Films About Rigondeaux, Heather Hardy to Highlight 3rd Shadow Box Film Fest in NYC

Films about Guillermo Rigondeaux, Heather Hardy to highlight 3rd Annual Shadow Box Film Festival

Festival hosted by the SVA on December 5 and 6

NYC-- Oct. 6, 2014 – The lives and boxing careers of Guillermo Rigondeaux and Heather Hardy will be on display at the 3rd annual Shadow Box Film Festival, the world's only film festival dedicated entirely to the sport of boxing.

"The feature documentaries about Rigondeaux and Hardy are two of the most compelling stories in the world of sports," said festival director David Schuster. "You think there is drama watching a fight? Don't miss these films. From Rigondeaux's gut-wrenching decision to leave to Cuba to Hardy balancing parenthood with her pursuit of winning a world title, these films won't disappoint."

The 3rd annual Shadow Box Film Festival takes place December 5 and 6 at the School of Visual Arts Theater at 333 West 23rd Street. This year's festival will feature 14 films. Among the others selections include:

    Feature documentaries:

"El Boxeo," directed by Alan Swyer

"From Poverty Bay to Broadway," directed by Lydia Monin

"A Fighting Heart: The Johnny Kilbane Story," directed by Des Kilbane

    "Hardy," directed by Natasha Verma

"Babyface goes to Hollywood: The Jimmy McLarnin Story," directed by Andrew Gallimore

"Split Decision: The Story of Guillermo Rigondeaux," directed by Brin-Jonathan Butler

"When the Bell Rings," directed by Brad Bores

"Last Woman Standing," directed by Juliet Lammers and Lorraine Price

Some of the selections in the short film category include:

"Greatness: The story of Floyd Patterson, "directed by Mark Anthony Dellas

"Round 10," directed by Guy Rowland and Louvens Remy

"The Champion," directed by Brett Garamella and Patrick McGowan

The story of McLarnin is Gallimore's third film to be screened at the Shadow Box Film Festival. Last year, he took home Best Foreign Film honors for his documentary about former heavyweight champion James J. Corbett.

"I've been to the first two festivals and I won't miss this event," said former WBO heavyweight champion Michael Bentt, who portrayed Sonny Liston in the film, "Ali." "“Boxing lends itself to such great drama and so much of it has been on display at this festival. I applaud the actors and directors who have continued to tell worthwhile stories based on the Sweet Science.”

Since its inception in 2012 through this year's event, the Shadow Box Film Festival will have showcased 68 films about boxing.
The films for the 2014 festival were shot or produced in sevencountries — Ireland, England, Canada, New Zealand, Cuba, United States and Sweden.

The three-year total of countries in which films were produced or submitted is now 13 -- Cuba, Thailand, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Ireland, England, Canada, United States, The Netherlands, Sweden, Iran and New Zealand.

I am looking forward to going this year. So I can talk about this on my Friday show on SiriusXM, do we have A) The hours the film festival can be viewed and B) the admission price.

I will be there on Saturday, December 6.

Is this the same film showing a bored and truculent Rigondeau smoking cigarettes and drinking a beer while seated on his penitentiary sized pateo musing disdainfully over what his life had became in the wake of his last Olympic games. A life talking about the good ol' days while contemplating his life of drudgery serving the communist state?

If it is .... Its a pretty good film...highly recommended.

Wow, sounds awesome. Shame this festival is so far away.
