We heard Bernard Hopkins the weeks before his latest masterpiece--before painting Tavoris Cloud in a corner, and not letting the younger man do anything he wanted at Barclays Center on March 9--tell us that he was looking forward to beating Cloud, and thus ending Don King's business. Cloud became King's top client as Ricardo Mayorga drifted toward semi retirement and Devon Alexander jumped to Golden Boy. Hopkins told us that when he beat Cloud, that would be the end of the King Era. I thought of that after Hopkins had his hand raised in Brooklyn and the 48-year-old hitter reminded all about his quest to finish off The Don (pictured in Hogan photo, above, with Cloud days before... New York, NY (3/14/13) - As the date of Gennady Golovkin's title fight in Monte-Carlo looms, Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman has issued a stark warning to the WBA and IBO middleweight champion: "Underestimate Nobuhiro Ishida at your peril." Unbeaten Golovkin makes his seventh title defence against the Japanese boxer, who is considered an underdog against one of the world's best fighters, in Monaco on March 30. Berman's fighters have a remarkable knack for upsetting the odds, none more impressive than Corrie Sanders, who stopped heavy favourite Wladimir Klitschko in two rounds for the WBO heavyweight title 10 years ago.The late Sanders was a prohibitive underdog, but he stunned the doubters with the performance... It's nice to be wanted, isn't it? Bernard Hopkins is blessed with options today, more than he was after he looked so-so in his second tussle with Chad Dawson. Andre Ward said he'd be open to fighting The Executioner, Nathan Cleverly said he'd like to show the old man that his ring generalship isn't all that, Jean Pascal wouldn't mind another crack. Others would like a chance to show the pugilistic sage of our age that his time on the stage isn't infinite. But being the cagey negotiator he is, the 48-year-old put out a statement which offered a peek at one potential path, but then re-directed the reader to another path, without much in the way of illumination. It's the way he likes... Read more...
