event 7995835Assault in the Ring is a documentary about the professional boxing match from June 16, 1983, between Billy Collins Jr. and Luis Resto. The fight ended in an upset decision victory for Resto, but it quickly was discovered that someone had tampered with his gloves. Collins, who was undefeated going into the fight and already enjoying a very promising career, never would fight again — killing himself eight months later as the result of driving off an embankment and crashing his car, less than one mile from his home in Antioch, Tenn. The subsequent investigation of the fight and trial led many to declare this fight the darkest day in the history of boxing. Resto and his trainer would serve three and a half years in prison and be banned from the sport for life. The film picks up the story 25 years later with Resto living in the basement of a gym in the Bronx.

Written, directed and produced by Men’s Club Director ERIC DRATH, Assault in the Ring was released in 2009. It received an Emmy Award in 2010 for Outstanding Documentary.

All Temple members are invited to join us for a special screening of the film. A light breakfast will be served at 9:30 AM. The movie will be shown at 10 AM and will be followed at 11:30 AM with lunch and a panel discussion. Panelists scheduled to appear include: Director Eric Drath; Luis Resto himself; Aaron Cohen, the film’s co-writer and a prolific sports writer for shows such as HBO’s 24/7; Mitch Abramson from the New York Daily News; and Steve Farhood, currently the commentator on Showtime’s ShoBox: The New Generation and previously an on-air analyst for ESPN, CNN, SportsChannel and USA Network.

The charge for this event is $25 for Men’s Club members, $30 for nonmembers. This should be a wonderful program for those interested in sports or investigative journalism. RSVP to the Men’s Club.

"Assault in the Ring" is major bullsh*tology of media manipulation, reality distortion and an induce myth of a sick crime that NYBC fudged up about. And to this DAY, it has not paid the love ones of BCJ one white quarter.

Eric Drath has made some mad money off this ___ _____ ____! He should develop a heart and donate some of that moola to the family of BCJ. Then again, maybe the NYBC should be put on trial for negligence and covering up the WHOLE TRUTH. Holla!
