GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS RENEWS RELATIONSHIP WITH INTERNATIONAL HALL OF FAME MATCHMAKER DON CHARGIN

LOS ANGELES (July 25) - A member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and one of the most respected figures in the sport, legendary matchmaker Don Chargin is back with the Golden Boy Promotions team, which is pleased to announce that it has retained his services and brought him back home.

"Don is not just a legend of boxing, but a good friend and loyal advisor for years," said Oscar De La Hoya, President and founder of Golden Boy Promotions. "I'm excited to have him on board again, and together we're going to deliver the best fights to the fans for years to come."

"I'm happy to be back with Golden Boy Promotions, and hearing Oscar's commitment to putting on great fights and signing top-notch talent has me excited to get back to work here," said Chargin. " Oscar's always been a good friend, and he puts the fans first, which is something all promoters should aspire to."

Chargin, who first began promoting at the age of 23, has deep roots in boxing. For over 60 years, he has delivered quality match ups and looks to continue the same tradition of excellence at Golden Boy Promotions

ArneK. says:

The word "legendary" is over-used, but not in Chargin's case. He's 86 years old now, which makes him older than fellow octogenarians Arum and King, and apparently still very sharp. I can't imagine that any promoter ever staged as many fan-friendly fights.

Certainly one of three or four names I would have considered. Should have announced it sooner. All in all a great choice.

The Shadow says:

Should be good! Hope he has a good run. This man knows his stuff, doesn't he? Eric Gomez is already a good matchmaker. Now it should be even better.

The Commish says:

Great move by GBP.

I saw Oscar and Don in deep, one-on-one conversation a few times at the recent IBHOF weekend. In retrospect, I should have realized that was probably the start of Chargin's hiring, although the two have been longtime friends.

Few know as much about the sport and styles as does Chargin, and even less are as respected.

The best to both of them.

Very good move by Golden Boy, Chagrin knows this sport inside and out and is a brilliant matchmaker. When Chagrin's name is tied to a show, you know there will be some quality bouts to be seen.
