Malignaggi: “I Would Beat Pacquiao Right Now, So Imagine What Floyd Does To Him?”

Fighter/analyst Paul Malignaggi owns more pop in the verbal department than in the fistic one, it must be said. That’s no slam on his power quotient, but as a boxer he relies on guile, and speed, and timing and getting angles…but as a talker, oh yeah, that kid can bring it.

As he did a couple days ago, when he talked to Tha Boxing Voice website about a possible Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. “The Pacquiao people are so adamant about [Mayweather’s demands] because they know they won’t win the fight, and it won’t be competitive,” he told Tha Boxing Voice following the Barclays Center-HBO-Golden Boy fights Saturday, after stating that Pacman is the B side in the equation, and thus has no standing to call any negotiation shots.

I followed up with Paulie a couple days after that story came out, to see if there’s been any blowback on him for being so candid.

“Yeah, I did get blowback but it’s the way I feel,” he said. “Honestly, I would beat Manny Pacquiao right now, so imagine what Floyd does to him!?

“We are all entitled to our opinions, and at this point I feel I beat Manny Pacquiao too, so imagine if Floyd fights him. Keep in mind I’ve never come close to losing to any southpaw I’ve ever faced!”

The Pride of Bensonhurst, who will be calling fights for Showtime on Saturday night, told me he won’t be getting into his fistic future till after the holidays. He lost in his last outing, to Shawn Porter, but does it sound to you like this man is hanging up the gloves? Rhetorical question, friends…

You took the words out of my mouth !

Paulie better retire ,Porter did a number on him. Now that Paulie is on tsAH's payroll of course he will talk like this.

-Uriel Zinn :

Good joke! Paulie is a very funny dude.

"Da Manny would knock Paulie da double fudge out in four violent rounds! Holla!" says Radam G about this or any other possible Pacquiao opponent.

-michigan400 :

LOL!!! Paulie is a NUT!!!

-Radam G :

As I've said, Pauline -- I mean Paulie -- has always been jealous of Da Manny. If Paulie thought Shawn Porter gave him a severe beating. And that he -- Paulie -- then claimed that Porter is on roids because he was a Da Manny's sparring partner, Da Manny would permanently crippled Paulie. Pauline -- I mean Paulie again -- could not even stay with Tim Bradley. I bet that Bradley could kayo Paulie. And kayo him violently in two rounds or less -- not four -- tR. Hehehe! Paulie should stick with being a talking head, because as a fighter, he was just aight. A bit better than a double-bytch bum. Holla!

-moonshineman :

Paulie is a Joke. Pacquiao would give Paulie a severe beating.

-Carmine Cas :

Dude is tripping, delusions of grandeur; or he's just being paid to diminish Pacquiao. At one point I think he would be very competitive against Manny but at this point, physically Idk if he'd fair better than Algieri. IMHO.

-deepwater2 :

The best thing for everyone would be for Coach Roach to hire Paulie for a few rounds of sparring. Give Paulie $20,000, sign the release and lets really see what would happen in the ring. Its a win -win.

He believes what he's saying. Paulie is a straight shooter.

Paulie has been at the Wild card umpteen times, and would not spar with Da Manny. Paulie is just shooting da syet. He could not carry spit buckets for Da Manny. Holla!

Yup. Paulie is just talking junk. He has one foot out the door and won't think about boxing until after the holidays...but I can beat him right now! PM is a company man now.

-Radam G :

NO! NO! NO! He doesn't believe that. He has always had a hook up with his trainer Earl Brown to spar with Da Manny. But Pauline -- is his name really Paulie -- refused the work. Just the sight of Da Manny punkifies [$??] Paulie like a little frighten kitten. Paulie is a true bytch-arse hater. And true _____ _____ Money May's testes _____. Holla!

Yes, yes, yes. #YesYesYes! He hasn't wavered for five-six years. Also, Malignaggi almost signed to fight Pacquiao after Top Rank suspiciously ran from negotiations in Dec. '09/Jan. '10.

Nananadananana! Houston! We have a problem! Paulie never, ever came close to fighting or sparring with Da Manny. Paulie was lowly ranked during that time. In 08, he lost to Hatton by Buddy McGirt's "--I'm stopping it." Then in 09, Juan Diaz got a gift decision over him, then beat Diaz. DiBella Entertainment was handling him, and never was negotiating for him to fight Da Manny. But was negotiating for him to fight Amir Khan -- Manny's sparring partner, who beat up Paulie and stopped him. Sorry, my friend. But you are wrong BIG TIME about the history of Paulie and Da Manny. Paulie has never been in the class of Manny, Money May or Marquez. Matter of fact, Paulie has never been a A-side fighter. Just a B-minus side pug. The "A"s would not give Paulie the time of day. Holla!

-amayseng :

Paulie must be on the bath salts

Hey Paulie, you're showing an early sign of Alzheimer's. To refresh your memory go to boxrec.com and it will remind you what Ricky Hatton did to you. Never mind what Pacman did to Hatton as it might scare the sh*t out of you :)

He just won a journalism award for excellence in broadcasting. He's also one of the most respected announcers in sports. I enjoy his on-air commentary and insights. He adds a different dimension to a telecast and sublime knowledge. Other that that, he's entitled to have his opinion, no? Shouldn't make him a clown. I'm not sure I agree with his assessment but I do know that he knows the fight game better than 99% out there. For whatever it's worth, he also says Keith Thurman and Amir Khan both will beat Floyd Mayweather.

Mass murderers have won noble peace prizes, stop being so naive. Do you think he beats Pacquiao? Paulie is just running his gums because talk is cheap.

I enjoy his commentary, but this was straight up a DUMBASS statement.

What am I being naive about? My response was to him being clown, which I don't think is accurate. I backed up my statement by him being an award-winning broadcaster. Nothing naive about that, those are the facts. He's entitled to his opinion. Like I pointed out, he says both Thurman and Khan will beat Mayweather. I don't agree with that -- in fact, I think that's more outrageous than him beating Pacquiao -- but he knows his sh*t so who are we to call him clown and drug user etc.? I'm sure you would agree with that.

-The Shadow :

I enjoy his commentary, but this was straight up a DUMBASS statement.
Like I said in the post above, I don't agree with his second assessment either but I respect his knowledge. So I'm not going to call either one stupid.

-deepwater2 :

Paulie is eating and drinking in Vegas, while he has one foot out the door and is about to retire, and states that he would beat Pac right now! Not in Paulie's prime, not when he is in shape but right now, with a belly full of food and drink. That is very funny and entertaining. He is sounding funny and made me chuckle,he has worn some colorful funny get-ups with dyed red hair and braids, I think he has made people from all over the world chuckle with this statement.So.... If it sounds like a duck, walks like a duck...... its a clown.

-Pazuzu :

The look in Paulie's eyes in the photo tells the tale.
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. He looks completely deranged in the photo...which would explain the Pacqauio comment. Still, Paulie's a great color commentator on Showtime. If only I could mute Mauro Ranallo...

-stormcentre :

Lot's of love here for Paulie. I think the Paulie that (perhaps just) went the distance with Cotto may just see round 12 with the current version of Pacquaio. But there's a lot of emphasis on that "may" and it's in italics, and none of it applies to "now" in the context of Paulie's abilities. Aside from his brief bout of (let's call it) verbal diarrhea, I usually respect and like Paulie's insights and commentary. I am sure he has read this thread and will adjust accordingly in the future. Paulie; you know who I am.

-The Shadow :

He looks that way because he's fired up. Watch the whole thing, they're talking about Abu Dhabi and he's completely calm. He said it because he feels it, not because he's deranged.

-The Commish :

You're so right. There's nothing deranged about Paulie. He's always been outspoken and is just stating what he believes. As for him beating Manny Pacquiao, I seriously doubt that would happen. But I also seriously doubt Pacquiao would, knock him the double fudge (love that expression, Radam!) out. If Pacquiao failed to knock out Chris Algieri, he will not knock out--double fudge or any other toppings--Malignaggi. Outpoint him? Yes! Knock him out? No way! -Randy G.

-Radam G :

Wow! It doesn't look nice for Pauline -- I mean Paulie. He is losing a lot of respect with his off-the-wall hatred of Da Manny. Paulie can dance with one of Da Man y's latest sparringmates. Perhaps Mike Brown. Mike Brown would kayo Pauline -- I mean Paulie -- as Da Manny's ex-sparringmates Amir Khan and "Showtime" Shawn Porter did. This magazine has illustrated Paulie as the king of syet headiness:
->http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Benz/Benz-1212a14.htm. He cannot beat sparringmates, but he claims that he will beat the real dawg. Paulie! PLEASE! Dementia is chasing you, or you still have a bad concussion from Porter blasting your arse out. Holla!

Da Manny's sparringmate Mike Brown would knock Paulie da double fudge out with cherry on top. Put him to like Sleeping Beauty. You will need a girl frog to awake his deranged-looking bottom. And Paulie is no C-Al. The referee should have halted Da Manny-C-Al Bout in the 10th round. C-Al took unnecesary shots. And he lost by the biggest score in history. He looked worst than worst than that other soft-chin New Yorker, the late Floyd Patterson. Holla!

-deepwater2 :

Chris A vs Paulie M? A few years back it would be Paulie all the way, right now?........

-brownsugar :

He looks that way because he's fired up. Watch the whole thing, they're talking about Abu Dhabi and he's completely calm. He said it because he feels it, not because he's deranged.
You're right Shadow.... Paulie brings a wealth of well informed commentary and youthful exuberance to his job announcing boxing as well as connecting with the younger viewers. Its even been said Paulie is the Pied Piper of sorts for a whole new generation of fans who are watching fights for the first time. Still,.....I expect the file photo used for this article was specifically chosen to go with the subject matter. The wild look in Paulie's eyes is reminiscent of someone under the influence of LSD(acid) Definitely a set up for some unsavory comments...( I couldn't help myself ) forgive me. But you have to admit... It's a little funny when you match the photo with the topic. And definitely serves as bait for some flaming replies.

-SouthPawFlo :

First off, I don't think Paulie M. And manny is even a debate, Manny wins that easily.... But as a fighter myself I understand that you're trained to believe you can beat anyone, would you really expect Paulie to say that Manny can beat him??? In order to be a fighter and a two time world champ like Paulie was, you've gotta have a certain level of confidence, even if it's "foolish" at times..... Paulie the analyst knows he wouldn't pick Paulie the fighter against Pacman
