Lomachenko vs Walters Appears To Be Set

Lomachenko vs Walters –¬†Earlier today, WBO World Featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko took to social media to confirm his much rumored bout with Nicholas Walters.

Lomachenko vs Walters

Promoter Bob Arum has been working on this match-up for several months, and he recently spoke out about HBO’s lack of interest in the match-up. Boxingscene.com reported Arum’s comments “You see, I am trying to get it on HBO, well that remians to be seen. HBO is not the only fish in the sea. I want to get that fight shown. I want to move forward with that double-header and I am sure I’ll be able to”.

The double-header Arum is referring to also includes a Super Lightweight match-up between WBC titleholder Viktor Postol and Adrian Granados. Arum also mentioned Postol as a fighter not getting the attention of HBO and their executive, Peter Nelson.

Though Lomachenko’s Tweet does not give a specific date, but Arum is targetting April 30th in New York or Los Angeles.

Walters is 26-0-1 and he is a former WBA World Champion at Featherweight. He lost that belt on the scales, but the lone blemish on his record came in his last outing, as he fought Jason Sosa to a draw this past December.

Lomachenko is 5-1 in his short pro career, but he is one of the most decorated amateur fighters in history and the skill and technique have already shown themselves. Despite the low number of professional fights, he took the fast track and already holds the WBO World Featherweight title.

Arum appears to be leaning towards the Showtime Network to show this fight, as neither fighter is tied to HBO exclusively and Arum appears to have grown tired of resistance from HBO. More news to come on this one, to be sure, but if the match is finalized, it is a major super-fight of two of the world’s most talented pugilists.

It is going to be easy work for V-Lo when and if it happens. V-Lo has too many stealth weapons. The Rude Boy Walt just have a cannon. And it misses the target most of the time. V-Lo will conduct a clinic and win by near shutout. Holla!

I really dislike Lomachenko. Don't know why, I think it is cuz even though he is good, he still is a whiner who complains to the refs and just spends a lot of time complaining. In the amateurs a guy like him gets used to it and gets away with it, I guess, but in the pros it is just so annoying.

Wow! Hehehe! C'mon. M1, you are giving my boy a bad grade when he is just doing tricks of the trade, i.e., the GOAT Ali. Holla at the Ali-Wepner Scrap for instant. V-Lo just be helping the blind referee. Hehe! When I was a toddler, the GOAT Ali told me if you control the sight of the ref, "you are the boss, and will not suffer a loss." Holla!

-miguel1 :

LOL yep Fritzie Zivic said something along the lines of ALWAYS give the ref your back lol. I get it, but Im talknig about fights he has no trouble winning lol. He just whines for the sake of whining.

-stormcentre :

Still, this is a good fight. Can't remember how long Walters has been out of action though, and/or whether (or not) that's going to be a factor. :) :)

Your right. He had a draw in his last fight midway through last year some time, if I recall. Its been a while since the Donaire fight.

-stormcentre :

In my opinion; the Walters that fought Donaire would be a problem - at least for 3/4 of the fight - for Lomanchenko. Who have you got for Framption V Quigg, M1?

I thought he started whining after Salido was getting away with low blows and thus got away with the fight. Anyway, I like his style a lot. I haven't watched Walters so won't make a pick for now. As for the other head on the card, I believe Postol campaigns at super lightweight, not super welter as posted here.

-Shoulder Roll Defense :

Congrats to Loma for challenging himself. His last couple of fights were against Wal-Mart greeters. This is a solid matchup and Loma is a slight favorite in my book. The last time everyone counted Walters out (Donaire fight), he shocked many of you. He is capable of defeating Loma if he comes into the fight in shape and on his "A" game. This will be a good scrap if the fight actually comes to fruition.

Agreed, two top tier guys, this will be a great fight where I can see Loma maybe taking the last two rounds due to his activity and better skills to win the fight. Walters is no slouch, Loma will have to dig deep to get the win.

Hehehehe! You got jokes! Funny as heck! Classic! Imma have to steal it. WTF! "...were against Wal-Mart greeters." I've never even been to Wal-Mart. Does it have struggling-with-dough pugs there making ends meet by greeting customers? Holla!

-brownsugar :

Walters has outgrown the division. I dont care that much for Lomanchenko either (Miguel), but his talent can't be denied. And with the fight being 12 months past its expiration date , I don't think Walters can show the same form he did when he beat Donaire, prove me wrong Walters.

Your right on the weight, being corrected in the main article. Sorry, good catch.

I will own up to it, I wanted Quigg to get the win. After the fight I am more convinced than ever that he is the better technical fighter of the two, but he just could not bring that to bear.

-stormcentre :

Hey M1, Quigg may very well be better technically (I am not sure about that though, but appreciate your selfless honesty) but he was clearly more intimidated and hesitant than he led us to believe he would be. Frampton is pretty good too, but psychologically he dominated Scott; whom simply didn't have enough tools in the kit to create openings and work from them. Neither would survive with a fully prepared/determined Rigondeaux. Has the LSC V KM fight results come in yet? :) :)

-miguel1 :

They are on the Ceja vs Ruiz fight, round 2.

-stormcentre :

Cheers

-King Beef :

Loma/Walters should be a good toss up fight.

I will bet the cat house and the doghouse and my cousin's treehouse that V-Lo easily beats Walters. Holla!

-miguel1 :

you forgot the outhouse, the summer house and that pad in Amsterdam :)

Hehehe! You got jokes. What about the funhouse? Just don't give me the courthouse and the jailhouse. Maybe I can sneak in the whorehourse. Of course just to say hello to the working gals. Haha! Holla!

-miguel1 :

LOL there are some that claim this is a madhouse, or a gingerbread house, or even a house of cards. I was going to yell, but holla is your thing! :)

Can't pass up a good treehouse!! I don't know about easy, but I would not be surprised if Loma squeaks out a win.
