Conspicuous Consumption, Mayweather Style: All Access Ep. 1 Recap

Floyd Mayweather talked about money, and his fame, and his legacy on the first installment of Showtime's "All Access" show, likely growing the base of haters who will tune in to see him get his butt kicked up another 5%.

Marcos Maidana is Floyd's latest foil, and we shall see if he can fare better than other foes on May 3, in Las Vegas.

Floyd still has a bunch of fancy cars and likes to flash wads of money to the camera. He said he has the best in property and has canoodled with the best women, and his man Leonard Ellerbe says he's having a grand all time.

A car dealer says Floyd has bought 88 cars from him, but he's not done yet, it looks like. He sometimes has a car for a week, then snaps up a new one, and rarely goes over 2,500 miles on the odometer. The legions eager to see him lose probably increased as he flaunted that conspicuous consumption, and you might be able to cast now ex fiancee Miss Jackson into the hater pile; we hear that their 4 year engagement is no more. Floyd says that she got too big for her britches, and didn't know her place. She used to have piles of booty, but that has been cleared out, the cameras show. She is acting in LA, he says. "We still friends," he says, but have just outgrown each other. I occasionally see they are sparring on Instagram and such, so I can't testify how friendly they actually are.

Floyd sits with three ladies and tells them guys need to wear tight briefs so their testes don't sag, down the line. He then brags in his bedroom, about how many babes he's frolicked with.

Next, we see Floyd at a commercial shoot. He says he can't overlook Maidana, and Ellerbe says Maidana is the hottest guy out there.

Floyd says he's a "six grade dropout but I'm no fool," that he can grow his money. He then says he doesn't know Maidanas' name.

In Argentina, Maidana, with his fiancee, we see the Maidana crew in action. He hits a soccer match and the fans chant "Chino!" He says he's a fighter, and doesn't even care if the fights are on TV. He does care about the birth of that baby, though. The lil lady will be named Emilia.

Trainer Robert Garcia isn't present and when the baby is born, Maidana will come to the US.

We then see footage of Maidana vs. Broner, and note that Broner and Floyd share some traits. What about fates? The left hook that dropped Broner looked sharp and strong, and then we see another left hook dropping AB. Floyd said he's upset what Maidana did to Broner. "Broner got outhustled by Maidana," says Floyd, announcing that too much partying is detrimental to a fighter.

He tells kids at the gym not to look at any YouTube but of him. We see a six year old and an eight year old spar. Not sure how you feel about that, I don't dig it...But the kids seem to like it, and both get a hundred dollar bill from "Money."

Maidana, we hear, started boxing at age 15, not like Floyd, who was battling in diapers. Baby Emilia is then born. Maidana was there for the birth, he says. But he must get into fight shape, and must fully focus on beating Floyd. He says his son will attend the fight, with a grandma. The missus says she won't go to see his fights.

Next, we see Floyds' kids do a sleepover in Vegas. He puts them to bed, and heads out on the town, engages in some retail therapy. He says he's glad God has chosen him to be...him.

Maidana, to the press in Argentina, says he knows he can KO with one punch.
"I don't think he can retire undefeated," Maidana says.

Floyd ends by saying that he's beating guys young enough to be his sons.

Thoughts, friends?

Not impressed with all access. Holla!

Same ol' same ol'

except this was worse.

As a grown man myself I don't need to hear or see another man in his bedroom, kneeling on his bed talking

about " if these walls could talk" and how he is awesome at banging girls....Really All Access? Really Floyd?

as if Floyd is the only man to bang girls... wow. no charisma at all. none.

Wow Floyd, you have 4 kids from a bunch of different women. That is not a good thing you dummy.

That is the most tired and boring BS there is for reality tv.

I won't be wasting 30 minutes on the next one.

Also there is nothing intriguing about Floyd buying and selling cars in a week. That is stupid, the loss he takes for each is dumb. I don't care how much money you have.

Am I suppose to be impressed he makes poor decisions?

Floyd is a great fighter but for being a multimillionaire his personality is boring as ****.

How many times are they gonna show he shuts a store down to buy baseball flat hats a teenager would wear not a 37 year old?

This fight wont do 800,000 buys. No one is interested in the sparring session to come.

Carmine Cas says:

The glorification of American consumerism, not buying it!

Same ol sh*t with Floyd, this superficial bs has to go.

There's more to life then having the nicest car and throwing 100s around like nothing.

Floyd should set a better example.

The Commish says:

These All Access--as are the 24/7 shows on HBO--are geared to the boxing consumer sitting on the fence about buying the fight. If you clearly are not going to buy it, All Access won't change your mind. But if you are, "Hmm, I just might buy it, I'm not sure," then All Access will push you in the direction of buying the May 3 event.

Me? I buy everything.

That includess May 3. How great would it be to watch Maidana pull off a major upset?

Commish I am all about hype and adding intrigue to an upcoming event, but Floyd's shtick is just tired and boring.

I mean come on, talking about banging girls on his bed, ugh, so tired and boring. Is that suppose to be impressive or entertaining.

If this is all they have to rely on then something is wrong. it is the same ol thing for years now.

floyd buys cars
floyd buys clothes

this was on the level of the Kardashians, who i consider some of the most despicable human beings on this planet.

ArneK. says:

The great baseball pitcher Sandy Koufax, who retired at age 30, said that when he retired he had enough money to last the rest of his life. Later on he would say that he discovered this was only true if he stopped spending. Is it crazy to think that Mayweather will lose most of his big-ticket possessions some day, akin to Evander Holyfield and others? It's not crazy at all.

Skibbz says:

Watched episode 1, will trust you guys to decide episode 2 is worth the time.

SouthPawFlo says:

Sometimes I think that Floyd's Antics are meant to "**** people off," but here's the truth that all access doesn't even need to show me...

I know he's gonna come in tip top shape and I know he's gonna be laser focused on not letting Chino take his head off....

He's been a world champion since the 90's and that alone is impressive to me...

I liked the Back story about Chino being there for his baby to be born....

Floyd has played the bad guy/a$$hol3 role perfectly!! He said it awhile back if he can get people to spend for PPV just to see him lose, its money coming in from both sides. I watched episode 1 this morning, and it it seems like he has dialed in the money money BS this time.

Yup! That whole "Floyd has matured since prison, Foyd is mellow since prison" doesn't move the needle. People get outraged at this stuff; Ross and Floyd know this.

Compare it to the most recent 24/7. Completely boring and without intrigue.

This here at least annoys people who don't like him and impresses those that do. Keep in mind, he gets his fan base of supporters from the "urban" crowd, the same crowd hip hop music appeals to.

Like we hear in hip hop, this stuff resonates for whatever reason; the message is conspicuously similar. CC, yes, he could set a better example.

But Mayweather Promotions' corporate mission is to sell fights. He has a nonprofit organization for all the positive stuff.

Like Randy said, this may cause some on-the-fence buyers to make that leap into consumption. (I doubt interviewing journalists accomplish that.)

They've tried that humble Floyd stuff. Didn't connect. So maybe it's better to go back to what brought you to the dance.

I'm cool with it.

aljamieson says:

I'm not sure who Mayweather thinks that appeals to. In any other context, he'd look like just any other asshole one percenter.

I am 35 and have seen 399959558 rappers talk about banging girls in their beds.

I am 35, I am not impressed by this, each man has their own conquests so to speak.

secondly, Floyd's personality sucks. some people just cant tell stories or carry humor and floyd cant do either

in fact he is terrible at them both.

floyd is a great boxer, hard worker, but he is NOT funny or entertaining.

Overall, the access shows are exhausted.

I liked the 24/7 with Pavlik and Taylor....that was a good episode....not this money propaganda 7 years running. give me a fucking break already.

Sadly, the market responds favorably to this.

Wow! What a stereotype on "any other ($o labeled) a$$hole one percenter."

How many one percenters do you know, except through the dramatized fantasy of television? Holla!

The Good Doctor says:

Very true. The real sad part is that most one percenters are just normal people with nice bank accounts. I have been fortunate enough to meet quite a few of them and by in large they are just everyday people. Typically the only stark difference between a one percenter and the average joe is what they do with their time. The other thing is to, the average salary of the real one percenters is a little over 700K. Most people in those circumstances cannot afford to act like Floyd.

brownbomber says:

It's a gimmick to sell fights!!!!! You're not on the inside!!! I hide in plain sight like radam!!!!!!! C'mon man

brownbomber says:

Thank you Shadow. You are on the inside as well I presume

deepwater2 says:

Remember the good ole days when boxing skills and knockouts sold fights? Que "The Times They are Changing" song. Times may change but skills will always remain timeless. The other stuff is just noise. Focus on the signal, not the noise.

The Shadow says:

Lol do you really? Are you in Vegas? I'm not an insider per se, I just go to the gyms and ask questions if I'm in town for big fights rather than just sit around.

But yes, it's a gimmick for sure. These shows follow a script.
