ArneK. says:

I have no clue if Frank Galarza can fight a lick. The fact that he won the vacant New York State light middleweight title and then captured the interim WBC Latino light middleweight title tells me absolutely nothing.

I know that boxing promoters have forever contrived phony titles to dress up their promotions, but nowadays I would argue that it's counterproductive. It merely calls attention to the fact there there are too many dubious title-holders.

The venue is interesting. It begs the question of where boxing in the U.S. would be today if not for gambling joints. Depending on the source, the Resorts World racino has anywhere from 2200 to more than 5000 video lottery terminals -- slot machines in the vernacular.

I find it so ironic that Resorts World is only about 10 miles from LaGuardia Airport, named for a zealous anti-gambling crusader. The most iconic image of the "Little Flower" is that of the fellow on the barge fiendishly attacking a pile of slot machines with a sledgehammer.

Times change.
