EXPOSED! Maidana Upsets Braggy Broner in Texas

Broner vs Maidadana maidana-wins-over-broner 21a79Welter titlist Adrien Broner looked to get closer to the Floyd Mayweather fight he says he doesn't want, with a tussle against Argentine bomber Marcos Maidana at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Right quick, on Saturday night he realized he needed to dig down deep, stay composed, after being knocked down in round two, and looking panicked. Broner went down yet again, in the eighth, and the crowd, not caring for some of his antics, prayed that Maidana would finish the job. He didn't, but the judges did the right thing, and scored it for the underdog, via scores of 115-110, 116-109, 117-109. The room exploded when Broner, not shy about proclaiming his superiority, was declared the loser.

Broner went 149-400 to 269-964 for Maidana (seen above in Rachel McCarson photo).

In the first, Broner aka The Problem, got knocked into the ropes. A hook-right combo worked, and the legs were tangled. Broner looked to clinch, a couple times, in the first minute. Maidana was in rumble mode from the get go. Broner was booed for getting chippy late.

In the second, down went Broner. It was big left hook, meant to look like a body shot. Maidana stalked, but Broner stayed aloft, and even countered late.

In the third, Broner got settled. He was slipping better, and his jab to the body started working. Broner was the man moving forward more by four, smart move considering how he looked when Maidana was backing him up. But a left hook landed flush-ish on Broner, and it was a tight round.

In the fifth, Broner got some combos going. But Maidana was maybe busier, if cruder. The jab was becoming more of a ket for the Ohioan. In the sixth, Broner looked in a rhythm. He was speedier, and was barking as he threw. But he ate a left hook late, as Maidana was backing up.

In the seventh, Maidana looked somewhat gassed. In the eighth, Broner went down again, after a left hook, body blow and left hook. Maidana then butted him while Broner clinched, Broner milked it, and the ref took a point.

A left hook buzzed Broner in the ninth and again he had to hold. Body blows clanged on Broner, and he had to be down on the cards. A long right landed on Broner at 2:10 in the tenth. Broner came forward more and yet again pushed off to get space. After the round, trainer Mike Stafford told AB he needed a KO.

In the 11th, Broner got busy like he needed to earlier on. Then Maidana landed a right, and hooks and had Broner on the ropes. Broner landed after the bell and the crowd hooted. In the 12th, Broner was precise to start. Broner got warned but no point was taken. Rights stung Maidana and then he buckled Broner. We went to the cards.

SouthPawFlo says:

I'm in San Antonio and it wasn't a hard fight to score, Maidana was busier and landed the harder punches, I had it 117-110.......

His Defense is what separates him from Floyd......

amayseng says:

SPF, Floyd is head and shoulders above AB. AB may have 3 losses maybe 4 in honest terms.

I agree, easy to score Maidana won many rounds AB like 2-3

brownsugar says:

Good win for Maidana.... When you get decked twice and out boxed byMaidana...you are not the next Floyd Mayweather. Broner turn in your Money Team card. Maidana proved his worth...I'm happy for him..
Good call RG!!!!!!

brownsugar says:

Broner is more interested in looking cute than he is in being effective.... The kid has groupies for cornermen. He also showed no fire when he knew he was losing...faking near death after a head butt. Humping opponents...naw dude...this is boxing not penitentiary porn.

Great boxing and a tremendously entertaining night of fights.

brownsugar says:

By the way, did anybody think Broner might have a broken jaw? He couldn't close his mouth, he was breathing real funny, and the lower right side of his face was uber swollen

Dunno...but his false sense of pride is crushed lol....

The Good Doctor says:

Lol. B-Sug, always with the spot on one liners.............

Radam G says:

YUP! He likely has a broken jaw. And I always said that he'd get one from not keeping his mouth and holding his head up in the deep-blue sky. Dude has a ton of unforgiving faults. Never has he impress me with the fakery. He will leave da game as fast as a first-time Amerkano sailor chasing a ho in Olonpago. Hehehe! Holla!

SouthPaul says:

A comic night at the fights watching Broner bitch up and scream for the refs help. Hillllaaaarious!

DaveB says:

Problem solved! Broner are you okay? Are you okay Broner? You just got struck by a smooth criminal. I honestly thought Broner would throw more punches period. His offense shuts down when he is under fire. He is not good at dealing with adversity. He had some chances when it seemed Maidana was very tired. If Broner's defense was as good as he thought it was he could get away with pot shotting. I'm not sad to see him lose because he is such an ***. Much credit to Maidana

SouthPawFlo says:

I think Broners confidence doesn't match his skill level, he's looking really good against tomato cans, but against the top Competition he got exposed, be better stay away from K. Thurman, he might get stopped.......

SouthPaul says:

Besides just being a better **** talker than a fighter ...all that factoring in... But Broner got his *** caught during the holidays pigging out ...drinking ....clubbing .... All this combined with facing a hungry, talented man in Miadana. What a fucking performance by the Argentinian. Inspiring!

dino da vinci says:

I think Broners confidence doesn't match his skill level, he's looking really good against tomato cans, but against the top Competition he got exposed, be better stay away from K. Thurman, he might get stopped.......

He should stay away from a lot of people.

Bernie Campbell says:

Still..... 2 champs! Now its on to California and.......Do what we came for!

SouthPawFlo says:

Bottom line, when things get Real, Broner doesn't throw enough punches, and his defense isn't good enough to keep him outta trouble, he'll always have trouble with pressure fighters and anybody with serious punchin power.

He should fight Zab Next, in the battle of the Losers....

Radam G says:

There is always tricks to the trade. And da game is full of small d¡¢k$ working BIG tricks.

Don't you guy dare forget that Alex Ariza is also the condition coach of Maidana. The Shadow Al Hymen's powers that be might have that full-of-dat-syet card working for them.

Broner was a coming-to-be-golden cow. Hooks, crooks and dirty books, those that can will reverse Maidana's win after somehow finding Maidana dirty with some of dat syet that Alex Ariza gave him and Bam Bam Rios. Holla!

mortcola says:

Let's look at this a---kickin'…..Broner was faster, more accurate, much-vaunted defense (mostly by Broner himself, but it IS a tricky defense), and he still got beaten to a pulp. Tells you something about boxing, why awkward, not-so-fast, strong guys can prevail against better athletes. Broner has tools, but his ego gets in the way so much that it will be the greatest limiting factor in his whole career. How can he ever reconcile himself to losing lopsided to a mere brawler like Maidana (missing the fact that Maidana is a highly skilled brawler, who can do all kinds of things with timing, sidestep angles, and changing punches midstream, and never stops trying to own you. Broner will never "get" it, and so he'll never get over it, and the period of win-some, lose-some has begun, and a few years from now we'll be wondering why we ever compared him to Mayweather. As for Maidana, you're a true fighter, son. Be proud.

If I could write better, I would have said this word for word.

SouthPawFlo says:

I just wish Broner takes tonight's loss as a lesson and bounces back. When previously undefeated fighters take a loss, a lot of times they are never the same.....

dino da vinci says:

@SPF. Actually, he has lost before. They just happened to get the score right this time.

amayseng says:

Broner aint bouncing back because he got handled and outclassed and out BOXED by a guy who is not a boxer.

Chino is a skilled fighter with decent IQ for sure and I dig him, he not only stomped Broner but my point is

that he OUT boxed Broner, quite easily I might add.

Thurman would knock Broner out, so would Matthyse, Garcia, Khan, yes even Khan would woop him if he

fought the right fight.

Pac would destroy him. Porter would beat him up as well. The Ghost would put him down multiple times

with his continuous grinding offense and south paw stance.

Broner may be in trouble from a career standpoint.

and NO, Chino do not give him a rematch, let him work his way up the ladder.

amayseng says:

that is correct DDV, Ponce beat him as did another fighter before that I cant remember the name.

This time it was scored correctly

Radam G says:

Those in da know never compared Broner's lack of skills to Money May.

Sorry Doc M-cola! But Broner has never been fast, just flash. He's never been accurate, just a slapper and swinger with loud grunts. And, OMFG! He's never had "vaulted defense." Not one optical illusion has the boot-legged magician pugilist played on me and nobody in da know.

I told everybodee and dey momma that this time will come sooner before later. I have a long trail of accuracy. And I'm going to stay on that trail. In 2014, a lot of Broner's types will be exposed for perpetrating a fraud. Holla!

Bernie Campbell says:

When ever previous undefeated fighters take a loss there never the same again? El presente Edwin Valero; para al Venezuela! El hombre etta tigre mas malo! No escuche, no hablamos! Never lost! Wasn't the same! Comprende' companeiros!

Radam G says:

B-Camp, quit trying to be cute. Never the same boxer, not the same person. Edwin Valero was the same always in dat squared jungle, even after his motorcycle spill and damaged brain. Holla!

Bernie Campbell says:

Sire! Please stop smelling your fingers every minute you get!...........Whod Dan Rafaek predict????

Read me again, Rad. I’m saying’ the same thing differently.

the Roast says:

Wow, the upset of 2013 brings the once great Mortcola back to the keyboard! I am borderline surprised the judges got it right tonight. Maidana did indeed test the chin of Broner and the Problem was solved. Very enjoyable night of boxing to say the least.

Well said Mort.

Broner can bicycle but tried to stick to a "stand your ground" style of fighting that's impossible to maintain. Obsessed with preserving a one dimensional look. ... And all through the prefight buildup Maidana just got more and more angry ...Maidana will be getting thank you letters for the next 6 months.

BFF says:

great posts to the TSS readers. do any of you guys know if there was a rematch clause? im with AMASENG on letting Broner work his way back up. But either way, an immediate rematch would be mad respect to both fighters from me. im just really glad chino was true to his words in that he was going to knock adrian off his high horse, and that he did, and props to the judges scoring..

BFF says:

did anyone watch the weigh in for this fight? the best part was when chino pushed boner head broner to the side to jump on the scale...ab got punked.... lmao.

jzzy says:

Great strategy by Chino who turned it into a fight from the getgo. Broner and his team gambled and
bit off more than they could chew with the move to welter. The fight with Paulie showed Broner's
deficiencies in this regard. Broner has been in soft but now he's in with the Big dogs, he needs more
footwork, he stays in the pocket too much and with not enough firepower at welter. Now that he's
ate some humble pie we'll see if he responds like a champ. This loss will make or break him going
forward.

The Shadow says:

You guys wanna know something why I thought Broner was the truth? And why he'll be good in the future? I'll tell you anyway.

A few months ago, some pro fighters -- rising prospects -- who are part of the Klitschkos camp, Broner's camp, Mike Tyson's promo outfit and more swung by South Beach.

One of them has sparred and worked daily with AB. Dude said with a straight face that he though AB could beat Floyd.

Moreover, he told me how AB doesn't tire, how he would box insane length rounds and display amazing feats of stamina.

If you guys notice, AB took some hellacious body shots over the course of the first few rounds that would have sapped the strength of a normal man. Yet, at no point did I see any visible signs of fatigue. That's incredible.

I thought he also showed decent composure under fire, at first, anyway. He's just a spoiled little idiot. I think he comes back and wins the title back soon.

(One big minus, though. How in the hell did he keep getting caught on the ropes in that huge ring???)

Ultimately though, we gotta see AB for what he is: he won a split decision vs. Paulie and just dominated by Maidana -- a guy that had a harder time with Soto-K and Lopez.

He's not there yet.

Broner will be great, just by virtue of his mind and what that will attract. This might just be what the doctor ordered for him.

ultimoshogun says:

Looks like we may find out sooner than later, Shadow, since Broner has stated he wants an immediate rematch. From what I saw from Broner last night, I don't see the outcome of a rematch being any different if he brings the same gameplan...he looked like he may have been looking for a way out when he pulled that flop after Maidana's light headbutt. This time around I'd like to see them in a smaller ring.

DaveB says:

Yes B-Sug, Maidana will be getting thank you cards for the next six months. (Classic) He will get a thank you card from Broner's father who didn't have to brush his hair post fight. A thank you card from the fighter who said he just wanted a fair one when Broner didn't make weight and joked about eating Twinkies. A thank you card from Paulie who tried to show respect after their fight and Broner said I still got your girl. The fans that got to see this jerk get his come uppance. A thank you card will even come from the women whose pocketbooks were snatched and the merchants he stole from everyday as a kid and brags about even now. All the flaws that Radam speaks of I saw too. Broner always has his mouth open when he is in the ring or outside of it. Usually he is chewing gum but he always breathes through his mouth. He slaps with his punches and he always got hit a lot. But I thought that he fought to the level of his opposition to a certain degree and would step up his game against better hard hitting opponents. We found that isn't the case. He tried so hard ala Hopkins to get Maidana disqualified for the head butt. He rolled on the floor and almost cried because the ref didn't stop the fight. Will he learns from this and become a better person? I would think not. If he does that will be the most surprising thing of all. The way he stormed out of the ring, dry humped Maidana, and tried to get the DQ I don't think so.

amayseng says:

I read about that, Chino is a badass and is not to be F'ed with. Some dudes you cant punk mentally or physically and Chino is one of them.

Also forgot about Broner saying he would beat Chino to death in the ring. There is no room for that disrespect and nonsense. A 16 year old amateur just lost his life in the ring this week. No room for that.

Right on DaveB, Broner showed his true colors and those colors are that he is weak hearted. He was begging the ref for help at times, complaining and when he put on an Oscar worthy performance from that head raise, not even a head butt, head raise, then you immediately saw what he is made of. The kid has no humility, yes kid, because he is not a man the way he acts and conducts himself. Rolling around on the floor and flipping and flopping trying to get Chino disqualified and get himself out of the fight revealed his true heart and soul. AB couldnt come forward or run, Chino spanked him all over that ring. If they fight again it will end early, step right and throw that left hook, all night Chino.

DaveB says:

Amayseng, Maidana doesn't have the most technically gifted style in the world but it was amazing how he sold Broner into thinking he was throwing a body shot and instead threw a left hook to the head. I thought about you during the fight and I thought you must be peeing your pants. Every once in a while you get to see an a$$ like this get what is coming to them. If he was a good guy I would just shrug it off (him losing) and say it happens but to see him get payback was pretty exciting even though I thought coming in that he would win. The poster child for too big for your britches.

Carmine Cas says:

What a great night, my gf and I were jumping up and down. Justice has been served. And Radam made some good points; Broner slaps throwing arm punches while keep his mouth open yapping like chihuahua. He doesn't turn his hips, at 147 his slapping is not as effective as it is at 135, unless he hits you after the bell.

The ref was absolutely atrocious, either incompetent or bought by Uncle Al. And yeah this decision could come back because Ariza was in the corner. Either way justice has been the fatty poom poom got shut up and sent away with a broken jaw, maybe they'll do us all a favor and wire it shut

Carmine Cas says:

I don't think a rematch will be any different, Broner is straight bytch

Haha, thanks DaveB. Yep I was yelling and hollering it was a great night for restoring balance to the world. Broner got his *** spanked like a shitty spoiled 6 year old bully.

You are right and like I posted before Chino OUT boxed AB, feinting jabs after selling them and landing left hooks to floor him. He was also stepping right during combinations which allowed him to land the left hook low or up top at the end of his punches. AB had no answers, therefore was outboxed and beat up. And you know what good for Chino who conducts himself well outside and inside the ring, he is a true professional I am glad this opens up some paydays for him.

Broner wont be back or make it to world class level, if he becomes a better human being then good.

I would like to see the Ghost whoop him next, it will be worse than what Chino did.

GREAT night of fights......

also, Radam G was all over this from the beginning. I was wrong I though AB would out box Chino and win a close decision, but you guys are right, he has no power, is flashy with arm punches and doest torque through his shots.

Great post my friend, the ref was terrible, that shot after the bell was awful...

Maybe I am crazy but I would have put a few down low the very next round after that late shot, then followed up with a few nice elbows inside.. You gotta stand up for yourself.

SouthPaul says:

Good stuff, Amayseng, Broner indeed got spanked like the kid bully he is. I rewatched the fight because had missed the ring entrance and part of the first round. That entire corner of Broner's looked like a bad parody as they came into the ring. And today, it's all quiet on Broner's twitter account. Lmfao. Funniest *** whippin' of the year!

Carmine Cas says:

Thanks guys, and yeah let's not take anything away from Chino. Hell of a professional, he had the perfect combination of awkwardness and precision to upset the premadonna broner. Coupled with tremendous heart and determination, this dude is a problem.

Yeah I don't blame you, but Maidana was smart not to retaliate too much because Laurence Cole was clearly babying the bytch. I'm surprised Robert Garcia waited that long to say something to the ref. Loved his return humping later in the fight though lol

SouthPaul says:

Laurence Cole has always been a questionable ref. His father is a big shot in Texas.

Still laughing about this *** kicking. Lmfao@Broner rushing out of the ring while the crowd threw drinks at him. Lovely. Great scene, well deserved....

miguel1 says:

Maidana made a fan out of me again, wish he had gone after Khan like that, but Khan at least can keep you at a distance. Broner may be athletic, but he is short and stubby and his body type works against him as well. Would love to see him head to 130 and get mauled by Rigondeaux.

i watched the fight here in South America lol, and everyone in the bar was roaring at Broner's flopping after the graze. They were like, what is this guy a soccer player? lol.

spit bucket says:

El Chino carries himself with quiet dignity at the same time exuding badassery. I like that kind of machismo… sort of like John Wayne. Broner's attempt to act like a flamboyant grandiose world beater and as he says, "An entertainer", make him seem more like Liberace. Normally I don't hold with throwing things at a beaten fighter, but in this case I was quite alright with it. By the way, what happened to Broner's teeth? Did Lil Wayne take them back?

spit bucket says:

@miguel1… funny post!

Agreed. Great thread.

lol i have a boss that is generous to fighters and boxers when he can be, im kinda scared he might give Broner a job washing cars or something lol

Broner is and was mentally tore up from day flo' up! I'm not going to get all up in his biz, but the dude is focusing too much on XXX movie making, reality WEB-TV and becoming a super rap star..

He's so full of it. And has lost the required narrow focus on-top-of-the-top elite boksing. I will be stateside in SoCal next week. With getting his arse whupped, I hope that Broner won't be around disturbing the peace. Holla!

xxx movie making? I hope you are kidding

No way that I'm kidding. You'd be surprised what people will go to Cali to do in the moment without they are not thinking. I won't name pugilists who already went down that XXX path. Holla!

Well we see what type of dad he truly has

sad

Hopefully he won't become a drunk and start riding motorcycles at full speed. I can't count the tragic loss of life of fighters who self destruct after losing...

Carmine Cas says:

Yeah I'm not surprised by these revelations, after defecating on Lincolns and then the sex tape this boy definitely has some deep seeded issues. Maybe this beating helped and him and brought him back to earth.

Radam G says:

"The theatre of the expected" is always in full form. Broner is going to have a place to get off. Crazy talk is all up in the grapevines about the former multi-light middleweight champ Terry Norris opening up a boxing gym with former pornstar Sunny Leone. WOW! I hope nothing is going on below the belly button. Hehehehe! Holla!

miguel1 says:

Most of the rhetoric from Broner has been arrogant after the fight, and you can see Richard shaefer's teeth or pate glemaing, not sure wihh, but he is gleaming at the idea of a rematch and tha tis just stoopid. If i could re-incarnate Troy Dorsey's youth and career, I would condemn Broner to fight him 500 times for wasting my time with his hype. Dorsey would outwork this boy almost everytime.

the Roast says:

This fight was a blast. I watched it again this morning and this evening. The best part was when Maidana returned the hump from behind late in the fight. F-U-N. Broner has short arms. He is in for a rough ride vs bigger fighters in the years ahead. More humpings from behind are coming his way.

The Shadow says:

"Hey Roast Beef, Youre talking sh++"

I don't know, I always wanted to say that lol

Ha HA that has been said a few times over the years by Roast haters that came and went. Roast something or other with toast has always been popular too. Its all good, the Roast can take it

It's actually a verbatim Bernie C. quote that had me crackin up for days. In the middle of a very deep debate you guys were having, he ended it with that. OMG I'm getting stomach cramps thinking about it now HAHAHA

gibola says:

I'm a bit late getting on this thread but can I just say how much I enjoyed Broner's defeat. He's a talented fighter but he's an arrogant, tasteless, immature human being who does the game more harm than good in the long run. I had to laugh when his corner dared try to tell him things were going wrong and he still had to keep up the ridiculous caricature/facade he's invented for the cameras rather than act like a fighter should in his corner when he's just been nearly KO'd. It's particularly satisfying that a relatively unskilled guy beat him with old fashioned qualities like aggression, commitment, punch output and hard hitting. I can't stand the whole Mayweather/Broner shtick but at least PBF is a great fighter (that would be enough to sell but he doesn't see that). Hopefully Broner's defeat means we won't have a PBF clone spouting the same nonsense for the next ten years. Congrats Maidana - you fought a helluva fight! Khan-Maidana rematch anyone?

Shoulder Roll Defense says:

I eat my crow like a champion. I thought that Broner had an average boxing IQ to go with his athleticism, but he doesn't. He lost this fight because of his inability to make adjustments. He could have been successful if he had primarily boxed behind his jab from the outside, a la Khan and Alexander, but he chose to fight Maidana's fight by staying in the pocket and slugging it out. This was his demise and his corner didn't do him any favors by constantly instructing him to walk Maidana down. The kid needs a new corner and should come to realize that he can't walk his opponents down in the welterweight division because of his lack of size and punch. Skills pay the bills and he does have skills. Will Broner bounce back like Sugar Ray Leonard after his first career loss to the great Roberto Duran? I think he has the potential to do so if he takes his craft seriously and comes to grip with why he lost.

Hilarious.

I disagree with SRD, Broner doesnt have the footwork or jab to box outside and lost this fight to Chino on the inside, outside, going forward, backward, running away and getting not only out fought but out boxed.

Broner got his *** kicked in every manner.

The kid has the skills but he doesnt have the boxing iq or tenacity needed. He kept fighting, but he also did try to find a way out. numerous times. Say what you will about Floyd but he doesnt back down or flee when the going gets tough.

The Shadow says:

Believe it or not, Broner actually has a very high boxing IQ. He's what I like to call an idiot by choice; someone who chooses to be stupid by being arrogant.

He would try to walk the guy down right away without feeling him out, without respecting Maidana's power. Well, guess what happened! He got CLIPPED less than 30 seconds in.

Stupidity by arrogance.

He reminds me of this bum a** kid in business school who was obviously extremely intelligent and had gotten through life on that natural ability alone and developed a certain arrogance from it where he didn't think he should work that hard.

But when it came to MBA level, his sh*t got exposed. Because he chose to be arrogant, because he chose not to apply himself, he fell short. Even though he probably had the best natural ability.

Broner is an arrogant idiot - by choice. And I think his corner fell for the hype, too. He can do it all and he's very smart. But a guy needs to make the right decisions inside the ring and out.

He needed to be matched better on the way up. And he needed to make better decisions in the ring.

He had the ability to smoke Maidana. He just chose to be an idiot.

Radam G says:

Wow! I disagree with a bit of what everybody is saying about Broner. Dude is a flash in the pant. He has zero boxing IQ. And the small amount of savvy that he definitely has, he is too stupidly arrogrant to use it.

Unless he go to see a life coach and a psychologist, he will not be back. He will go full time into porno-movie making and rapping. He doesn't really believe that he is all that and a bag of chips. Dude wanted to be loved by Money May. He has an unhealthy attraction to Money May.

I cannot remember off the top of my head what that attraction is call. Nonetheless, Broner was actually hoping and wanting to clone Money May. Now that Broner failed, he will go into deep depression if he doesn't see a therapist quickly. Mark my words. Holla!

Interesting perspective. You're right, his obsession is a bit disturbing. Now that the whole undefeated thing is gone FOREVER, his whole entire identity and perception of self is shattered.

He is going to to need a therapist or depression will be coming quickly.

Fortunately for him, celebrity depression involves a lot of the same debauchery he's been indulging in already.

Who knows, RG? We might be seeing him star in that show Horny Fornicators.

Already saw it! That doesn't mean much. He's just saying he's no Mayweather. No one is. But I hear ya. In five years or so, he may be a dominant fixture at 147-154. Until then, he should go dehydrate and pick on the little guys until he gets more experience.

amayseng says:

I agree Radam and like I mentioned months and months ago, Broner is a DAD, a parent, when you are a DAD you dont look up to another man as your idol. And that is what Broner did. That is weak.

I will be damned if my son sees me , his dad, his idol, being weak looking up to another man like that.

I have one hero in life that was my dad, not another man who should be my peer.

I am with ya on Broner's humility from the beginning, I just thought he had the talent to keep him at the championship level, he doesnt.

Ditto that, Sug...The last time I was this glad to see someone lose was when Barrera gave the Prince an embarrassing boxing lesson.

Thanks Ultimo ... Michonne finally got the Govnah' and that will hold me until The Walking Dead kicks back-in in February. I was at a party when Evander took down Tyson...we all started singing when Tyson got stopped and the party got started in earnest ......we thoroughly enjoyed his defeat..... Yes, Barrera beating the prince was classic too.

I love the Walking Dead too! It looked like Rick was about to rejoin Lori and Shane for a couple of tense seconds there!

I agree with you Radam but I actually see problems from a physical standpoint, not a psychological or emotional one. Dude has the problems:

1. He needs a REAL trainer. It is obvious from telling everybody to "chill the f*** out" after he got knocked down he runs the camp completely

2. His defense is actually not very good. If you are going to use the "shell, shoulder roll, crab" defense then you must execute it right. If not executed well, it can leave huge vulnerabilities. His feet are are way too wide, his chin is too high, he rolls the wrong way often, and he never raises his left elbow to protect from the overhand right. Maidana, Rees, and De Leon showed that.

3. His stamina is questionable.

4. He is not precise enough to have 20 punch thrown rounds and win. Either he has to become way more accurate or increase his output.

5. Although he has some power, it does not appear he has carried the power he had at 135 to 147. Paulie, and Maidana are tough dudes but I never saw a point in any of their fights with Broner where they were hesitant at his power. Maybe buzzed, but never hesitant. Khan made Maidana hesitate a little, Cotto made Paulie hesitate, Broner didn't make either of them stop for a split second.

Radam G says:

@TGD, dang! You straight-up conducted a surgery at it's sweet science's best. No way I can I argue with that physicality thesis of weak-in-the-noggin Bonehead -- I mean Broner. Hehehe! Holla!

Good points, doc. A few comments:

I don't think he runs the camp. I just think they were totally shocked because he hasn't been floored before and he tried to calm everyone down. Remember Tarver talking a similar way to McGirt in his second bout with RJ?

Excellent observation about not protecting the overhand right. If you watch Floyd vs any volume puncher that tries that junk, he either ducks or just raises is elbow. Combinations on him is nothing to Floyd. Broner? Not so much.

His stamina is actually pretty good. Notice all the body punches he took without slowing down. I've heard gym tales about him that mirrors Mayweather's stamina. Now why he doesn't throw more punches I don't understand.

Finally, he hurt Maidana a few times, most visibly in the 12th round, when he made Maidana back up off and backpedal for a little bit. He's a decent puncher who just happened to face some tough men.

When Paulie was stopped vs. Khan, he was throwing back and not even hit clean once during the attack. Smoger just thought Paulie was faded and that the fight was no longer competitive. He's a tough guy. I think he will floor a few more guys.

I'll say this: not being able to stop Maidana and Paulie by no means exposes you as a non-puncher.

On a different note, HBO, it appears, is adopting the boxing format for other sports. I'm watching a 24/7 commercial for hockey (???!). Have you guys seen that?

Excellent post and points, Doc. You're the man.

Radam G says:

Ditto that, The Shadow! Broner can definitely mimick and mirror Money Macy's stamina in training. A lot of fighters are super bad in training. They are called gym fighters. Broner is in that company. In the gym, they don't suffer from mental stress and exhaustion. But under those hot lights and big crowds, they go mentally WACKY!

Broner told his corner to calm da fudge down to get himself calm and psyched up mentally. Tarver has same the problem with not being mentally in shape, except for against Roy Jones Jr, who he has fought since they were eight and nine years old.

Pops Joy May would be a good match to train Broner, because da game is 85-percent mental. And PJM is a mental training guru. Physical tool ain't syet if you don't have the right mind and mentality.

"You're blowin,' SON! You're BLOWIN!'

Those above famous that the late, great GTGOAT Angie Dundee screamed to get Sugar Ray Leonard in mega-super-whup-@$$ gear would have never worked on Broner, because Broner -- in his petrified mental state -- would've told GTGOAT Angie "to chill da f°¢k out."

TGD was right. Broner was out of line and a physical nut case, and a mental midget. Holla!

amayseng says:

What a line by Dundee

From time to time I go back and watch those special fighters in the 70's and 80's.....
