Sergio Martinez To See Knicks Doc, If OK, Plan is To Fight Early '15

Sergio Martinez will get a most thorough physical going over in September, body and brain, and should the results pan out favorably, Team Martinez' Nathan Lewkowicz told me, the ex middleweight champ will start planning more firmly a ring return.

"No opponent has been discussed," said Lewkowicz.

The Argentine turns 40 in February.

The first quarter of 2015 would the the time frame for a fight that would indeed be anticipated.

Is Sergio too far past his prime to once again be in the mix as a top caliber pugilist? Or will the theory that his subpar showing against Miguel Cotto stem from the fact he got clipped and buzzed bad in round one, and from then in, fought on muscle memory and a massive reservoir of heart?
