I think Danny Garcia could be a wildcard. There were rumors he was working on scheduling a July defense which was to be his last at 140. But nothing has been set in stone yet.
Garcia has been lukewarm on a Mayweather fight. I think he wants it eventually but is in no hurry. He could just be holding his cards tight though.
I don't see Porter getting it. Good doctor, you are correct in that Floyd just had problems with that style and Porter is younger and probably a little stronger (came down a few years ago from 154) than Maidana. I think Floyd sidesteps him for the moment.
Keith Thurman? A long shot, maybe another wildcard. But still see him as a long shot.
So that leaves Maidana. The fight will be much easier to sell the general public this time around. The promotion can center on the fact that some had the first fight very close, maybe even had it for Maidana. And from Mayweather's perspective, he is probably confident that he has Maidana now figured out and can handle him a little more easily the second time around.
There arn't many options and it seems likely to be Maidana. My guess is if negotiations fall apart, Keith Thurman will be plan B (I just don't think Danny Garcia wants the fight right now).
Another question here is whether the fight will end up at the MGM or at Barclays. Ellerbe was very non-committal on the site. Wouldn't it be something to see Mayweather on the east coast and out of Vegas this time around.
