What Counts At the advanced age of 29, pound-for-pound king “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather Jr., flush off his one-sided victory over the game but outclassed Carlos Baldomir, announced after the bout, “I am not in this sport for the money. I am in it for the legacy, and I have done everything I wanted to do... I don't need boxing anymore and I don't need money anymore." But there’s enough fight in PBF for one more bout, presumably the mega-bout to beat all mega-bouts against Oscar De La Hoya. That much talked about per-per-view extravaganza was supposed to be the passing of the torch. If we’re to take Floyd at his word, it will be the blowing out of the torch. Maybe because his hand felt broken, it clouded his mind; maybe because he thinks he’s peaked, and from now on it will be down and eventually out; maybe because other opportunities beckon, maybe less lucrative than boxing in the short-term, but in the long-term it’s a whole new ballgame. Should we take Floyd Mayweather’s claim seriously? Will he retire after his next fight? |

Witter A Slapper, A Flapper (A Career In The Crapper?)
"Another upset! I keep making the right bet. I never thought for a moment that Witter was a good boxer or a hitter. He is just another slapper and a big-mouth flapper. In the hurt business, no word can hit you like a fist. He got knocked on his butt, and his words didn't cushion his fall. Hopefully, he will now shut up. More of today's boxers should learn the art of hurting, and cut out all this garbage of hyping. All the sightings of "Big Foot" and "UFOs" have been delusions, but these sightings of upsets in 2008 boxing are hard realities." ---TSS reader Radam is lovin' the upsets
