Paulie Likes Mayweather To Beat Canelo, But...

BPQUeR3CcAAr3JI.jpg largePaul Malignaggi showed on June 22 that he is not yet at a place where he will be relegated, kicked to the curb of the analyst chair, as opposed to center ring. He lost a split decision to Adrien Broner, but threw more than the "winner" and many folks had him winning the bout, even if two of three judges didn't. The fighter is now in wait-and-see mode, and is concentrating on analyst duties for Showtime. I asked him to assess the Sept. 14 showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez.

"You gotta favor Floyd but Canelo is coming, he's hungry and he is the bigger man. I'm curious to see what tactics he uses to fight the smaller man. Floyd is the more talented man but he's the smaller man. I'm curious to see if Canelo can take advantage of that size advantage. His punching power is such that if he can land enough, and get Floyd's respect and intimidate him, it could make things interesting. But again, it's hard to go against Mayweather."

Does Canelo even do better than Robert Guerrero did, I wondered, because to me, that's not a given. "It's hard to say, we don't know about Canelo's ability to adjust yet because we haven't seen him in a situation where he's had to adjust," said Malignaggi (in photo, on right, talking to writer, in Evi Avrahami pic). "We hope, because of Canelo's reputation, he's better than Guerrero, but we haven't seen a situation where Canelo has been in super tough. The Trout fight he had that a little bit, it was close, but it was always him up a couple points, all the way. I'm curious to see how Canelo would react if he is behind."

Paulie knows! Money May all DAY! With the red-headed hype all will go the Money May's way. Holla!

amayseng says:

Camelot doesn't have the footwork to beat Floyd.

His only option is to go Frazier and eat shots trying to land a left hook ala Ali.

Carmine Cas says:

Lol Camelot, Paulie has always been pro Mayweather. Canelo def has to improve his footwork and balance to be competitive. However I am not totally writing off the ginger mexican, he just might have a shot. We shall see

Hey Paulie! Piezon how was the pizza?

Real Talk says:

Canelo is ready and a live dog in the fight and can rumble, more than just hype. Somebody drinking the hatorade cause Canelo is in the light cause they're favorite fighter ate mexican dynamite LOL!!!!! It's aight don't cry in your beer, maybe Pacman will be in the mix next year LOL. Dueces

brownsugar says:

I can smell an upset coming....Canelo is streamlined tank. Floyd is a jeep with a 50 cal machine gun attatched. The tank usually wins. If Floyd cannot take another trip back to his youth in the same time machine he used against Guerrero..... he loses badly.

Radam G says:

The red-headed hype is going get played like a piano and kayoed. Drinking anything will not hurt or help him. Those Money May mitts will have him in deep kimchee. For Money, it will be one easy victory. Holla!

Radam G says:

I'm glad that Nevada doesn't have that "Stand your ground law" bulljive. Because Money May is going to be conducting a mayhem-@$$ spanking on the red-headed hype. And we don't need this muthasucka pulling out a gun in that squared jungle and claiming that he feared for his life. Hehehe! And I ain't being morbid. We are dealing with "The threatre of the unexpected."

I expect for several fighters to wear their hoodies into da squared jungle in the coming weeks. Holla!

[COLOR="#B22222">... lol... my buddy felt bad cuz he got punked out in a bet.. he picked Canelo for $500... the guy raised him to $2000... when I saw him, I said" Canelo wins going away"there is no way when a blown up middleweight beats a solid true middleweight... that's why people like me take money from people like u guys... FACTS. young superstar beats old superstar... May isn't what he once was.. and hasn't fought GREAT in sometime... Canelo hasn't even peaked yet... he called the guy back... the guy pussied out...

brownsugar says:

I hate to admit it bigstinky but I think people are going to be shocked. This is going to be much tougher for May than folks expect. The only unknown is how much more can Floyd tap from the well. The energy coming from the ring when the first bell rings will off the Richter scale. Floyd says Cotto is tougher competition than Canelo, .....can he truly believe that?

brownbomber says:

@radam

If the fight is super close..hypothetically speaking..could you see big money o and the powers at gbp robbing money may with a decision for my primo canelo?

Sounds to me like you believe in the adage "Boxing is the only sport where you get really old in one night". I think Mayweather has enough left in the tank for this and maybe two more formidable opponents if he fights a little more frequently than he is accustomed to.

I am on the other side and think Mayweather will pot shot and dance his way to another victory somewhere in that 8-4, 9-3 range. I am curious though B-Sug, what is about Canelo that you see that gives him a formidable chance? Outside of the lucky power shot, which is something just about everybody has walking in the ring, what attributes do you give to Canelo that make this interesting?

Radam G says:

@Brownbomber. No WAY that Big Money O, GBP or the STANK powers that be of Sin City rob Money May. Canelo is more likely to get victimized with a robbery. It is like back in the day, when I was still lap pi$$ing on da stars, talking heads and anybody who put baby Radam on his/her lap, Ken Norton was not going to get a win over GOAT Ali after the "Rumble in the Jungle" and "The Thrilla in Manila." Holla at that GOAT Ali-Norton's 1976 bout on Youtube. Norton won at least 10 rounds of the 15 ones, but it was not time for another GOAT Ali's defeat.

In the seedy hurt bitnezz of boxing, timing is everything because of the duration of MAKING DA BIG MOOLAH. The red-headed hype is catching an unbeatable Money May in every way -- financially, physically and politically -- possible. Canelo only way of winning is a Marquez-Paquiao type of KO. And that ain't happening. Money May will not chance it in a million years plus infinity Holla!

bigstinkybug says:

[COLOR="#B22222">*I don't think Canelo will win... I know he'll win. I hear all this none sense that May will pot shot all night...lol, this isn't some slug he's fighting... does May have enough"..lol, May never had enough for a ledgit middleweight... Canelo will brutalize him. I'd even go so far as to say Trout would beat May... That's how good I believe Trout is and how awesome the win for Caneleo was against him. I hear Canelo has a punchers chance... lol, Chavez has a punchers chance...Canelo has speed, power , talent and youth... "no where run now babe...NOWHERE TO HIDE"

man..ur a boxing fan..maybe a fighter... u know what happens when a great Welterweight fights a great middle... the welters punches never hurt the middleweight... the middleweight usually wins going away...THEN we say, "he should've stayed at welterweight. NOW..let's look at this scenario... May isn't a great welterweight...he's a great light welter and below..that's just fact. vs the strongest middleweight in years who's chin is like granite. This guy is fast and throws in combinations... May tends to lay on the ropes and let u punch... Canelo will brutilize this mans body. ..lastly..the intangibles... people keep talking about Canelo's stamina issues.. what about May's? May has not looked good at the end of recent fights and honestly..he's fought mediocre opponents. Mays age vs Canelo's age... there's a reason why world records are broken by 22 yr ols...it's called PRIME... May would have to be in his prime vs a guy who hasn't reached his..for this fight lean toward May.. maybe. Last intangible... weight... before the peanut gallery tries to correct me by saying"he's a light middle weight"..etc,etc... I say"BS" Canelo is a solid middleweight and will come into the fight that night at about 170... hey, let's put Ward vs Mayweather? u know how ridiculous that sounds, right? well... fight night, Canelo will be a super middleweight at 170,like he always is... May will be a blown up 155 pounder... yes sir...

amayseng says:

A blown up 155 pounder?
May weighs in at 147 easily and walks around at 150 lbs.
that is a legit WW.
He actually sheds a few lbs to make 147.
He's always in shape and is a legit 147 pounder.
Floyd's legs and ability to exit from the pocket keep him safe at this late stage.
Even Hopkins was able to have the agility at 48 to maintain such safely from a 30 year old young fighter.
Canelo is a very very good fighter.
He is doing nothing but getting better but he has stamina issues and is now cutting an extra 2 lbs of muscle. Not water. Not fat.
Muscle.
That will be detrimental in the least.
By round 7 he will have been spent and then it's cruise control for Floyd.
Pot. Shot. Exit. Move. Repeat.

Radam G says:

We are dealing with the seedy business of boxing. All the money and the honey are rolling Money May's way. Canelo will not win even if he could. That it just life. It is full of strife. And like a cheating wife! And while you are doing da do, in your back it will stick you with a Knife.

Money will win by hook or crook. Realize that the BIG MONEY says this is the only outlook. And since he is at home in Sin City, the corrupted, cheating powers that be would even holla at a bit of home cooking. For Money May's next fight, they are already booking.

It is all about MONEY! Ain't ur [sic] d@mn funny! That is what is happening in this world of milk and honey. Holla!

[COLOR="#B22222">Just wondering, r u a fighter? I would think ur not..and im being a jerk...im just asking. when a fighter walks around at 160 pounds, and he's a gym rat, he's usually 10-12 pounds over his fighting weight. That's what im saying... sure, May walks around at 150..cuz he's really a 140 pounder ... he certainly isn't a middleweight. becuz he walks around at 150 pounds does not make him a welterweight! if I have to explain this to u guys again, ill have to charge u.

brownsugar says:

Hank Lundy (junior welter) weighed more than Floyd when he beat the African this Saturday. Rios weighed in at 155 when he fought at lightweight and most welterweights enter the ring at 160+ .
I think Canelo comes in at 153 and pays the fine.. he will be a solid 171 pounds on fight night...a solid counterpuncher an underestimated boxer...Canelo will be surprisingly dangerous. Floyd has the skill but sometimes all you need to be is the bigger dude. We'll see...it will take a masterpiece of boxing skill for Floyd to overcome the Cinnamin man.

amayseng says:

if canelo has any brains at all he would say F U floyd mayweather and come in at 154 lbs and not dehydrate, drain or even degrade his ability in the smallest of ways.

pay the fine, or allow dlh to pick it up, because if you win it will be worth the sacrifice for the money of a rematch of future ppv events.

just weigh in at 154, bullshit em and say you cut down as much as possible and if floyd wants to bail out of the fight then he will look like a coward and he will be

the one truly losing, not only a huge purse but another 6 months to set up another bout, train and fight... at his age he cant keep postponing bouts.....

time is money and time is running out for floyd with age.

if canelo says f it and weighs in at 154 i will buy this ppv no doubt

Radam G says:

There is a lot of optical illusions in this "Threatre of the unexpected."

Don't be surprised if the red-headed hype comes in at 154lbs, and Money May pays a fine. And Canelo says that he got revenge for what Money May did to Marquez -- later to get on dat syet and become Hulkquez -- and will also revenge the total whuppin' that Money May put on Marquez.

GBP and Showtime are pulling out all the gimmicks to get the largest amount PPVs ever in the USA. Canelo can come in at 200lbs and still will lose. Holla!

amayseng says:

I agree he still gets whooped even at 154. But it needs to be done for an even playing field and for Floyd's rep. He won't have any excuses after the fight.
