Dib and Gradovich Make Weight

BY The Sweet Science ON February 28, 2013

DiBellaLogo-no-websiteLedyard, CT (2/28/13) - Earlier tonight IBF Featherweight Champion Billy "The Kid" Dib (35-1-1NC, 21KO's) and undefeated Russian Challenger Evgeny Gradovich (15-0, 8KO's) both made weight for their championship bout tomorrow night at MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods. Both Dib and Gradovich looked to be in tremendous shape, with each fighter tipping the scales at 125 lbs.

Also, check out this video Q n A Michael Woods did with Dib at a prefight presser in NYC on Wednesday. Charlie Ota, a junior middle, was supposed to fight Brandon Baue, but his fight was scrapped because Baue couldn't make the trip. To learn a bit more about Ota, check out this video chat I had with the boxer on Wednesday.

The event tomorrow is promoted by 50 Cent's SMS Promotions and DiBella Entertainment and sponsored by SMS Audio. The championship bout will be televised live tomorrow night on ESPN's Friday Night Fights. Below are the complete weights for the entire card.

stormcentre says:

If Dib doesn't get this, he needs to have a good look at himself.

Unless of course Gradovich is the epitome of the term "Wildcard". I would love to know what Gradovich is getting paid, especially considering Dib's other opponent pulled out after hearing of his - before expenses -income being in the region of $20K.

Dib is slightly underrated IMO, but sometimes too easily overpowered. His style, whilst exhibiting significant differences from Ben, has similar strengths and weaknesses to another Aussie based fighter; Ben Rabah. Too many moving parts to keep everything synchronised all the time, particularly when under pressure and the hands are not protecting the cat's whiskas. And, as stated above, Dib can be, sometimes, a tad too easily overpowered.

Still, he spent some time with Mosely a few years back. So Shane has probably taught him a few tricks.

stormcentre says:

And with those comments (made before the Dib fight), it seems Gradovich now roughed up Dib and overpowered him.

Radam G says:

The threatre of the unexpected is always on duty. Holla!

stormcentre says:

Yep, it certainly seems that way for Dib, RadamG.
