Robert Garcia Talks Gloves Controversy, Maidanas' Effort

Robert Garcia hasn't yet watched a tape of the superb work his man Chino Maidana did, in applying the rock-solid gameplan the trainer set for the Argentine on Saturday versus Floyd Mayweather.

As it turns out, the whole Garcia crew was in Vegas for the bout, so nobody thought to hit Buy and Record...so the Cali based tutor will wait until Saturday, and watch the re-broadcast on Showtime.

We're thinking he's going to be thinking along the same lines of what he was on Saturday evening, at the MGM....that his kid is a beast, and deserves mucho credit, if not a damned draw, for doing what Canelo and Cotto, among others, couldn't do...and that's give the self-proclaimed TBE a helluva fight.

"As for the gameplan, Floyd is a tough guy to handle, the best in history, maybe, but Chino went out and did his job," Garcia told me on Tuesday afternoon. "He's very tough, very strong, and he doesn't care or respect anyone's reputation. That had a lot to do with it, and he did everything I told him to."

Regarding what Floyd told him to do, or rather, Team Mayweather heavily suggested he do...the gloves issue...Garcia told me that to his knowledge, Maidana didn't get any extra money to accept lacing on the Everlast gloves he eventually did, after capitulating around 3 PM PT Saturday, because Floyd and company refused to box someone wearing the "Mexican Everlasts," the Everlast MX-make glove.

Check back for more from Garcia, who talks about the rematch he believes should occur, and how Maidana could do even better if there's a next time.

Floyd Mayweather is becoming the MC-Hammer of Boxing with his huge entourage & now with the " YOU CANT TOUCH THIS " move that he was pulling on Maidana for threatening to call off the fight with fallacious allegations of the gloves. Leonard Ellerbe following Floyd took the MC Hammer theme seriously when he did the gloves like MC.H with the "Insideout" move like a "Family Affair". Clearly Marcos Maidana knows who MC.H is when he said, "Feel My Power" its coming with " FULL BLAST" so you "Better Run Run", even Rick Ross was like "PLEASE HAMMER DONT HURT HIM". It was comforting to hear Richard Shaefer in tune when he said not to worry about "THE HITS" the fight is in "ACTIVE DUTY", while fans kept chanting "Let's Get It Started" and left with a Robbery. Everlast is promoting Maidana & the representative presented multiple gloves for "The Funky Headhunter" & "Prime Time " Argentine but TMT was dancing around the contract singing, "Return to EMI" please. The reputable Everlast representative defended & stood behind his product by countering with a quote pulled straight out of the MC. Hammer book when he yelled out, " 2-LEGIT-2-LEGIT-2-QUIT" while Grant Phillips himself being present & given the gloves to inspect by Floyd himself responded with a NON bias opinion right before the cameras when he busted out the "running-man" while chanting, "WE MUST PRAY". Floyd came to close to 2 Quack-Quacks and 2 Cluck-Clucks away from quitting. Grant Phillip the maker of Floyd's gloves and he said nothing bias towards the condition of the Everlast gloves as a matter of fact he pointed out the difference which backfired in Mayweather's face when Grant said, "I worry more about hand injury" and Floyd immediately cut him off because Grant is a heavy padded therapeutic glove that is market in that fashion.
El Dude reminiscing.

Friscoes are what they call us! Hehehe! You are gettin' on your Friscoe deadpan comedy in grand fashion. That is some funny script, El Dude. You crack me up.

In a minute, haters are going to start accusing you of being me. And I'm the one and only Radam G. And you are "El Dude...in it to win it." Haha! Holla!

El Dude says:

We are Rivals, opponents in this Forum of Ring, yes but with much respect to the game for it is you and El Dude standing Toe 2 Toe and I expect you to bring it because my echo is the chant that states that I'm in it to win it. Long Live Radam G. and El Dude who does not come 2 lose.

Radam G says:

Wow! Why is there always controversies with gloves and wraps of Latins/Hispanics? Hum! ODD! Holla!

Its common and even entertaining to watch fighters bend the rules. But not so much when a ref loses control of a fight. Then the bout becomes something else...something other than boxing.
Choosing the right ref is more important than choosing the right gloves.

Chino shouldn't worry about the gloves....just getting back in the ring with Floyd automatically
makes him a winner. Make that the first priority and everything else will fall into place....eventually.

On a different note....
Chino only weighed about 153 for his previous match with Broner.
Imagine if Broner took the rematch and faced the hulking, salivating, fire snorting, 165 pound version of Chino that fought Floyd?.... The fight wouldn't have lasted 4rounds

Please oh please, for me, just once, please describe Maidana's fighting style, or more specifically his overhand rights and hooks, for me in 150 words or more.

Or how about this: describe to me in vivid detail how a rematch with Khan or Alexander would look.

You've been on a roll lately, I need to hear it.

I'll see what I can do.

deepwater2 says:

The gloves make a big difference. Next time at the gym or a bout please try on the Mexican-style vs the orthopedic style. Both legal under commission rules but a totally different feel. Chino's style is a throwback style. Windmill style where punches come from any minute on the clock. A hook is usually thrown at 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock . With chinos throws the hook , it can come from 1 o'clock to 4 o'clock and 7 o'clock to 11 o'clock . Chino also rides the line with dirty tactics. Hopkins does it in a sneaky style where he positions himself according to where the ref is and let's the questionable blows rip. He also leads with his head at certain times and masks it with certain combinations . Chino hides nothing ,his aggressive tactics are plain for all to see, his momentum keeps the ref from halting the action. Chino uses his free hand to launch hammer type punches that no boxer has an answer for but because the other guy is holding he is permitted to do it.
Khan better be on his back foot for 3 minutes of all twelve rounds or chino might gobble him up. Roberto Duran thinks chino won the fight also. 3 options for Floyd, rematch Chino, fight pack, fight the winner of cotto vs Sergio . Anything else would be anti climatic

brownsugar says:

Agreed... Nice analysis

Carmine Cas says:

If Floyd says he let the fight turn into a brawl for the fans then he should have no problem giving the fans what they want; a rematch. I've seen a lot of casual fans complaining about Maidana's dirty tactics, but they fail recognize that Floyd bends the rules too just in a clandestine fashion.

MisterLee says:

I thought Maidana had it 8-4, or possibly 7-5. 3 counters to 8 body shots and 3-5 head shots is just comparable unless they stagger an opponent; I gave Maidana rounds 11 & 12.
