Didn't happen. The 28 year-old Lopez cracked Ortiz with some filthy hooks and broke his jaw. Ortiz told the ref that he couldn't continue after the ninth, Lopez won upset of the year and Canelo continued a jinx meme. SouthPaul says:

Josesito Lopez was brought in to compete but not win, if we want to be honest about it, when he fought Victor Ortiz on June 23 in LA. Ortiz had a date to dance with Canelo Alvarez set up for September 15, so Ortiz just needed to get past the undersized welter Lopez (pictured above, roaring in exultation post-win).
Threatre of the unexpected was in full effect. Maybe in 2013, Canelo will get his jaw broken of upset by a believe-to-be softy. Holla!
