Ron Borges ... at The Sweet Science
Ron Borges grew up watching the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports Friday Night fights with his Dad and brother when TVs were black and white and only three channels existed. By 16 he realized, sadly, that Sugar Ray Robinson, even in his dotage, had little to worry from him and turned to other sports but never lost his love of the Sweet Science.
For the past 30 years Borges has covered boxing, first for newspapers in Sacramento and Oakland, CA. and for 25 years in the pages of the Boston Globe. He is a winner of the Nat Flesicher Award for Excellence in boxing journalism and has won a dozen writing awards in the annual Boxing Writers Association of America’s annual competition. He is also been named Massachusetts Sportswriter of the Year five times by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. He currently writes regularly for TheSweetScience.com, the British magazine Boxing Monthly, HBO.com, Pro Football Weekly, serves as a blow-by-blow commentator on Prime Time Fights and is a regular panelist on the Comcast Network’s nightly “Out of Bounds’’ television show. His work can also be found on his website, ronborges.com.
