A SLUGGER'S SHOWDOWN: Arreola Will Clash With Adamek

Los Angeles, CA (February 19, 2010) – Can the renowned Polish warrior withstand the devastating knockout power of “The Nightmare”?

We will all find out on Saturday night, April 24 when Goossen Tutor Promotions and Main Events in association with Ziggy Promotions --- and sponsored by Corona and San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino --- presents “RING OF FIRE” on HBO’s Boxing After Dark (11:15 PM ET/PT).

Emanating from the 10,000-seat state of the art Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California, the scheduled 12-round main event – for the NABO and IBF Heavyweight International Championship -- will feature local knockout sensation and top world contender Cristobal “The Nightmare” Arreola, from the nearby city of Riverside, versus former WBC Light Heavyweight, IBF and Ring Magazine Cruiserweight titleholder and current IBF Heavyweight International Champion, Tomasz “Goral” Adamek of Jersey City, NJ by way of Zywiec, Poland.

“Heavyweights, heavyweights, heavyweights!  There is nothing better than to have two powerful, hungry, big men in the ring throwing bombs at each other, and in Arreola and Adamek, we have two fighters with over 50 knockouts combined.  It’s not going the distance,” promoter Dan Goossen confidently stated.

The 28-year old Arreola (28-1, 25 KOs) rebounded from a hard-fought, defeat at the hands of WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko -- in his first attempt to become the first boxer of Mexican descent to win a world heavyweight title back in September -- by destroying 34-1 Brian Minto en route to a fourth-round TKO on December 5, 2009 in Atlantic City, New Jersey on HBO.  The heavy-handed Arreola sent Minto to the deck twice in that fatal round.

In taking on the rugged Adamek, who has moved up to heavyweight after earning world titles in two separate weight classes, the crowd-pleasing Arreola will be making his second appearance at the Citizens Business Bank Arena.  He was featured in the first-ever pro boxing show there back in November, 2008, when he stopped Travis Walker in three rounds to win the IBF Heavyweight Eliminator and, in the process, retain his WBC Continental Americas title and claim the NABF crown.  Arreola plans to put Adamek’s chin to the supreme test.

“I’m excited about bringing a can’t miss ‘Fight of the Year” to Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario and Southern California and, especially, the Inland Empire,” Arreola exclaimed.  “I am really looking forward to performing in front of the home crowd.  I am happy to get back in the ring after a win against Minto and I’m just looking to continue my winning ways fighting a good, experienced fighter like Tomasz Adamek.  “He’s a former world champion in two divisions and he’s moved up to heavyweight with two fights under his belt, Arreola -- five years younger, and at 6-4, 250 will enter the ring with a two-and-a-half-inch, 30-plus pound advantage -- continued.  “I’m sure he will come prepared to beat me, but it’s not gonna happen.  A win over Adamek would get me a step closer to fighting for a world title again, which I am looking forward to doing in 2010.  But first, April 24th.”

Fresh off his February 6th victory against Jason “Big Six” Estrada, Tomasz Adamek (40-1, 27 KO’s) has become one of the hottest contenders in the heavyweight division.  The 12-round fight showed Tomasz working the body and moving well to score a unanimous decision over the 2004 Olympian.  In his first foray into the heavyweight division, on October 25, 2009, Adamek scored a 5th round TKO over Andrew Golota.  He clearly dominated the legendary Polish world contender despite a 42- pound weight discrepancy, winning the IBF Heavyweight International Championship.

Adamek intends to show the world that nothing can stop him from reaching his goal of being heavyweight champion, even going to Arreola’s home turf.

“Fighting Chris Arreola will prove that nothing can stop me from reaching my goal to become heavyweight champion of the world.  I'm always ready to deliver a great fight and I'm convinced that with Chris’ very entertaining, no holds barred style; on April 24 we will deliver a heavyweight classic,” said Adamek.  “I’m not fighting in my backyard of Newark, but in Southern California, in Arreola's country, and it will make me even stronger and more determined.  I can't wait for this fight to start."

He won’t have to wait long.

Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events added, “Main Events and Ziggy Promotions are pleased to have this opportunity to introduce Tomasz to all of his fans on the West Coast. We invite all of them - especially those of Polish descent - to come out to the fight to support Tomasz and see with their own eyes what all the excitement is about."

Tickets are $250, $100, $70, and $35 and are available at Ticketmaster.com or at the Citizens Business Bank Arena Box Office.  For more information please visit CBBankArena.com.

Frog Man:  Come on man Minto? He was 40 lbs to light & foot to short. That was another Ginny. I know Ademak is a much bigger guy but he is also going to be too small & if Chris doesn't stop this guy he will needto hang it up. I just hope we don't see tearscomming down that sumo face of his. This will be Chris's 2nd ligit opponent.

DaveB:  Please know this, I am no longer down with Chris.

brownsugar:  very impressed with Adameks courage and competitive spirit,.. don't think he has a chance but props to the prospect anyway..

the Roast:  I dont know B-sug. If anyone can be outworked, it's big fat Chris. Adamek can win this fight unless he gets caught with a big shot. Adamek is faster and has a warriors heart. I dont think Arreola is world class. Vitali exposed that.

brownsugar:  yeah Roast,.. Vitali definitely outboxed him,.. but not necessarily outworked him... few boxers can get past the K brothers size factor,.. but against guys his own size or smaller Chris becomes a terror,... Adamek is good,.. has the fundamentals down,.. but is no Holyfield,.. warriors heart yes,.. I think they both got it,.. so it will be intertaining while it lasts... if Adamek can pull it off,.. I'll be very impressed...and again big props to Adamek for calling out Chris,.. who of course,.. could never refuse what appears to be an easy win for him over a big name opponent (on the surface)... make sure you bring the crow if I'm wrong...

brownsugar:  Adamek is climbing the ranks of the heavies quickly,.. bypassing the usual 2-3 year journey thru the land of tomato cans and bums most hopeful future stars use to pad they're record with... so his competitive drive and ambitions cannot be questioned by anybody,...and he's got a bigger heart than most,.. but Estrada was hitting him at will in his last fight,.. the fight could have arguably been called a draw according to TSS's editors,.. Golotta hit Adamek easily and with regularity also... (even though he was eventually stopped),.. so in a war between to sluggers,.. I gotta pick the biggest hardest hitting slugger... (which is the flab covered Areola)...but I'm glad there's guys out there who take risks like Adamek.. and I'll be there to watch the fireworks on HBO (hopefully)

kountedout:  the goossens are tired of arreola's antics and his lack of training. they said they want to put him in fights now. they have lost a lot of interest in arreola. i dont know if adamek is the guy to beat him bc i dont know if adamek is a true heavyweight. i keep thinking of him at light heavyweight and thats a very dfferent from heavy. i agree arreola is not world class so it will be an interesting fight

AFN forgotten but not gone:  Adamek did not look bloated against Estrada, he seems to have filled out very quickly and looks the part. Having said that he won't be able to resist a brawl if drawn into one and that will be a big mistake against Nightmare. I remember the old Darwin story about the Polish guys having a hard man's contest. The winner cut off his own head with a chain saw. Let's hope Adamek isn't looking up from the canvas before the rest of him falls. Good luck to him though. EL TOONOY

El Moromero:  If The Nightmare is too lazy to sweat off his weight maybe he should try to lose it in tears.

insideinformation:  BREAKING NEWS!!! Manny Pacquiao has been very scared of losing blood that he claims he was weaken by the blood taken from him before he fought Morales. Manny Pacquiao had his blood taken today and it was 20 days before his fight with Clottey. They said they wouldn't do anything that was not required by the commission, but they did and that sounds stupid. I guess he won't be training for 2 or 3 days. Sounds like they have been making excuses for not fighting Floyd Mayweather, Jr. There's a article on RightCrossEntertainment dot cum that shows how Manny was a below then average fighter an now he is suppose to be great. It don't happen like that in boxing. The fighter that beat Manny Pacquiao should have been the one to come to the U.S.

puncher:  Minto did hit Aerola many times and was game the entire fight. A bigger guy would have sent Aerola packing. Chris has no defense, is slow and is not a good heavyweight. Folks are just waiting for that return of th American Heavyweight. Those days are gone.....those dudes are playing in the NBA or NFL.

The Saint:  BREAKING NEWS!!!! Manny Pacquiao is still the fighter of the decade and Mayweather is still the p4p LOSER! LOL
Tuesday Feb 23, 2010 04:54:45 PM
Southie:  I think Adamek will outlast the Riverside slugger. I believe that Tomasz will be the tenacious one and get the UD. @B-sug The heavyweight division is all tomato cans...LOL
