Jabbaholic Malignaggi The Sharper Man, Beats Judah in BK Battle

MalignaggivsJudahThe jab was fab for Paul Malignaggi in the main event at Barclays Center on Saturday evening. The left, pop, pop, from  the Bensonhurst boxer made him the king of the pugilism hill, as his foe, Zab Judah of Bensonhurst simply didn't work hard enough to convince anyone in the building that he deserved to win. The judges had it 116-111, 117-10, 117-110. I gave Zab just one round, the round in which he scored an iffy knockdown.

Judah pressed on the gas with three seconds to go, but all in all, he looked, sorry to say, old, not like the "old" Zab he promised this week. He couldn't or wouldn't get the gun out of the holster.

Paulie came in with a 32-5 record while Zab was 42-8. The NABF welter crown was up for grabs.

In the first, Paulie was busier. He worked to the body though Zab’s left may have been the hardest punch of the frame.

In the second, Paulie went down, a flash knockdown, off a left. He complained it was a slip. It did look like a leg was tangled.

In the third, they clashed heads and winced. A cut bled on Paulie’s left eye but he worked harder in the round.

In the fourth, Paulie dictated pace and distance with the jab.

In the fifth, Zab kept backing up against Paulie the stalker. Paulie was busier and won the round. Again.

In the sixth, the man who worked harder won it.

In the seventh, Paulie worked harder, though Zab tried to steal the round with a body shot at the bell. Zab pawed at his right eye at one point.

In the eighth, Paulie’s jab won him the round. Zab watched and looked for that perfect opening, while Paulie worked. In the ninth, Zab took another round off and let Paulie dictate.

In the 10th, the boos rained down, mostly aimed at Judah, who didn’t and maybe couldn’t get off.

In the 11th, Zab watched and waited, all round long. In the 12, Paulie stayed smart, avoided the odd straight left and waited for the cards, after Judah pressed him hard with two seconds left. The two jawed after the final bell, and we went to the card.

"Jabbaholic?" I like it! Another word to join the long trail of boxing slanguage. Holla!

SouthPaul says:

The best perforamce of the night was Al Haymon signing Paulie. Puts a hault to the criticism and now Al Haymon management have a positive mouthpiece saying nice things about them in the future. Boy I tell you, this Al man is a baddddddd man!

brownsugar says:

Agreed..although i dont care too much about promoters Al Hayman has the best 140, and 147 fighters in the business.

I don't think I got a single pick right tonight...but 8 fights in 1 night was fantastic.

SouthPaul says:

Same here, bad night of predications! Am just now watching Kirkland vs Tapia. Looks like a street fight from my old neighborhood. Fun watch.

amayseng says:

I actually predicted quite well, just didnt log it anywhere........been working overtime and barely online the last two weeks.

Tapia's inexperience failed him , he was worn out early by allowing Kirkland, who is like the Terminator, who never stops coming and throwing, landed some body shots that took Tapias endurance.

And how terrible was his corner???? this is how guys get put into a coma and never come out. Terrible.

the kid has some talent, but his corner and trainer is God Awful... hope he is ok.

Kirkland is a beast but he EATS punches like he is starving. GGG would near kill him or anyone devastating

puncher for that matter.

SouthPaul says:

Yea, they were a ragtag group of cornermen. The big heavy dude outside the ropes telling Tapia to breathe was a classic scene. Lmfao. Pretty scary though the way Tapia was out as he sat in his stool. Eyes closed, faded out !

Uncle Roger was a useless blowhard as usual last night. He offered nothing useful in Agbeko's corner. Annoying ****.

SP, they've been in cahoots for months! And hell yes, it's super smart. Like RG mentioned a month and change ago, Team Haymon now has a popular presence on the air as well.

And don't forget Paulie's not just a commentator for the premium fights, he's also the analyst for their new FS1/GBP franchise, so his reach is broad and wide!

Paulie can be a big asset to them. Looks like my Crimson boy Haymon's prophecy is coming true. "If I would, I could run boxing." He's coming darn close.

Speaking of which, Golden Boy Promotions should pull a WWE/KFC/UFC, drop any and all references to the "Golden Boy" and things of that nature and just call it "GBP."

Like Livestrong, the brand has outgrown its founder and any association with its founder -- due to scandals -- is no longer beneficial to the brand.

What do you guys think?

"Golden Boy on Fox," sounds so wack. GBP on FS1 has more oomph to it, I think.

In doing so, in a few years, just like IBM, BMW, HTC, M&Ms, IKEA and many, many more popular business acronyms, nobody will even know/care what GBP stands for anymore.

I also like that they're grooming B-Hop into the role of promoter more and more. With Oscar in rehab, he's a huge asset to that corporation.

Dude, if that Japanese cat knocked Kirkland silly (how silly is it that he refers to himself in the third person as "Kirkland" anyway?) OMFG, Trips might fatally wound that boy.

If you had predictions, just post them and I'll keep them in the log. I don't think you'd cheat hehehe.

And who the hell is 50 going to match him up with now anyway? Vanes? Latin Snake?

Radam G says:

Danggit! Al Hymen straight-up BIG-money PIMPED Paulie to STFU about the shadowry activities of The ("boxing advisor") Shadow.

D@MN! Paulie straight sold out about speaking about the righting the wrongs of our shady, seedy sport of whip @$$! He got a hook up and in the poop -- I mean the loop -- of the well connected fighters, so he is shuttin' the double fudge up.

OMFG! Tell me it ain't so! Paulie is damn a Radam G -- I mean Judas for da BREAD. Back in da day, you could always shut my arse up by giving up da BIG PAY. Hehe! Don't hate! There is a time for everything under the sun. Even bytchin' out to get connected and clout. Holla!

brownsugar says:

Fans have had a love hate relationship with Judah for over a decade. Judah restores his trust with fans for past failures by having a few success.... And just when you think he's on the "straight and narrow" Zab dissappoints again.
I hope Zab knows he's lost his last iota of trust last night.
From now on I don't want hear any more repentant proclamations from Zab about how he'll do better next time...Dude your done!....
Go join Shane Mosley as the next RUNG on the ladder to success.
Where success is measured by how much resistance you offer up before you lose.

Radam G says:

I still think that Zab has a little sumptin,' sumptin' left. Fighting Paulie is and was the wrong style match up for him. Styles make fights. I don't think that even a prime Zab could've beat Paulie. Holla!

brownsugar says:

Maybe so RG but Zab has permanently lost this fan.... forever.

Carmine Cas says:

What was Zabdiel waiting for? Paulie did sell out, what a shame

brownsugar says:

I presume he was waiting for his ride back to the airport Carmine ..... He sure wasn't waiting for any openings, Hatton, and Diaz hit him regularly when he was in his prime. Due credit to Paulie for the win... And congrats to Malignacci for signing with Haymon... But Zab lost all credibility. Maybe he has a career as an announcer?

Speaking about announcing ...I think being a regular announcer on Showtime which comes with a much higher degree of visibility has added a noticable increase to his self esteem. I expected to see the Paulie who fought Cano and we got the Paulie who went life or death with Cotto.
In addition to this he can now hob-nob and compete with the hottest group of welters in the business. Zab....Zab.....Zab..... You blew it son.

SouthPaul says:

Paulie's an emo so its all a matter time before he turns on Al Haymon again, when all the opportunities have run out...that's when Maliciousgnaggi will spill the beans on what really went down behind the scenes. He turned on Dibella the same ...see it likely won't be anyi different here. It'll come, my friends ....

Great post SP...
Maliciousgnacci....

SouthPaul says:

Thanks. Was actually in middle of typing this:

Good post on Judah, Brown Sugar. Shoud've known somehting was up...Zab wasn't talking all his religious god talk...had his daddy back in the corner and was acting all braggadocio in the prefight locker room interview. Did you notice him gazing off out in the crowd as his father tried giving him instructions ? Effffin' sucka' can't focus for more than a few seconds at a time. Lmfao

brownsugar says:

Yep... No fire, no passion... Barely put up more of a fight than Agbeko...lol.
Post fight Zab said he didn't have it. Maybe he should have said.."he didn't want it"... I'm done mourning the loss... Out with the old... Make some room for the next generation.

Shoulder Roll Defense says:

Zab Judah and Shane Mosley need to go on a permanent vacation. No mas!

Let them fight! Let them fight! Let them fight!

Ditto! Let 'em fight! Holla!
