Boxing World Is Disrespecting Mosley

By David A. Avila

Sugar Shane Mosley recently sent out a memo to the press about the basic disrespect he’s been shown by one and all in the boxing world.

He has a point.

Not to disparage the great Manny Pacquiao on his easy victory, he did take some shots. And not to denigrate the career and talent of Floyd Mayweather, he is undefeated. But how can anyone think Mayweather is a cinch to beat Mosley on May 1, in Las Vegas?

The one-sided thinking of promoters, trainers, television analysts, fans and even Pacquiao himself mouthing their wishes for a Mayweather fight is downright short-sighted. Does everyone truly think Money Mayweather is that much better than Mosley?

Only the blind and easily fooled thought Clottey had a slim chance of beating the speedy Pacquiao. The Filipino fired combinations at will and Clottey covered up like a Midwestern family in a basement during a storm of twisters. That won’t happen when Mosley fights Mayweather.

“Most people think I’m just a strong puncher and a brawler,” said Mosley, 38, who is the WBA welterweight titleholder since knocking out Antonio Margarito a year ago in Los Angeles. “People forget I’m a master boxer too.”

Many believe that Mayweather’s defensive boxing prowess and athletic ability will be too much for Mosley to overcome. Odds makers tab the undefeated Mayweather a 4-1 favorite.

“There are five ways to beat Shane Mosley,” said Mayweather, 33, alluding to Mosley’s five career losses. “He could have fought me 10 years ago and had a chance.”

Odds don’t always tell the real story.

Undefeated fighters aren’t necessarily indicative of perfection or invulnerability. History’s best recognized prizefighters all have losses. From Sugar Ray Robinson to Jack Dempsey to Willie Pep and Muhammad Ali, all are considered among the greatest prizefighters the world has ever seen. All sustained losses.

“If you don’t have a loss it means you just haven’t fought everybody,” said trainer Roger Mayweather himself two years ago. “In the old days everybody fought everybody.”

When Ali fought Foreman he was a huge underdog. Some had Foreman a 12-1 favorite after he easily demolished Joe Frazier and Ken Norton who both gave Ali fits when they met. But in 1974, it was Ali who found the antidote for Foreman’s seemingly invincibility. Ali won by knockout in the eighth.

Need another example?

Let’s go to the lower weight classes. Back in 1951, the great Sugar Ray Robinson traveled to London, England to defend his middleweight world championship against little known Randy Turpin. Robinson (128-1-2) hadn’t lost a fight in eight years and was thought to be a cinch after 88 fights without a loss. Turpin (42-2) had a great record but was thought to be out of his depth against the God-like powers of Robinson. That night Turpin’s unorthodox style confused and bewildered Robinson who sailed back home without the world title belt. A return match two months later saw Robinson knock out Turpin in New York City, but he still had problems with the British boxer.

Boxing is not a simple matter of who is faster or who is stronger. Nor is it about who is more experienced or younger.

“It comes down to who has the better skills,” said Mosley, adding that speed and power are not skills but God-given.

The euphoria of Pacquiao’s victory combined with the missed opportunity to fight Mayweather due to his demands for a blood test may have blinded all sides to the truth about the big showdown between Mosley and Mayweather.

It’s not going to be easy for either fighter.

“If you know me then you know I always get up for big fights,” Mosley said. “That’s what motivates me.”

Fights on television

Sat. HBO, Wladimir Klitschko (53-3) vs. Eddie Chambers (35-1).

Sat. Fox, 7 p.m., Odlanier Solis (15-0) vs. Carl Drummond (26-2).

The Watcher:  MANNY VS. MAYWEATHER WOULD BE A BORING FIGHT, MANNY NEEDS SOMEONE TO GO AFTER HIM AND FLOYD ISN'T THE TYPE OF FIGHTER TO DO THIS. SUGAR IS THE MAN THAT WILL MAKE BOTH FLOYD AND MANNY FIGHT AND I THINK THAT HE IS ALSO THE MAN TO BEAT FLOYD AND STOP MANNY. HE WILL FORCE FLOYD TO FIGHT AND IS JUST BIGGER, STRONGER MAYBE EVEN FASTER THEN MANNY. SUGAR BY DECISION OVER FLOYD AND KNOCK OUT OVER MANNY... BELIEVE THAT!!!!

El Maromero:  Mosley has a better chance of beating Floyd than any opponent in Mayweather's career. We all think about how defensive Mayweather is and it seems like it overshadows his offense way too much. Im surre that Mosley is going to hit Floyd with good shots but if Floyd survives the first half then he should impose his stamina and speed combined with high accuracy on Mosley. I see Floyd as a second half fighter, he measures his opponent while on the run the first few rounds then he begins to throw clean shots more often later on.Mosley will have to remain focused even if he has trouble hitting Floyd from the start. He can't look desperate cause Floyd takes advantage of desperate fighters. Mosley, in my opinion has a bigger chance of beating Manny than he does of Floyd cause of his toe to toe style

mortcola@Avila:  The large majority of people I know in the game think Mosley is at worst a live underdog, and at best the favorite based on his toughness, intelligence, skill, and experience at handling and leading a firefight. I don't think he's being disrespected all that much; only the bright lights of the Pac-Mayweather controversy overshadow him.

Isaiah:  How is there 5 ways to beat Mosley? Forrest and Wright were very good boxers who just happened to have Mosley's number and they beat him with the same styles they always use not to mention Wright is naturally quite a bit larger. After all, could anyone see Shane Mosley fighting as a middleweight? Case in point. By the way, the rematches were very close. Sugar Shane DOES learn from what he does wrong. As for the Cotto loss, please! That was a very good fight were both men did very well and the score could have went either way within a point or 2. Move on. Does someone really think that if Cotto and Mosley fought eachother a few more times that Cotto would win no matter what each time? Mayweather is about freakin retarded. As "Paulie" said in the bar scene in Rocky 5, "knock this bum's teeth out!" I for one am not putting down Shane in the slightest because he has the perfect style to beat Floyd and Shane has EARNED my respect unlike Honey Sissy Boy Fraud Mayrunner! Think about it. Shane has power, enough aggression to swarm Floyd, very good boxing skills to deflect Floyd's swats and enough heart and chin to make it through anything Floyd will offer in retalliation, which by the way, won't be much from the coward! LOL! Sugar Shane by UD because the truth is the truth! ALL the all time greats have losses! (With the exception of Rocky Marciano and Ricardo Lopez of course.) You Floyd lovers are about to have your hearts stopped and your worlds crushed when you beat down your money whore recieves! Karma sucks doesn't it!

Fe'Roz :  Win or lose, I have never underestimated Shane Mosely. Nor will I.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 12:33:18 AM
Hinduw:  Did he take steroids? yes Do we have a right to treat others the way they want to be treated? yes my thing is, i dont care who you are...if you took steroids, retire or otherwise every win you get is a lie, and you are fair game for critisizm, even if its not about steroids.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 12:36:48 AM
darkInside:  i don't think pacman disrespect mosley.. he said that he's ready to fight mayweather but he also said that mayweather need to go through mosley first.. and says he'd be willing to trade puches with mosley too.. and he already picked mosley to win the fight over mayweather when asked before his fight with clottey..
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 01:16:27 AM
jackbw9:  All that everybody remembers is how he knocked out Margarito. But.... 1. He couldn't outbox Mayorga. 2. He couldn't outbox Mayorga. 3. He couldn't outbox Mayorga.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 01:32:04 AM
zdrx:  i think mosely is hurting. the talk around welter neighborhood is about pacman, josh and floyd also amir and paulie. no one mentions mosely in the equation, as if he doesn't exist. what has he done to deserve such treatment ? tsk tsk tsk...poor shane no sweet sugar. LOL
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 01:32:11 AM
Paclander:  HEY!!! PAQUIAO BELIEVE MOSLEY WILL WIN THE FIGHT AND HE SAID THAT BEFORE FLOYD WILL TAKE HIM HE MUST PASSED AGAINST MOSLEY AND IF HE WILL NOT HE SAID IT'S MORE EASIER FOR HIM TO MAKE THE FIGHT WITH MOSLEY WITHOUT MANY REQUESTS.... PACQUIAO NEVER DISRESPECT ANYBOXER INCLUDING MOSLEY SO DON'T INCLUDE PAQUIAO IN HERE!!!!!
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 02:07:20 AM
gino:  I believe in mosley. I also believe that pacquiao is the greatest fighter. I believe that mayweather is a xylocaine user.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 02:16:51 AM
SALTY:  IN FAIRNESS TO PAC,AM, he did say that if Mosley wins, he will fight Mosley so he has not disrespected him. Pacman also said Mayweather should first take care of his business. In any event, it is correct to say that a lot of people has disrespected Mosley by assuming Mayweather can easily dispose of Mosley. Remember, Mayweather did not take this fight, he was forced because Pacman did not bow to Mayweather's stupidity. Mayweather will eat the hardest punches of his lifetime. While Mayweather can only slap, pinch and grope Mosley because of his brittle hands, Mosley will fire bombs. PaCman-Mosley more explosive!
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 02:17:58 AM
Isaiah:  I want to address a point or 2 being made. First off, who is not mentioning Mosley at welterweight? He is a very vital part of any discussion of 147 supremacy and plus this website has had several articles mentioning him. Joshua Clottey just got beat up so the only mention of him right now is how he was still standing after that beat down Pacquiao put on him. Right at this moment the 147 weight class basically revolves around Mosley, Pacquiao and Mayweather. Who wants to see Amir Khan or even worse, Paulie Malignaggi at this high of a weight? That makes no sense. @zdrx. If no one mentions Mosley, why is this article about him? Why are you mentioning him? Why is ranked in the top 3 not only on everyone's welterweight list, but everyone's pound for pound list as well. If not top 3 on the P4P, then top 5 at worst. People should give this man WAY more respect. You're going to miss him when he's gone, same for Pacquiao. Floyd Mayweather can leave anytime she, oops, I mean he wants. I won't give a rat's fart when he retires for real except to celebrate.

Samjoy:  I'll put my bet to Shane Mosley... by UD
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 02:30:27 AM
Jimbo:  Your assertion that Manny Pacquiao disrespects Mosley for "mouthing his wishes" to fight Mayweather is inaccurate. In the interview right after the fight with Clottey Manny said Mayweather has to beat Mosley first or he will fight the latter. In fact in an earlier interview leading to the Clottey fight Manny predicted a Mosley win over Mayweather. In my opinion, if there is any reason why Manny would prefer to fight Mayweather than Mosley, he wants to punish Mayweather "in the field of battle" for his unsubstantiated accusation that Manny is on PED, ruining his reputation. It ain't a surprise. That's the typical Filipino character to exact justice. The fight on May 1, at its inception, is fueled with rumors that the same fight is fixed. For many years Mayweather issued excuses after excuses for not fighting Mosley and all of a sudden this. Granted that Mayweather was driven into a corner after the mega fight with Pacquiao collapsed due to his insistence of a more stringent testing but one wonders is this fight for real, really? GBP has a conflict of interest in this fight. Or so it seems. Mosley is not only a boxer under the GBP banner but is also its executive. In the same breath GBP represents FMJ, although the latter is not a GBP fighter. Will GBP protect Mosley more than it will favor Floyd in case of shenanigans from Floyd? Remember the Floyd Marquez fight.? It's the same situation. Did GBP vehemently protested when Floyd came to the fight over the agreed weight limit? The answer is no. It is because Floyd is their "Cash Cow". They fed Marquez to the lions so much so that the latter's trainer Nacho, said that GBP has taken advantage of Marquez. If this fight is legit, and I certainly hope so, I predict a Mosley win by a late stoppage.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 02:48:26 AM
OrlyS:  Mosley will beat Mayweather on May 1, 2010. That will set-up a fight versus Manny Pacquiao for the best P4P title at stake. That will definitely be more realistic than Manny fighting Mayweather. If Mayweather wins versus Mosley, it will be impossible to have a match with Pacquiao as Mayweather will have his head high up his a** he'll have crazy demands for a fight with the Pacman. Better for the boxing fans for Mosley to win versus Mayweather, we can have a superfight sometime late this year. If Mayweather wins, we'll have to endure his BS all-over again.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 03:04:47 AM
Bennet:  This fight will just decide who PACMAN will beat-up next ... fight between two second-rate fighters ...no disrespect to Shane and Mayweather ... people are just mentioning Mayweather because they want Manny to beat him up more than people want Shane to be beaten up by Manny - so it's actually an honor for Shane not to be mentioned as the next one to be chop liver for PACMONSTER
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 03:27:21 AM
in touch:  If Mosley wants to be a major discussion for welterweights, beat Mayweather. Everyone will talk about u. At the end of the day, it comes down to winning. Beat the man to be the man.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 03:52:18 AM
bonyam:  Mosely for his part does not command popular respect for one reason or another, but no one can 100% predict that he never will. Mosely, it's a free world thou shall walk the stars if thou darest... and meets your true destiny...So the take is on you bottom line, but thank you for your belief and good luck to you...don't ever doubt anything is possible, impossible is nothing, get floyed in round 1 if you will and the fandom will open their eyes at last...so don't let temptations of cheap talk dilute your conviction in anyway... let the momentum of your own joy carry you and truely enjoy the ride, there is plenty of room in the department of joy- just look at pacman------------- if yang can cook so can you!
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 03:59:17 AM
tony:  I have a sick feeling that Mosley will prevail. Mosley will be the more aggressive fighter and the only way Floyd will win is to engage Mosley which I doubt. If Floyd doesn't KO Mosley, it will be Mosley to win by points. You think Mayweather will KO Mosley? Nahhhhhh. You think Mayweather will engage Mosley on a one-on-one fight? Nahhh. Mosley by Split or Unanimous Decision.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 04:08:22 AM
Master boxer:  Floyd is a slick boxer at lower wt division but at welterwt. He is not,let me make a case, both had a common de la hoya.anybody who will say that floyd win more convincing than mosley is simply a floydfanatic and are making analysis in the wrong direction.what dela hoya miss in that fight is he didnt sustain the attack to floyd but only for a couple of round that showed floyd's weakness.against mosley it will be a different story coz mosley is one hell of a boxer known for attacking relentlessly as shown in margarito fight.mosley knew the way to win only by increasing his punch output reminiscent of pac's win over clottey.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 04:14:51 AM
KFC:  I really want Mosley to knock-out Floyd! I want that trash-talker to sleep in the canvass and send to the hospital afterwards. The whole world for sure would be cheering so loud. Floyd then should retire forever in boxing and shift to Track and Field, Floyd's $40M blood test contest will be gone forever then, that's fun!! I want to see a real boxing contest not Floyd's $25M BS blood test and running inside the ring. Pacman-Mosley is more exciting fight. I want to see it rather than Pacquiao-Mayweather.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 04:17:55 AM
doubletangoromeo:  SSM is an elite welterwght boxer, and nobody is disrespecting him for that or for his achievements, however his past cannot be easily disregarded or forgotten, that my friends is why he is overlooked because of the monkey on his back...needless to say he has to resurrect himself everytime he climbs in the ring, and that may happen to manny paquiao if he engages in illegal substances...he will be a disgraced hero of my country!
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 04:23:51 AM
LuCas:  If I am Shane I would rather train hard and shock the world by beating Floyd to the max same as what happened to Margarito.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 04:34:43 AM
the KING:  I think, Manny Pacquaio did not said that Mayweather will win against Mosley. He even predicted Mosley to win via KO against that self proclaimed best boxer, Floyd. When HBO interviewed Pacquaio, he clearly stated there that "I want to fight Floyd, the fans wants that fight, I don't know if he wants to fight me. He must win against Mosley because if Mosley wins their fight, I'll be fighting Mosley next." No body is disrespecting Mosley, but frankly speaking, Mosley is already a ripe mango which Mayweather is planning to pick. He is aging, and I guess, he is not the type of man who can defy AGE.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 04:54:49 AM
Cabby:  4-1? That is a very insulting boxing appraisal. Here's Mosley who was also undefeated when he was fighting in his regular weight; had to go up to welterweight and even middleweight, just to get a fight. He was always shorter and smaller than the rest of his opponents in the higher weights. Yes, he was beaten by Winky Wright, a middle weight, but Mosley beat de la Hoya and Margarito. Understimating the ability of Mosley is almost the norm of many boxing writers and boxing fans. I still believe that Mosley will beat Floyd.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 05:03:38 AM
MG:  Mr. Mosley - may the force be with you. You have the goods to beat the crap out of Big Mouth FMJ. Doing so will guarantee you the biggest payday of your life and a mega super exciting fight with Pacman. Go for it Mr. Mosely and do us proud.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 05:07:52 AM
ernanskie:  i personally believe mosley will destroy floyds 0 loss no matter what. floyds skill hasnt been tested in real tough fights. this is the first one. if you think floyds previous opponents are good, check mosley out man! he has speed, has power, has great chin and has wide experience. i dont think age will get him slow after watching knocking down margarito which all thought he wont... id vote for mosley beating floyd may 1. mosley, not that media disrespects you, its just the present celebrated win of manny covered the world at this moment and floyds face keep appearing as mannys next opponent. so if you want to really really get the big attention, beat floyd this may 1 and the world will rejoice with you and you get your mega fight with manny pacquiao. BEAT FLOYD, SHANE! beat floyds ass.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 06:09:14 AM
gratide:  I think Shane has a good chance to beat the arrogant kid .PBF has been readng his own press clippings and forgets what a a great fighter Mosely is and all the greats he has fought ( not ducked). I agree with Tony , Mayweather will not knock out Sugar . He will lose the fight due to failure to be agressive , Pac man fights SUGAR and Fearweather gets the winner .
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 06:14:33 AM
blue4cor:  24 rounds of boxing proves Mosley lacks punching power when he fought De la Hoya twice there were no knock downs. Another proof that Mosley lacks power in his fists is when Cotto left himself wide open most of the time, Mosley is tagging Cotto a lot with good shots but can not knock him down.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 06:51:07 AM
braz:  lol mosley himself duck clottey.. research it.. they were on negotiations.. but apparently shane is concerned with clotteys weight and being too strong.. youtube it and shane himself said it
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 07:04:13 AM
mekiko:  by the way.. COTTO beat MOSLEY... pac has beaten cotto and clottey in a dominating fashion... 2 big welterweights floyd doesnt want any part... and 1 guy who has beat mosley and 1 guy mosley duck....nuff said

isaiah is right:  dude is right on. winky was a big mw, vernon was solid and the only loss for shane in the amateurs. shane took on those challenges even after losing. i am a cotto fan, but i had it 7-5 rounds for shane. shane beats a pot shotting floyd mayweather in a ud and easily knocks out pac
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 08:20:51 AM
Dezzie:  This is great news. If SSM feels that he is not geting the respect he deserves, there`s only one way for him to earn it. He HAS to knock out PBF. He will come into this fight as the underdog and with a world of things to prove. 4-1 odds are rediculous. Shane has a great chance to win, and even moreso because he has not been geting what he deserves. Go, Shane,GOOOOOO!
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 08:27:29 AM
stan:  ISAIAH: My man! All you was singing is 8h records. This is boxing not yo personnal feeling about Floyd. Shane is good frighter he had his chance.. its time to it go!.. move on..this Shane big pay day. Boxing PPV is made of name, drama, fans, entertainment and money.. (Pac vs May) they making plans for that fight already..that's like $400 millions son! . THE ROAD LEADS TO MONEY MAY. Not a 8h just fact.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 08:46:08 AM
The Watcher:  Hey Mekiko, sorry to tell you but the world doesn't work like that. Just because one guy beats another doesn't he can beat everyone else. Cotto was a differant fighter when he four Mosely, Mannu got a faded Cotto who everyone was saying had not much left. The Ring Magazine had put out an article saying is Cotto done when they were speaking of his proposed bout with Manny. When Sugar fought Goldie Oscar was at his prime, when Manny got to him he was another guy that they were saying should be retiring also. Come on, Oscar was left bruised and battered against Steve Forbes. What I am getting at is that Manny had had his opponents picked when they were at the end of their careers, Sugar has fought the best when they were almost or at the top. Styles make fights and a Manny Vs. Floyd fight will be boring should it happen, Manny needs an agressive fighter to chase him, Floyd isn't and will be to defensive punching one at a time for most of the bout. It will go the distance and Manny would win by UD because he will be busier. Sugar however will make Floyd fight and this is a much more exciting fight. This will be a pickem fight because Floyd will shine when he has an aggressive fighter in front of him. I think Sugar will prevail and in the end will stop Manny in his tracks.

Rover The Retriever:  Does Steroid Shane get to juice up before the Floyd fight?
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 09:00:59 AM
isidro:  Mosley is feeling the loneliness as a challenger to Mayweather Jr.Don't feel it Shane, hit it,and hit hard on May 1 to remove what is hype and what is real.People are less attentive on you,but respects will never fade just like that, not in a moment. The real Shane mosley will beat Floyd any time ,any where. But a warning,Clottey not only use this line of reassuring people about a good fight from him,now it won't be as effective than the dominating the fight and knockout "icing on the cake" would be a relief.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 09:13:43 AM
Rx the Drug-ged Man:  ROGER MAYWEATHER SAYS : “If you don’t have a loss it means you just haven’t fought everybody,” said trainer Roger Mayweather himself two years ago. “In the old days everybody fought everybody.” Therefore Floyd juniors "zero" is expected to be joined soon by a "one" or "two" depending on how steroidman Mosley can make good on his brag.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 09:20:35 AM
bill major:  im saying it again, mosely will beat mayweather on may 1. he is the best mayweather ever fought at this point as far as im concerned.its a big mistakeon floyds part, shoulda stuck with pacquiao,he had a shot there.....matter of fact if floyd wins ill come back here ansd kiss his ass. thats how sure i am .
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 09:22:55 AM
Radam G:  Hmm! I don't know what the genie Naazim is up to, but Money May, if all things are fair, is going to tear Sugar Shane apart. The darn genie has Mosley under the genie protection plan. That jive is stronger to crack than the witness protection plan. As of today, IMO, Money May wins easily. I just hope that the judges are geniefied by that old darn genie. Holla!
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 09:42:07 AM
vtownboxingfan:  Let's face it Mosley is 38 yrs old & Mayweather is 33 that is a big age difference in boxing, most fighters retire by the time they are 35 ... Mayweather picked a good time to fight him.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 10:14:19 AM
Ryan M.:  i'm an avid fan of the pac-man. but for this fight between the fighters.. i can see mosley winning by points. this will be another history about experience vs. fighting ethics plus loud mouth of MW. this will actually test mayweathers agility and strength. if he looses to mosley believe me. he will chaSe pac-man in any ways and means. but for now i'll go with mosley..
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 10:27:33 AM
The Saint:  Nobody is disrespecting Mosley for what he is capable of doing when he was at his best, but he hasn't looked good in several fights prior to Margarito. Inactivity and age are the key ingredients to disaster. Furthermore, nothing makes an old fighter act his age more than a slick opponent. Even a shell of Holyfield looked decent against Hasim Rahman but Chris Byrd made him look like he's 50. Against stationary Lou Savarese Holyfield managed to make believers of even a handful of the boxing pundits, but against a mobile Ibragimov he looked like he was 60, but then against Valuev, Holyfield looked rejunevated. You get the picture. Mosley looked great against Margarito who is only slightly faster than Mt Rushmore, but against Floyd he's most likely going to look like he's 45 years old. What makes Mosley a "live underdog" are his credentials. We've seen him rise to the occasion in the past against formiddable foes and there's a chance that we'd see him do it again. But that would take a small miracle. What's most likely to happen is for Mosley to plod around the ring all night long getting beat to the punch and smiling the entire time.

MisterLee:  Mosley Boma Ye!!! Fo' sho!
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 10:49:47 AM
csibond:  Mosley beats Mayweather.. then we are going to see the real fight.. Pacquiao vs Mosley that will become one of the all the time greatest fights.. though i believe pacquiao has a slight edge on this fight.. i believe pacquiao can KO mosley judging solely from his style to fight toe to toe... thats where pacquiao can hit surprising counters that can possibly knock out mosley or if not dramatically change the outcome of the fight...
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 11:20:07 AM
wooneroo:  IT'S REALLY DIFFICULT TO GAIN BACK RESPECT WHEN IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT MOSLEY IS A CERTIFIED BOOSTER USER!! HE COULD BE BACK IN HIS RANKS IF HE WINS HIS FIGHT AGAINST THE TRASH TALKER JR, AND THEN SQUARE OFF WITH THE CURRENT PINOY WORLD CHAMP THE PAC!! WIN OR LOSE HE WOULD REGAIN THE RESPECT HE NEEDS!!
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 11:35:55 AM
master:  actually... i want mosley to be the first one to beat mayweather... because i think mosley has a chance of beating may... because a fight between him and pacquiao will be the biggest fight in 2010 but maybe in this new decade!
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 01:19:42 PM
Ed C.:  Im a BIG boxing fan and I would like to see Mosely vs. Pacquiao. This would be a Brawl. Alot of offense and excitement. Mosley will be the toughest fight for Mweahter and Mweather will go down.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 01:34:25 PM
chakyun:  It seems you didn´t hear, see or read what Pacquiao said in many of his recent interviews. He said he actually thinks, Mosley will win over Mayweather. And he even said that it might be Mosley whom he will fight if Mayweather doesn´t want to fight him. But Pacquiao wants still a fight with Mayweather even he looses or wins over Mosley, because of his irritation with his father Mayweather senior and his brothers. He really wanted to punch Mayweathes lovely face to get even.
Thursday Mar 18, 2010 01:55:40 PM
Kid Dynamite:  I would not give Mayweather that much credit in beating Mosley. Although Mosley is 38 years old he is no walk through the park. I'm actually surprised Mayweather agreed to fight him considering how after Mosley got into his face after the Marquez fight, Mayweather didn't seem interested. This fight is more 50/50 than a 3-1 for Mayweather. Mosley is almost as fast as Mayweather but with more power. Whoever wins this should face Pacquiao. Or better yet, Pacquiao should fight both fighters. He will defeat both men one by one. If that doesn't classify Manny as one of the all-time-greats then I don't know what else will.

sonny boy:  I respect Mr. Shane Mosley now. After his fight with KFC Floyd Mayfeather, he is going to be my idol because he will give KFC Floyd his ist ever defeat. How sweet it is to be Sugar Shane Mosley.

Mansterrr:  I'm a believer of Mosley. I really hope that he'll send Floyd's arrogance to the moon. This way, Manny and Shane will give the boxing fans a great fight to look forward to. Then we can all forget all the B.S. that the Mayweathers brought to the boxing world.

Eastar:  Pacroid is afraid of Mosley and Mayweather. Real talk.

ali @ Isaiah:  Let e ask u somethen when u say Floyed Mayrunner do u mean the way he fights or who he picks to fight.

amugo:  manny will murder mosley, floyd would be tougher to ko cos of his defense but pacman will win by loop sided points victory...
Friday Mar 19, 2010 12:30:36 AM
Isaiah @ ali:  As far as the "runner" comment goes man, I think that covers both areas you mention. You know Floyd was forced here to fight Mosley so I stand by my statement.
Friday Mar 19, 2010 12:41:55 AM
ali @ Isaiah:  I bet u didn't call sweet pea a runnen when he fought not who he fought but when he fought I bet u didn't call Willie Pep a runner.... Just because u fight backing up doesn't make up a runner when u fight backing up and really never throw a punch like Bruce Seldon or Micheal Spinks vs Iron Mike thats a runner Mayweather has never fought like that.
Friday Mar 19, 2010 12:58:29 AM
Isaiah @ ali:  You're right. I don't call Whitaker, Pep or M. Spinks runners because they still became aggressive when they had to be and they are all time greats no matter how you slice it. Spinks had decent power, but he really should have never been in the ring with a prime Mike Tyson. Spinks just wasn't mentally prepared. The man was terrified of Iron Mike and it showed quickly in that fight. Whitaker and Pep dazzled the crowd like Mayweather does quite a bit with excellent boxing skills, but Mayweather pot shots all night and these guys knew when to turn up the heat man. Bruce Seldon? Why is he in this conversation? Next. Let me get to the point. Your guy is boring all the time. He doesn't care at all about his fans. Mayweather potshots to victory all night. In Floyd's last KO, Ricky Hatton basically had to about knock himself out with the ringpost and you know Hatton is a far better fighter at 140. That's just the truth. Ali, I'd like to make another point if I could. Before a Mayweather threw an accusation out of the blue, did you honestly ever suspect Manny Pacquiao of any wrong doing? Look at it from Manny's point of view. Manny is the pound for pound champ and he's having the ex guy try to enforce very strict demands that Floyd has never wanted in 40 pro fights. Why now? Manny and Floyd were both 106 pounds at 16 years old. Both fought in several weight classes and won almost as many belts as well. Floyd himself said Pacquiao is one dimensional and Floyd could beat him easier then Marquez whether Manny is on steroids or not, so for such a huge payday, why not beat Manny silly in the ring and then expose him right after the fight if he's a fraud? In that way, Floyd would double embarass Pacman and make millions doing it. Don't you also wonder why you've never ever heard of any all time great needing Xylocaine to compete including borderline greats nowadays like Manny Pacquaio and Shane Mosley. Forget that it might be legal in Nevada for a minute. Why does a fair fighter need this? What would your response be if Floyd was being accused by Manny and Manny was a proven Xylocaine user? That is bull crap man and you know it.

The Saint:  @Isaiah: Great points. Unfortunately, we should all know by now that facts do NOT matter to Mayweather's Mindless Minions... at all...

Writemaster:  I will never buy a Floyd PPV ever. A disrespectful, racist, insulting, foul-mouthed, slandering individual like him doesn't deserve our money. All his PPV's should not be supported thus boycotted.

RED:  Just like in the case of Clottey, there is a misguided and incorrect assumption among some boxing writers that the decision of an overwhelming majority of fans, promoters and analysts in the sport to pick Mayweather, and Pacquiao before, means that the underdog is being disrespected. Nothing can be further from the truth. An underdog is an underdog because a majority believes the opponent is a favorite to win. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the underdog is, to put it mildly, a chump. I picked Pacquiao to beat Clottey without reservations. I knew that Joshua would not be able to handle the constant barrages from every conceivable angle that Manny would be throwing. I knew that he would spend the fight trying to figure out what to do. Did I believe Manny would win because Clottey is a tomato can? Absolutely not! Indeed, my pick had nothing to with Clottey. It had everything to do with Manny. I believe Floyd will beat Shane. Shane is a damn good fighter. He’s not slow. He’s not a light puncher. He’s not dumb. He’s certainly not a journeyman. But… he’s not Floyd. Not in 2010. Floyd is younger. He’s a more accurate puncher, which includes jabbing. Floyd is a much more efficient boxer and certainly a better ring tactician. Floyd can adapt to his opponent’s style. Shane has proven to have difficulty with styles he cannot master. Winky Wright gave him a lesson in jabbing. Shane could not overcome it. Miguel Cotto also out-boxed him. Floyd is better than Miguel. Shane is a brave, still quick, solid fighter today. I would pick him to win the majority of the time; Just not this time. Floyd will win because he’ll find a way. Is that being disrespectful to Shane? No. I’m being realistic. Shane is a good fighter that will face a great one. Just like in Pacquiao vs. Clottey, my pick has nothing to do with the underdog. It has everything to do with the favorite.

jox:  Floyd`s been bizzy. * In 2002, Floyd Mayweather Jr pleaded guilty to 2 charges of misdemeanor domestic violence. * In 2004, Mayweather received a 1 year suspended jail sentence, was ordered to seek counseling for “impulse control”, and fined a $1000 after being convicted for misdemeanor battery of 2 women in a Las Vegas nightclub. * In 2005, Floyd was found innocent in a trial for assaulting his girlfriend outside a Las Vegas club in 2003. The girlfriend, , changed her story on the stand

Reginald Brown:  This is the first time Floyd will be tested by a real welterweight but unfortunately at 38 Mosley will not be the same as when he is younger. Floyd ducked Mosley, Margarito, Cotto and Williams for a reason. His "0" loss dont mean jack and his unwillingness to fight real welterweights in their prime will forever be associated with his name.

Justin gonsalves:  Floyds defense in that philly shell makes almost impossible to land a clean flush shot on him. He comes out of retirement and beats Mexicos finest fighter. Its obvious that his skills are too much for anyone rite now. Which is why he is undefeted. Shane cant cut off the ring to catch floyd or counter punch as well as floyd, and Floyd is more tactical and patient. Shane is smart too but the fact he couldnt beat one dimensional and predictable Miguel Cotto or as I like to call him Slowtto, shud tell u Floyd is gonna outbox him. Put ur money on Floyd People!! That way u keep ur money and earn sum more$$
