 No surprise in Kimbo Slice's pro boxing debut. The fearsome-looking ex backyard brawler turned MMA invader turned pro pugilist beat up James Wade, scoring a TKO in round one in an off TV bout at the Buffalo Run casino in Miami, Oklahoma on Saturday night. Kimbo (born in the Bahamas, living in Florida; age 37) came out guns a blazing on the green-looking Wade (from Missouri; age 39; 0-1 entering, stopped in his sole fight). A flurry capped by a right uppercut dropped Wade, who fell on his back, his head falling onto the first ring rope.  Mares is pleased as his BFF Russell Mora counts a knockdown in round one. (Hogan) Showtime announcer Al Bernstein called ref Russell Mora's work during the Abner Mares-Joseph Agebko bantamweight tournament final on Saturday the very worst he's seen in 15 years. Mora missed numerous low blows thrown by Mora, including a hellacious low left hook which landed right on IBF bantamweight champion Agbeko's cup which the ref called a knockdown. That blow came in round 11, and it was thrown right in front of the ref's face.  There seems to be a trend cooking. Fortysomething fighters are turning in some of the best showing of their careers. B-Hop, Grady Brewer, and now Monte Barrett has joined the four-decade club of boxers who've impressed with a solid showing in 2011.Barrett, who turned 40 in May, earned a UD12 over David Tua, himself nearing that mark which used to signal last stop on the pugilism express. The two vets clashed in New Zealand Saturday, in a rematch of their July 2010 tussle, which saw them fight to a draw in Atlantic City.  If Kermit Cintron is the 'A' grade fighter he presumably thinks he is, one would think he'd have his way with Antwone Smith, a solid 'B' fighter who has never stepped up into the 'A' arena. But each round of their ten round scrap in the main event of ESPN's Friday Night Fights, which unfolded at the Ameristar Casino in Saint Charles, Missouri, was tight. Cintron and Smith looked to be of the same caliber, with neither man able to step on the gas, and pull away from his opponent. He fought some of the best and brightest of heavyweights of a golden era, and if Scott LeDoux didn't win most of the big fights, his legacy will shine in another, more important area: he was a good man.The Minnesota-born boxer, who retired in 1983 after a loss to Frank Bruno, with a 33-13-4 record, died Thursday at his home in Coon Rapids, MN. He was 62 years old, and had been battling Lou Gehrig's disease for three years. LeDoux soldiered on in many a clubfight before he finally received the opportunity of his lifetime.
