Yamanaka has held the WBC’s belt since November of 2011 and this match with Carlson marks what will be his twelfth title defense. He is coming off a seventh round stoppage win over Panama’s Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno in his last fight last September. *That fight was a notable win for Yamanaka because he had eeked out a split decision over Moreno in their first meeting.

At 26 years old, Carlson will be 8 years younger than Yamanaka and though he has never fought in Japan, he has fought roughly half his fights in the United States. The only loss of his career came back in March of 2011 in his first pro fight, so he has won 22 fights in a row to earn this title shot.
