Ron Borges, general sports columnist at the Boston Herald, has been named Massachusetts Sportswriter of the Year four times. He is a past winner of the Fleischer Award for excellence in boxing writing and has appeared on both national and international fight broadcasts as an expert analyst. He has won more writing awards and finished first more often than any writer in the country in the 10-year old Boxing Writers Association of America writing contest. He is one of only two writers never to have failed to win at least one award in that annual contest. He was the original columnist on HBO's boxing website and is also a regular contributor to Boxing Monthly. His love of boxing dates back to watching The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports' Friday Night Fights with his father and brother on an old black and white TV.
