Pacquiao-Clottey Weigh-In Report/PREDICTION PAGE

By George Kimball

ARLINGTON, Texas --- When they stepped on the scale outside Texas Stadium Friday night the differential between them was a mere pound and a quarter, but Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach supposes that as much as 15 or 16 pounds could separate Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey by the time they step into the ring tomorrow night.

“Manny won’t put on much at all. He can’t gain much more (than the 145 3/4 he scaled in last night),” said Roach, who expects his righter to come into the ring weighing no more than 148 or 149. Clottey, on the other hand, is a natural welterweight who has made no secret of his intent to come in ‘big’ for the megabout, and Roach fully expects his fighter to be facing a full-fledged super-middleweight by the time the bell rings.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Clottey weighs 165 or 166 by fight time,” said Roach, who nonetheless remains resolute in his prediction of a Pacquiao knockout.

The weigh-in was conducted before an audience several thousand strong that would make for a decent crowd at most any club fight show you could think of. Announcer Michael Buffer was kept busy introducing the dignitaries, who included former champions Antonio Margarito and Jorge Arce of Mexico, along with Dallas‘ own Stevie Cruz, who upset Barry McGuigan to win the WBA featherweight title almost a quarter-century ago. Actor Robert Duvall was also introduced on the dais but did not weigh in, and Cowboys‘ safety Darren Woodson took the microphone from Buffer to warm up the crowd, whose allegiance seemed evenly divided between Mexico and the Philippines. If there were any rooters from Ghana they did not make their presence known.

Even though Cowboys Stadium was reconfigured to accommodate 45,000 for Pacquiao-Clottey,  promoter Bob Arum said shortly before the weigh-in that just a handful of tickets remained, and a sellout appears likely. Arum revealed that his partner, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, had opted to put an undetermined (but probably unlimited) number of $35 “party” tickets on sale 24 hours before the fight.

The “party pass” is an innovation Jones developed for sold-out Cowboys home games. Patrons don’t get a seat, but rather are allowed to mill around on a plaza high above the field. Sight lines are pretty limited, but the party patrons are able to watch on the state of the art video boards, and, of course, have access to a bar. The setup was designed, according to Jones, “to accommodate fans who just want to be part of the atmosphere" -- and judging from the turnout at last night’s weigh-in and their reaction to Arum’s “party time!” announcement, there appears to be an abundance of those.

The main event referee, Rafael Ramos, was working the night Manny Pacquiao last fought in Texas three years ago, but their paths didn’t cross that night at the Alamodome.   Ramos drew several undercard bouts, including those involving Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Victor Ortiz, but the assignment for the Paquiao-Jorge Solis main event went to Vic Drakulich of Transylvania.

Although he has resided in San Antonio for the past 17 years, the 53 year-old Ramos was born in Puerto Rico and cut his refereeing teeth in the New Jersey casinos two decades ago. Although he has worked upwards of 30 world title bouts, more than half of them were overseas, and he seems to specialize in Oriental junkets, having worked two dozen title bouts in the Far East, including 21 separate trips to Japan.

Ironically, Ramos was not the WBO’s first choice to work tonight’s bout. The slate of officials initially proposed listed Laurence Cole as the referee, but that was overruled by William Kuntz, the executive director of the Texas Commission. Not only has Cole involved himself in controversy by mishandling several high-profile bouts over the years (including a suspension for his misconduct in a 2006 fight involving Juan Manuel Marquez), but it was felt that the fact that he is the son of former Texas boxing boss Dickie Cole might create the appearance of impropriety. (This apparently never occurred to anyone on Dickie’s watch.)

At the very least, had the Cole appointment stood, there would have been as much attention focused on the referee as on the fighters themselves, and, Ramos noted earlier this week, “the fans aren’t paying to see me.”

Should their services be required, the panel of ringside judges for the main event will be Duane Ford (Nevada), Levi Martinez (New Mexico) and Nelson Vasquez (Puerto Rico).

Ramos was the referee when Marquez stopped Juan Diaz in the ninth round of their 2009 Fight of the Year candidate in Houston. Ironically, although their services were not required that night, both Ford and Martinez were judges for that bout.

Ten bouts in all are on tap, with the last four of them slated to be aired on the HBO PPV telecast, including the Humberto Soto-David Diaz WBC lightweight title fight.

In introducing the principals for that one at Thursday’s undercard press conference, promoter Bob Arum noted that more than any other single person, Diaz is responsible for setting in motion the chain of events leading to tonight’s megafight by agreeing to Pacquiao’s 2008 challenge for his WBC lightweight title.

Since Pacquiao had not once in 50 pro fights ventured north of 130 pounds, it was not a fight Diaz was obliged to take, and Pac-Man’s TKO9 presaged similar fates for Oscar De Lay Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and Miguel Cotto in Manny’s subsequent climb up the scales.

At 29, Alfonso Gomez is better known for his role in ‘The Contender’ and as the man who retired the late Arturo Gatti than for anything he’s done lately. Gomez revealed that much of his recent energy has gone into performing with his two brothers in a Spanish hip-hop group called Hybrid. Thursday afternoon the Fonz provided a sneak peek, reciting the lyrics to a recent composition, the subject of which was tonight’s 36 year-old opponent, Jose Luis Castillo.

The recitation was in Spanish, but we can reliably report that Gomez’ song incorporated the names of Castillo, Bob Arum, Freddy Krueger, and Tecate beer. Castillo seemed properly amused.

The PPV show will kick off with a scheduled ten-rounder in which Irish middleweight John Duddy has been pitted against his third consecutive Mexican-born opponent in his year-long quest for redemption following last year’s upset at the hands of Billy Lyell. Unlike his recent victims Michi Munoz and Juan Astorga, both of whom now reside in Kansas, Michael Medina lives in Monterrey and will be fighting North of the border for just the third time in his career.

It was consequently something of a surprise, then, to hear Medina address the gathering in perfectly un-accented English. (In fact, claimed a Texan in attendance, “Medina’s English is easier to understand than Duddy’s is.”)

“English was actually my first language,” Medina explained to us later. “I was born in Mexico, but my family moved to California when I was little. I went to American schools until I was 12, when we moved back to Mexico.”

In addition to the sold-out live audience, Arum is hoping for as many as 750,000 buys for the US pay-per-view telecast. Millions more, as Buffer likes to say, will be watching on live television around the world.  The team of Ian Darke and Jim Watt are here to call the bout for Britain’s SKY TV.  Because no Brit is involved, Pacquiao-Clottey will be shown on free television in the United Kingdom. By contrast, May’s Amir Khan-Paulie Malignaggi fight at the Madison Square Garden Theatre will be a pay-per-view fight in Britain. Go figure.

ultimoshogun:  The Ghanaian warrior pulls off a shocker and stops the Filipino juggernaut in the 11 rd !!

Markarian:  After the Cotto fight, I will never bet against Manny Pacquiao again. He should win this fight but it won’t be by KO. Clottey has too much pride to get knocked out. It is Clottey’s defense that will keep him in the fight. Now if he had a stronger offensive game this fight would be a slugfest. Instead we will get a fast punching little man against a slow stalking big man. Pacquiao by UD.
Friday Mar 12, 2010 09:13:56 PM
SALT lover:  Is not a question of who's gonna win Is a question if whether Pacquiao can KO Clottey. That's the nature of this fight. In summary, Clottey does NOT bring nothin' Pacquiao hasn't seen recently, except a fighter that has never been KO'ed, and the freshest opponent to date. He's just another frontal movin' fighter that has gone far in boxin' with strength and resiliency, rather than skills, and intelligence. So as the styles match up, Pacquiao is gonna win the fight, obviously. Joshua Clottey and his new Rican trainer, Lenny De Jesus, both said that the key to Victory is to pressure Pacquiao cuz he can't fight backwards. Like Arnold Schwarzennegger said many times in the 90s: "That is a BIG Mistake". It's True that Pacquiao looks stupid fightin backwards, but the way to do that is gettin' him off balance counterin' his punches with straight right hands, which Clottey does not significantly have. His triple left hook is gonna one of his arsenals that Pacquiao will keep an eye on, it's not gonna do significant damage. I see the fight one dude throwin' punches and the other blockin', then the other guy's turn, until Pacquiao starts usin' his angles and lands more shots that the African dude. Other than that, nothin' else to this fight. Another picked opponent from Roach/Arum circle to keep Pacquiao winnin', and the money on Top Rank, Inc. rollin'.....what else was expected? Prediction: Emmanuel Pacquiao by Unanimous Decision over Joshua Clottey. Checkezzzzzzz!!!!

Anonymous user:  clottey will quit in the middle rounds citing some sort of injury
Friday Mar 12, 2010 09:30:25 PM
Robert Curtis:  Manny's got too much talent and will to lose this one. Clottey is a credible opponent, but not the level of guy who is going to derail Manny's career. Clottey is indeed a stronger puncher than Cotto, more accurate and crisp. Problem is that Clottey is not any faster. Pacman will have run around him twice before Clottey delivers a combination. But Clottey does cover up well and he'll be covering up an awful lot tomorrow night. For JC, it will come down to heart and focus. As long as he doesn't get discouraged by Manny's speed and keeps punching with both hands, he has a small chance. But most likely it will be Manny by a late KO. I'm thinking by round ten Clottey will be dismantled and Pacman will just tee off.
Friday Mar 12, 2010 09:41:17 PM
Markarian:  One more thing, I think it will be interesting to see if Clottey tries to rough up the Pacman. If Clottey holds, grabs, and makes it an ugly fight, he could do some damage... Everyone tries to out box Manny, he hasn't been roughed up by the welterweights yet.
Friday Mar 12, 2010 09:43:55 PM
donputo69:  Well guys...here's my OFFICIAL PREDICTION....DRUMS PLEASE...DRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM....IM PICKING CLOTTEY TO WIN THIS FIGHT...YEP..I SAID IT...CLOTTEY WILL WIN...DONT KNOW HOW...but he would pull it off...it will be a good fight though...But i wouldnt be surprise if pacman wins also...its gonna be a close fight...Clottey will WIN...holla back!!!

MLB:  Hmm! Pacquiao is going to score an easy knockout in six rounds or less. Skills and talent get victory, not hoping and hating.
Friday Mar 12, 2010 10:10:43 PM
bill major:  duran jr , look at him! lol. except he's smiling. i say pacquiao in a real tough go squeaks by in a decision. if he KO's clottey ill bow to the undisputed king of the pd 4 pd.
Friday Mar 12, 2010 10:21:44 PM
Twik:  Clottey is a good person, but just an average fighter. He is a knockout waiting to happen. I would not be surprise to see Pacquiao knock him out in round one or round 10, but there will be a knockout.
Friday Mar 12, 2010 10:25:50 PM
vjoe:  Am I right that Clottey is a 4-1 underdog?! I love Manny and maybe I'm wrong, but he did not look quite as ripped at the weigh-in as he has at his last couple of welterweight fights. Also, he looked much smaller than Clottey and frankly I think Clottey is more skilled and faster than most acknowledge. At 4-1, I'm all over Clottey, but I'll be pulling for Manny. Prediction: Clottey by middle to late round stoppage.
Friday Mar 12, 2010 11:00:09 PM
swift:  This fight is going to surprise a lot of people, when Pacquiao struggles against clottey. The two reasons he will struggle is Clottey size and the bigger issue of pac talking retirement! Anytime you hear a fighter talking about hanging them up, they start slipping... mark my words, he will lose or barely win tommorrow this will not be a knockout!
Friday Mar 12, 2010 11:04:48 PM
PacmansGhost:  4 rd . hand injury for Clottey. sorry dude this tym Clottey will taste the canvass, hell be lucky if he can survive in 5th rd. 6 rd. is clottey's nightmare. he will be seeing stars while his eyes closed lying on the canvass.good sleep.
Friday Mar 12, 2010 11:23:40 PM
jako:  Without a shred of doubt, Clottey will KO pacman. The whole woeld will be amazed at how pacman is disciplined in the ring. Here comes a new champion in the person of Clottey. Gooooooooooooooooooooooooo Clottey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dniz:  i think PACMAN will win by KO in 6 rounds...
Friday Mar 12, 2010 11:33:31 PM
Editor Mike:  Angles and hand speed, Clottey's not seen the likes of Manny's angles and hand speed. Oh, let's not forget Manny's mobility. His footwork is sublime. The plodding Ghanian will get dropped, and stopped, around the ninth.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 12:16:58 AM
the Roast:  Man, I gotta say, I really dont have that big fight feeling. I dont think this fight is PPV worthy. I'm not buying it. This should be on HBO. The only chance that Clottey has to win is to land that perfect punch and knockout the Pacman. I dont see that happening. Pacquiao is too fast and Clottey doesnt let his hands go enough. Pacquiao will win round after round until Clottey's face is swollen and bloody ala Cotto and Oscar. Manny wins by TKO in the 10th. I'll save my money for the next big PPV fight. You know the one.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 12:18:23 AM
Wahkahwakahwakah!:  Well- I am the biggest PacMan fan but I think that this will be a challenge to Emmanuel "Pacman". Clottey is going to be the bigger guy in the ring tomorrow night. He will come in weighing as a middle weight. Hmmmm...about 158-162lbs. But...Pacman's Speed and Skills gonna send that African back to Ghana without a belt- Aint gonna happen!
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 12:27:12 AM
KA-BAR :  I'm goin' with the under dog Clottey by split decision or late round stoppage...
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 12:33:06 AM
Fe'roz:  I'm with Bill Major. I have Manny by close hard fought UD. No KO. No KD's.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 12:49:59 AM
El Maromero:  if Clottey stays real close to Manny, it can be a good fight but if he gives him the ring to move around then Manny will jump all over him and eventually stop him
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 12:55:51 AM
Isaiah:  I see a lot of people giving Joshua Clottey props as they should so how about if Pacquaio does win this, we don't all be stupified the next day and act like Clottey is a bum because everyone knows that's a load of bull. As someone said in the last Rocky movie, this fight WILL be competitive. Still, I pick Manny by UD. By the way, yes I would rather see the Mayweather/Mosley fight, but a couple of you all act like Floyd wanted that all along and everyone should know my anwser for that...
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 01:29:52 AM
Nerio:  Clottey's style is very common and his punches are very predictable to Pacquiao....Im sure Pacquiao will win by KO....
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 01:37:49 AM
ikawpipa:  i think Manny will dominate the fight and will pursue Clottey's body until the Ghanian fighter can not stand it anymore. Then, I see Clottey lowering his shell defense to protect his body but at the same time opening his chin for the P4P king to hit.. Manila Ice will be thrown followed by a devastating left straight and as accurate as Tiger Woods into golf will find its mark and "BOOM".. lights out to Clottey ... The funny thing is, before Clottey completely blacksout, he unleashes a triple right hook that miraculously will find its target and for the first time in the history, the P4P king will feel the immense power of a true welterweight boxer and as we all know, all chin's are vulnerable... AND THEN, THE REFEREE IS UNDECIDED WHERE TO START THE COUNT ... THE JERRY-TRON TELEVISION STARTED TO MALFUNCTION AND DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF ELECTRICITY, THE COWBOYS STADIUM FORGOT TO PAY THE BILLS AND THE ELECTRIC COMPANY SHUTS THE POWER OFF ... LEAVING 45,000 PEOPLE WONDERING WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE FIGHT.... '''AND THEN I WOKE UP, TOOK A SHOWER and Remembered that I never really liked boxing."
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 02:01:09 AM
bbtroy:  I'd like Pacquiao to win so he could keep his trail blazing for May/Mosley winner but he won't mind losing to Clottey for the fans. Mayweather does'nt give a damn about the fans but their money. That's the big the difference!
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 02:44:24 AM
P Woolever:  The Huck and Povetkin Berlin show is getting more hype here in Germany but I'm in a lone star state of mind, especially after friends there have verified what a great fight scene it is. I was thinking Clottey could tip the applecart, and I bet a couple of early rounds are thrillers, but Pacquiao definitely had the weigh-in vibe going so I've got to jump on the Manny bandwagon and go with the flow of another big Filipino party after a late round TKO.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 04:09:38 AM
aMIEL:  i think probably would win this fight im rest assured of that because of his speed and his power, Clottey was once knocked by Cotto easily what if Manny hits him really hard.... Could he survived ... GOOD NIGHT joshua "CLOTHEAD" cLOTTEY.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 05:18:15 AM

Saturday Mar 13, 2010 05:42:18 AM
John Nguyen:  The whole point of intrigue in this fight is that Clottey is a big, strong bully of a welterweight who might just have the style to rough Manny up. However, a realistic look shows that he's just too slow, methodical, and downright predictable for Manny. Don't get me wrong, Joshua Clottey is a pretty good fighter, but it takes a heck of a lot more than a pretty good fighter to beat Manny Pacquiao. There might be some competitive moments early on, but Manny's speed, movement, and combination punching will carry the day and dominate late. He's got a shot at a late stoppage, but I'll go with the more likely result of Pacquiao by UD.

AFN forgotten but not gone:  Manny has made me a mug three times in a row. If I pick him now just watch the wee man mug me again by getting stopped. I'm just going to enjoy the fight is all, and props to the winner whoever it may be. Manny will probably match Clottey's weight by eating a couple of babies before the fight, or whatever it was Mayweather accused him of doing. Enjoy the hiatus Brownsugar, I'm now wondering where I ever found the time to write so much as i did. EL TOONOY

TotoyBato:  Pacman wins by KNOCKOUT!!!! after completely DOMINATING and embarassing Clottey. Another complete show for the boxing fans. Pacman is at a much higher level than any other fighter alive today.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 08:55:50 AM
@brownsugar:  whatever wimpy brownsugar. stay away 30-60 years of this god forsaken self'-imposed exite. the best man will win, the other will be in darkness and blood.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 09:52:44 AM
Springs Toledo:  Josh Clottey is significantly bigger and stronger than Pacquiao. He is gearing up to emphasize exactly that tonight. He's going to come in big and fight big. He also has a tendency to cut his opponents -Corrales, Cruz, Judah, and Cotto among them, and that may either make things interesting or ruin the event. Barring that, Clottey's problem is two-fold. First, he is a static fighter. Pacquiao is a dynamic fighter who fights in what seems to be four dimensions. Despite Clottey's fortress-like defense, Pacquiao will land shots by splitting Clottey's guard and hooking around the arms. Clottey will come forward and try to pin him down, but Pacquiao's mastery of angles will help him as much as his speed and guns. Clottey's second problem is his pride. More specifically, his stubborn pride. He doesn't adapt. He is more likely to find a way out than to make adjustments in the ring. Once Pacquiao begins to take over, watch for Clottey to fight harder but without imagination, and by doing so he will plant the seeds of his own destruction. Here's why: Clottey's fortress will have to open for him to mount an offense. The more offensive Clottey is, the more risk there will be. Pacquiao should stop him, but he must be careful of not only Clottey's uppercuts, but his head and his elbows as well.

Saturday Mar 13, 2010 10:49:16 AM
Tex:  Pacman will leave Clottey swinging at air. I bet he busts him up en route to a late stoppage. Cottey will want to continue, but he'll be too effed up or that matter. Shells only work if the fist don't get through. They will. Expect a bloody, over matched, broken down Clottey.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 12:03:49 PM
Qarlos:  CLOTTEY BY KO IN 7. Pacquiao has never faced a welterweight that was permitted to come in at the limit, until now. Beating up a tired, ring-worn, shot Miguel Cotto means zero. This time he's facing a Ghanian with a concrete beard and great punch. Look for Pacquiao to come out fast but hit that brick wall fast. Clottey will punish him and I think smelling salt will be administered in the 7th round to the newly fallen idol. An ambulance ride and hospital stay is in Pacquiao's near future. Diego Corrales, a small guy, once challenged this Ghanain and you saw what happened there. Same happens here. CLOTTEY BY BRUTAL KO IN 7.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 12:06:22 PM
b-fern:  What's that old saying? Oh, yeah, it's not the size of the dog in the fight that counts, it's the amount of fight in the dog. I've seen my share of smaller pit-bull -type fighters take it to bigger guys. Manny has about convinced me that he can give away a few inches, a few pounds, and still leave bit marks on the butts of the big woofers. Not a knockout, but a win on points that serves to illustrate why he's still baring his fangs and ruling the pound.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 01:41:28 PM
DaveB:  Radam just posted on another article, like I said before he is probably in Texas, and he said he was. Brownsugar have a good time off to get recharged. I'll go with Pacquaio again. As been said repeatedly too much speed and too many angles. Clottey just doesn't bring enough to the table. Yeah he is strong and he is durable but he always fades down the stretch and he is a crybaby. Pacquaio shoud be able to bust him up pretty good. It's a damn shame this isn't the fight that may never happen. Pac by late round stoppage or UD.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 03:16:07 PM
Frank Z:  Joshua Clottey has a very good chance at upsetting this fight. if antonio margarito coudlnt' break clottey to the body when he had 2 injured hands and margarito had 2 plastered ones, then it's hard for me to picture pacquiao doing what roach says he'll do. Clottey's elusiveness and slickness cannot be underestimated, it's just that in his last 2 high profile fights he's had to be the pursuer so we did not get to see it. i'm fairly astonished that peopel are all of a sudden hopping on pacquiao to stop clottey. i know freddie roach said so but he also said a first round KO over cotto. i believe clottey can shoot his straight rights and uppercuts up pacquiao's middle enough to keep pacquiao from warring with him for a good amount of the fight and clottey will not back up, at least not unless he's just letting the opponent waste punches on his gloves while leaning on the ropes. however, being that clottey has a tendencey to go into a defensive shell and let the other man wail on his arms and shoulders will look terrible to the judges, especially since this fight is in texas the site of a few famous dubious decisions, and the fact that the media machine and boxing promotions are behind pacquiao, i see pacquiao winning 117-111 on the scorecards although the real fight will be closer than it looks on paper. clottey may be susceptible to catching flash knockdowns also, since he straightens out and raises his chin when he opens up his attack, so that may also separate the scores as well though expect clottey to come out much less marked than pacquiao. pacquiao will box a beautiful match with lots of erratic foot and head movement, and clottey will look good with his exchanges since i think he'll win most of those, but expect pacquiao to flurry, slide over, reset, and flurry again his way to a decision.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 03:18:48 PM
Frank Z@ Misterlee:  bro i wish i coudl be with you on that prediction, and we both predicited him to stop miguel cotto late, but that was when i was certain that joshua clottey had a killer instinct like a margarito's. now that i've seen more of him i can't be so sure. if it does happen i wuoldn't be surprised though.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 03:22:37 PM
conor o' malley:  pacquiao will win a unanimous decision. i can't see him stopping clottey. he might get stunned a few times but will be too fast and too busy for clottey.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 03:34:03 PM
Bob Mladinich:  This is a winnable fight for Clottey but he won't win. Although bigger and stronger than the Pac Man, Clottey will allow Pacquiao's speed and movement to determine the pace and outcome of the fight. In order to win, Clottey needs to take chances and impose himself but that's not in his nature. Pacquiao by decision. If Pacquiao stops the steel chinned Clottey, Mayweather will never fight him.
Saturday Mar 13, 2010 05:13:43 PM
ike bongcawel:  Today's fight, March 13 ,2010 for Pacquiao- Clottey show is not a David-Goliath sensation. With several post-boxing strategic analysis between previous boxing history of both fighters, Manny Pacquiao comes out as a winner, not even by unanimous decision but by early TKO and Clottey ends up in ER ! This is my honest prediction. This would furhter add Floyd " Mayweather's greatest Fear against Manny Pacquiao.

BROWNNOSE:  Trending now @ Yahoo. Manny Pacquiao is at the top spot. I don't see any Floyd Mayweather's name there, the self proclaimed p4p king. Shane Mosley ducked Clottey. Clottey is the most available foe at the time Mosley was saying nobody wanted to fight him.

Fe'roz :  Two thoughts cross my mind as we head into tonight's fight. One, the true but oft over-mentioned steel chin and durability of Joshua Clottey. Every time we (myself included) speak of a fighter's never having hit the canvas, I heard the words "Down Goes...!" in my head. So I would be amazed but I would not be totally surprised to see and hear those words describe Joshua Clottey tonight. Given Manny's historic run of recent victories it would be a stunning feat on his part to do so but it is totally within the realm of possibility. On the other hand I would be more shocked but not altogether surprised to see Manny on his seat or worse tonight. If he is not careful, he could absolutely walk into an uppercut that would knock bigger men off their feet. Do I see either happening? No. Could it? Yessir. See you all after the fight.

Frank Z@ Fe'Roz:  i think the more interesting prediction is actually who's gonna end up more hurt tonight. i see it as a very very steep hill to climb for clottey to win a decision given he doesn't carry much money to the table and given his less active style.

Anonymous user:  clottey's corner said that they dont need to watch the tape (pacquiao fights), bcoz lenny de jesus (pacquiao's former cutman) said he got the key of beating manny pacquiao... then roach said, its being idiotic if you're saying that you don't need that tapes, coz we all knew that those tapes will help a lot to these fighters specially on how to make a perfect tactics for your opponent... i mean, cmon', its a great privilege to have those tapes then why would you just ignore those privilege... pacquio by KO

brownsugar:  thanks for the response TSS,.. your words really made me feel appreciated,.. in exchange for giving up the internet I get to see a lot less of my fiance's side of the family too as part of the deal... so it's an even trade... lol,.. well I'm heading off to the fight,.. on paper Clottey shouldn't lose to a man who has to eat five times a day and train like Holyfield used to do,.. just to get big enough to compete at welter,.. but Pac is a legitimate phenom so I can't count him out,.. in a way it's better if Pac wins because it makes for more exciting fights in the future,. enjoy the fight fella's the new Texas Stadium awaits..(on PPV of course),.. pc

120-108:  I had it 120-108, Pacquiao. A shutout. Boring fight, not the fault of Pacquiao. Clottey went the Bernard Hopkins route and threw about 15 punches per round.

Frank Z@ Salt ``:  looks like we were about spot on. bob arum is the happiest man in that stadium. neither fighter got really damaged physically and both of them have to cut checks to him.

DRMULLEN:  WakWak, not a bigger one than Doc Mullen. I shot in my pants when Manny did a Bruce Lee Move.

SALT lover@Frank Z:  I hear you, dude! The fight nothin' else that what was expected..................except there wasn't KO's. Thing is, Arum might be happy about it and everythin', but not that much. Everybody on the Pacquiao side wanted a KO they couldn't get. Clottey wasn't nothin' more than I expected. Blockin' punches and movin' forward all day was the easy thin' to envision..................and HELL YES I hear you about the cut checks! XD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That dude get's most money while Pacquiao and the other dudes are the worst paid! From the hugely announced $12 Million Arum gets his big percentage LOL!!! Checkezzzzz!!!

Frank Z@ Salt :  this makes the fight with mayweather even more intriguing (assuming he beats mosley). clottey did not make the fight ugly, which mayweather will but dipping in under pacquiao's punches and tying him up. whenever clottey got inside pacquiao's punches pac's movement stopped, he still can't fight on the inside, and i can't see him correcting that within this year since he's not done it his entire career yet. the size difference between pacquiao and mayweather will look about the same as it was between him and clottey. mayweather's not as powerfully built as clottey but he's just as tall and his reach is slightly bigger.
