If you can, pretend for a moment that the first MMA show that was thrown together as a whim back in 1993 never happened and MMA didn't take off years later and isn't the surging sport that it is today. That's right, imagine there's no MMA at this time and then ask yourself if you would care about professional boxing any more than you do now. I'll bet the answer is no.... Read more...

The WBC doesn't always make sense. But since Pacman won't defend that 154 pound strap (above), the sanctioning body will declare the belt vacant. Saul Alvarez has taken a fast track to the No. 1 ranking, while Alfredo Angulo is No. 2.The WBC is in the process of declaring vacant the super welterweight championship, which is currently held by Manny Pacquiao, if the voting of the WBC Board of Governors returns a 2/3 vote in favor. Pacquiao has expressed that he does not want to defend the title and prefers not to fight in that weight division in the future. Rule 1.24 b) gives double-division champions 15 days to decide which title they want to relinquish. The WBC,... Read more...

Look at those gleaming choppers. Why, these three folks, Floyd Mayweather, Bob Arum, and entertainer Jamie Foxx seem like they are the best of friends as they get their party on at Super Bowl 45 in Dallas on Sunday. You all recall that Arum promoted Mayweather, until they parted ways in 2006 with some acrimony, after Floyd turned down a then career best payday to tangle with Antonio Margarito. But a deal is a deal, and money is money, and the prospects of Goldman Sachs-y pile of green can make old grudges disappear. So, shall we rejoice because this snap by Chris Farina/Top Rank indicates that Mayweather and Arum are on the same page, after last... Read more...

This coming May 7th former three division champ Shane Mosley 46-6-1 (39) will challenge WBO welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao 52-3-2 (38) in what will certainly be the last high profile bout of Shane's Hall Of Fame boxing career, unless he upsets Manny. By the time the bell rings for round one, Mosley will be four months shy of turning 40 years old. And let's be honest, Mosley has looked every bit the part of a 40 year-old fighter during his last two bouts, versus Floyd Mayweather and Sergio Mora.... Read more...

All reporters had Davis (r) winning. The judges said otherwise. Egregiously poor judging is one of the sports' biggest problems. (Chris Farina/Top Rank)MAYWOOD, CA-Mexico’s Francisco Sierra escaped with a strange majority draw against Florida’s Dyah Davis, who seemed to have won the fight easily on Saturday at the Maywood Activity Center. Davis (18-2-1) seemed to clearly be cruising toward a win over Sierra (23-3-1) but the judges saw otherwise in the 10-round super middleweight fight. It was Top Rank’s first card in Maywood in years and was televised by Fox.... Read more...

Too many MMA fans had paid too much money to see too little action from Anderson Silva in the past. So they were ready to get their boo on after two boring minutes in the main event of UFC 126 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Then Silva launched thunder from his hind leg, in the form of a front kick, which landed on Vitor Belfort's chin, and dropped the former Phenom to the floor. Two punches later, ref Mario Yamasaki interceded and halted the bout to save Belfort further punishment.... Read more...
