You guys are virtual boxing trivia encyclopedias....great comments

This is a little off topic but I could have sworn that I saw Sugar Ray Robinson playing a bit part of a security guard in a Frank Sinatra classic the other day on late night cable. Does any one remember the name of that movie?

Don't forget Martin Lawrence, Mike Tyson (acted in Black & White), Victor Ortiz, Bernard Hopkins (while he wasn't in movies, he's the greatest actor of all), Antonio Tarver, David Haye (or is he just a wannabe?), Mickey Rourke, Tony Danza...

That's who I can think of.

Sly Stallone's brother, Frank Stallone, who is also a singer/actor, was a pretty decent amateur boxer. He even beat newscaster Geraldo Rivera in a Howard Stern-promoted event in the early 1990's in NYC.

He fought out of Cleveland, Ohio as a novice pug in 1919. You can find that in Wikipedia, which is not reliable. But boxing-scoop dot com is. Bob Hope said that he was a prizefighter which can be a "Catch 22." And back in 1919 -- like finally now -- amateur pugs got paid just as pros did, but not as much.

So the much older generation has/had a tendency to use "prize" and "professional" as euphemisms for just plain boxing -- amateur or pro. Holla!

Charles bronson! Not sure if he was a boxer but he was in great shape and had mongol ancestry to boot. That's always a plus right?
