweather is the reigning WBC and WBA Super junior middleweight title holder.

"I'm getting ready to take over boxing after Mayweather retires," Andrade said. "I want to match my natural, God-given skills against his before he hangs up his gloves for good. Let's unify the titles, Floyd. We can do it here in Atlanta, Las Vegas or New York. You pick the place, just don't leave me hanging and retire without fighting me. This is my time!"

Mayweather announced that he will fight only four more times, including May 3, and then retire next year from the ring as a boxer. Andrade needs to quickly position himself as a viable opponent and rising star in order to be seriously considered as one of only three more Mayweather opponents. A match-up between the two could be like the passing of the torch, assuming Andrade continues to develop in the ring and marketable product.

Andrade has been described by some as a younger, taller (by 5 inches), southpaw version of Mayweather because of their similar styles and tremendous boxing skills. Their similarities don't end there, however. They are both African-Americans who flash endearing smiles, in addition to being former US Olympians (Mayweather - 1996 Olympic bronze medalist, Andrade - 2008), multiple National Golden Gloves champions (Mayweather 1993, 1994 & 1996, Andrade 2006 & 2007), and two of the few undefeated professional prizefighters. Andrade was also the 2007 World Championships gold medalist.

Is Mayweather vs. Andrade in the stars? Stay tuned, boxing fans.

Everybodee and dey momma are seeking a dance with Money May. One of Money May's uncles will probably tell you that it is because that person is in tax troubles. WTF! OMFG! Hehehehe! Uncle Jeff now claims that Da Manny is $68mil in the red. And he would know that. It must because of Da Manny buying all of that A-side meth.

Fam May got all the pull. And I ain't hatin' 'em! They know prizefighting and not an iota pridefighting. Holla!

I've seen a few flashes of brilliance from Andradae.. And I've also seen him off balance throwing arm punches in a very awkward fashion(which is most of the time) gassing out...but struggling through it.... He gets by...... and has potential. But when is Andradae going to finally bloom? He should be asking to fight Rosado, Charlotte, Trout, and Lara. After we've seen him with those guys ....then we'll know how much he's worth.

Sad attempt for attention. No shot for him. Has not earned the shot. Weak record at this point. Fought bums for first 18 fights. knocked down and won a split in his last fight. At least 4 fights away from deserving shot. Being on Olympic team and an African American with a nice smile really doesn't cut it. Its always good to call out top guys but he has to beat a Thurman or elite guy at least once convincingly before you start calling for mayweather.

amayseng says:

Can I call out Floyd next?

I can get 8 wins in this year against sub par competition as well.

Would that get me a ppv payday with floyd?

sure I would come in at 168, but hell why not huh?

My point, I agree with Deep. no reason for him to be speaking about this 2 years too early, if ever...

Radam G says:

Hehehehehehehehehehehehe! A-seng has jacked the Roast's of the Roast's sneaky comedic wisecracks. Hahaha!

You have been straight-up wilding in 2014 with it, A-seng. Holla!

Lara whooped that *** before

Just like Andrade whooped Thurman's a$$ before. The amateur ranks are the amateur ranks and Andrade is now a professional, which is a tototally different ball game. A fight between him and Lara would be a high speed chess match. Don't sleep on this kid, he is very talented!

Yeah and Andrade would whoop Thurman again now. From what I've seen and head, he's good. But guys like Andrade don't trouble Lara one bit.

We just saw how he deals with a skillful African American southpaw with a nice smile (come on, Andrade's cousin who's in college...). Andrade and Trout are basically the same fighter, except I would favor Trout over Andrade.

Lara actually sorta called Andrade out the other day, too! (Or his manager did.) I doubt Andrade wants any of that #CubanClinic though.

LOL exactly! Andrade's an audacious jabroni. Like my man Rock says, "know your role and shut your mouth."

SouthPawFlo says:

The kid definitely has skills he's at least 4-5 fights away from hitting the Money May Jackpot, if he has a busy and impressive 2014, I can see him being a star in 2015...

It's a lot of fights at 154 so he shouldn't have a problem getting names.

Tell him to come back in a year and ask to approach the PPV King...

Radam G says:

SouthPaul, where you at? Holla!

brownsugar says:

SouthPaul gets around... He's Probly partying at the Mayweather Mansion right now. I hear mondays are Karaoke Nite.

I'd pick Charlo over Andradae... But not by much...154 is finally a loaded division these days.(sorry Ishe Smith, Molina, and Bundrage)
