Oscar Says Broner "Is Still The Broner People Believed In"

Adrien-Broner-de la hoya

Adrien Broner gloves up on Saturday, Sept. 6 on a Cincinnati homecoming show, and he'll meet Emmanuel Taylor, who is known to those who he is known to for losing to Chris Algieri. It isn't where Broner was supposed to be in the second half of 2014. The brash talker was being groomed to be a PPV player last year, until Marcos Maidana showed that his punch avoidance and chin quality weren't A grade, not on that December night anyway.

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya was asked about that Broner-Taylor bout and he promised, at the end of the Hopkins-Kovalev presser at the Waldorf in NYC, that Broner (age 25; 28-1, with 25 KOs) wasn't in easy. "Taylor is not a walk in the park," Oscar said.

I questioned the promoter directly, asking him if he thought Broner hadn't, perhaps, been overhyped and that smart people, presumably smart people, had overestimated his skills. He shook his head, no. "He got derailed by Marcos Maidana, now he has to put the wheels back on the train. He's still the Broner who people believed in."

Mebbe so…Time will tell. And how about you tell me, Forum Faithful, your take. Is Broner poised to hit the reset button, beat Taylor, and get back on a track which had people describing him a potential person to fill the hole after Floyd Mayweather steps off stage...or has he bumped his head on his ceiling of achievement?

The Commish says:

Adrien Broner has more than bumped his head on the ceiling of achievement. He has gotten punched in the face over and over by Marcos Maidana. That's a fight which brought a smile to so many of our faces. Unfortunately, Emanuel Taylor isn't the guy who is going to make us smile like that again.

More than likely, Broner is going to have his way with Taylor. Then, there will be a post-fight interview by a disgusted-lookking Jim Grey, and we'll sit back and listen to the wisdom of Broner. As an added attraction, we'll get to see his father bbrushing Adrien's hair. Can't wait!

I'm looking forward to Saturday's root canal when I go to my dentist more than I am looking forward to hearing Broner speeak after his victory, after what Oscar said would not be "a walk in the park."

"Yo Adrien!"

I think there could have been a more appropriate title for this article

I believe Broner will show a degree of maturity after his clocks E-T. Hehehe! Call home E-T! That is after you wake from the deep nap that the "Problem" is going to put you in. Holla,

I always thought Broner was more a hype job and well built up fighter (by Haymon) than anything else. Yes he has talent but was never going to be a superstar as many in the sport predicted.

The first time I saw him fight was against Ponce De Leon. I thought De Leon handed it to Broner that night and Broner received a gift to say the least with the decision.

Then Haymon scaled him way back while still getting Broner valuable HBO dates. Even found a way to maneuver Broner to a few belts along the way.

But there were always limitations despite the obvious talent. He relies too much on his athletic ability and not enough on technique. For example, he doesn't use the jab nearly enough but instead generally attempts to walk his opponents down. That may work against Vincente Excobedo and Gavin Rees bu not against Marcos Maidana.

Broner also fights in spots way too much. There are way too many dead spots in his fights and that even allowed fighters like Rees to have moments and win rounds despite being obviously overmatched.

I think Broner gets by Taylor. He gets by the C level and B- to B level fighters. But the better fighters and those in the top 10 he will always struggle. Look at the names on his resume on and where they were ranked when he fought them. With the exception of Ponce De Leon and Demarco, none were really considered top 10 (Malignaggi was borderline at the time and gave Broner a tough tussle).

Ponce beat Broner and Paulie drew with him.

Broner is all flash and no substance and Chino exposed that.

With Broner's **** poor attitude, irresponsibility between camps, poor health and choices he will never be above a B fighter. He will never be a top dog or elite.

I mean does anyone even think he beats the following:

Pac- Good God no
D. Garcia---nope
Lucas Mattysse
Kell Brook
S Porter
Terrence Crawford-even if he came up to 140
Bradley
jmm
Thurman
The ghost
Herrera
Prov

I think all these guys above beat AB. no joke

We wouldn't even be talking about Broner , if Floyd and Haymon hadn't paved the way for the guy. Ponce beat him, Paulie beat him, MM ran him out of the ring crying, matched against easy competition in his last three fights that no executive would green light unless Floyd and tsAH asked pretty please with a cherry on top.
Since Broner is a 3 weight champion , and the self proclaimed Lil Mayweather, if he should he get by this opponent which has been brought in, then why not fight a champion in Danny Garcia or Lucas M? One thing you have to give Floyd is he took on the best fighters when coming up, he wasn't handed Easy fights like Broner . Floyd can pick and choose now but on the way up he earned his spot by taking on the top guys. Which top guys did Broner beat to earn the right to brag like he does?
