His opponent Zou Shiming has received unprecedented attention in the build-up to what is his second attempt at a world championship. Meanwhile, Phaprom has been going about his business preparing for the biggest fight of his life this Saturday. The veteran of over forty fights in his native Thailand has long fought using the name Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym, one of his country’s long standing boxing tradition of using your gym association in your name.

Our Boxing Channel cam-controller Marcelino Castillo caught Phaprom’s words at the podium during Thursday’s*Top Rank press conference.

Phaprom’s brief words about fighting in the center of the ring are interesting in light of the fact that Saturday’s fight is a rematch. Phaprom, who turned professional in 2010, sports a fine 39-1-2 record with his lone loss coming at the hands of Zou Shiming. Phaprom speaks in his native language and receives help with translation.

The first meeting between the two took place on Novembver 23rd, 2014 on Top Rank’s show in Macao that saw Manny Pacquiao fight Chris Algieri. In that fight, the pedigreed Shiming won via wide judges scores of 120-103, 119-106, 119-106.
