    IBHOF Festivities Begin

Friday, 4:30 pm--Well, My wife & I arrived in Canastota after a nice drive from Long Island. We're gonna' freshen up, change, meet up with a few of the fighters and head over to the Rusty Rail Restaurant for the kickoff buffet dinner which has become an annual event. Then, it's off to the Turning Stone Casino for the card promoted by Mike Tyson Promotions.

I'll be back here later for a report of how things went.

    Wish you all were here.

I know Deepwater2 & oubobcat will be here. I look forward to talking with them.

Yeah here at the festivities, having the time of my life. Cell phone is on its last legs from all the pictures I have taken (met Al Bernstein at Dunkin Donuts and Mickey Ward in parking lot).At the fights now with my wife in section 104 row A (Ohio State shirt).

Commish and Deep, if I dont see you tonight will be around half a day tomorrow so will look for you then.

A wife? With all the time you spend on this website there is no way you have a wife oubobcat.

Yeh, tR...the wives we have are incredibly understanding. My wife is in my own personal Hall of Fame!

We did not go to the fights tonight because of the amount of interviews I have been doing and old friends I have been talking with. Seeing inductee/journalist Graham Houston was so much fun...and Michael Spinks...and John Ruiz...and Lucia Rijker...and Rosie Perez...and Al Bernstein.

The most amazing greeting I got was a guy who was one of my favorite fighters in the early '80's. At first, he was a scowling, angry contender who had no use for the media. Then, one snowy winter night in 1982, we got snowed in at the ESPN studios in Bristol, CT., during a blizzard. I looked at him and said, "I guess you're stuck with me!" He grumbled.

So, we talked. Well, at first, I talk. He continued to grumble. Finally, he spoke. He spoke some more. We wound up talking all night. From that night, Dwight Muhammad Qawi and I became good friends.

He dropped out of boxing soon after facing George Foreman. We lost touch. When we looked at each other tonight, we were ecstatic, jumping around like two school kids. Tomorrow, Gerry Cooney and I will sit down and do an interview with Dwight which we'll run on our show on Monday.

At tonight's dinner, in addition to the names above, I spoke with and/or interviewed Andre Ward, George Foreman, Pipino Cuevas, John Molina Sr., 2014 inductee Neil Leifer, Joe Calzaghe, Tito Trinidad, Marlon Starling, Carlos DeLeon, Ivan Calderon, Leon Spinks, Wilfredo Vazquez, Vito Antuofermo, Aaron Pryor, Juan LaPorte, Frank Tate, Carlos Ortiz and Glen Johnson.

I may be The Commish. I may be a journalist.

But tonight, all of us here are fans.

I'm just the luckiest of the whole bunch!

Yep, she did know before we got married how much I enjoyed the sport. That said, she certainly does put up with a lot. And even willingly made the trip to Canastota this week with me. Definitely the right person for me.
