This guy is like a 135-pound Joe Frazier. The bell rings and he is in your face.

I wonder howsuccessful he will be if he moves to 140?

I guess we'll find out in his next fight. Will he be facing a contender, former champ or a faded and shop-worn but still-tough and rugged veteran?

Figueroa needs to be matched very carefully to succeed going forward. He is very easy to hit and when opponents give him any kind of movement he struggles. Remember Jerry Belmontes seemingly outboxed Figueroa in April and thats the same Belmontes that has been dominated every other time he stepped up in class.

Figueroa won this fight but had Estrada remained focused on boxing and not slugging things could have been different.

Omar needs to be protected from himself. He will gladly eat 3 punches just to land his own to excite the fans. Although appreciated I want to see a healthy and old Omar, not a damaged one. I say give him 2 decent fights at 140 before putting him in there with a killer.
Also the Winning gloves seemed to allow him to hit through his target a little better with proper hand protection. Nothing is worse that a warrior who takes shots having the inability to fully shoot his back with conviction.

The young kid is exciting and selfless, I just dont want to see him hurt permanently.

Omar F. saved the card for me on Sat night. He closed the show like a champion is supposed to. He is kinda short for 140, maybe he can have a better diet or do more conditioning and stay at his current weight?

If he is with Al Haymon then he will get some easy opponents at 140. Santa Cruz is getting a joke fight (sparring match)and Garcia just got one, Broner vs Molina was a set up. So the blueprint is there.

    Possible future opponents at 140:

Ranked #35 or so . Darren Hamilton 14(3)-3(1)-0 Out of Bristol, Avon, United Kingdom. He is 35 years old but has a few decent wins on his ledger.

Ranked #79. Cosme Rivera 37(25)-18(5)-3 Out of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. 38 years old. He won his last two and is on a roll. He is a known name.

Ranked in the top 100 at #96. Tyrone Nurse 29(5)-1-0. Out of Huddersfield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. He is young with a very impressive record. Only 1 loss and only 5 wins By way of KO. A safe fight?

One fight that Haymon could look to make would be with Figueroa and the winner of John Molina-Humberto Soto. Both Molina and Soto fight are stylistically good matches for Figueora. Heck, with the strings Haymon is able to pull he may even find a way to make this for some kind of belt or interim belt.

I think before this guy takes another fight he needs to see a serious hand specialist. This is the 4th or 5th fight that he has said his hands were extremely swollen after the fight if not fractured or broken. He's an exciting fighter and gives people a very watchable fight but he already exposes his chin a little too much which could shorten his career to begin with. No need to add to that with brittle hands.
