The World Boxing Council is in Tijuana, Mexico from January 26th thru the 30th hosting their second annual convention dedicated to women's boxing.

The usual convention business is expected throughout the two days of sessions as promoters, judges, referees and other officials are gathering.

The week begins with a casual cocktail party and there is a gala black-tie dinner scheduled for Friday night.  Among the other activities will be awards and recognitions that are handed out by the WBC.  Lonnie Ali, the spouse of Muhammad Ali, will be honored for her work with charities.  Career achievement awards will go to Jackie Nava and Ana Maria Torres of Mexico and the eternal Alicia Ashley, who recently won the WBC world title at Super Bantamweight again at 48 years old.  Also expected to be announced are the winners of the WBC's awards for "Fight of the Year" and "Fighter of the Year".

The week-long convention culminates on the 30th of January with fights at the Centro de Convenciones in Rosarito.  The card is headlined by the WBC World Female Bantamweight title defense for Yazmin Rivas (34-8) as she faces Catherine Phiri (10-1).  The co-featured fights see a pair of WBC Silver titles contested in the Flyweight and Light Flyweight categories.  At Flyweight, undefeated champion Raja Amasheh (18-0-1) defends her belt against Eileen Olszewski (10-5-3) and at Light Flyweight, the vacant belt will go home with the winner of Ana Arrazola (24-11-2) vs. Anely Hernandez (6-5).  The rest of the twelve fight card consists of a mix of men's and women's matches scheduled for between four and six rounds.
