Glen Johnson Hits Half Century Mark...In Wins, Not Birthdays, Wiseguy

“THE ROAD WARRIOR” HITS HALF-CENTURY MARK IN WINS, LOOKS FORWARD TO 2010 TITLE SHOT

HOLLYWOOD, FL, February 8 - It’s one of modern boxing’s most coveted milestones, and on Friday, February 5th, former world light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson his 50 wins in spectacular fashion, stopping fellow contender Yusaf Mack in six rounds at the NSU Arena in Fort Lauderdale to improve to 50-13-2 with 34 knockouts as a professional.

“This is a great moment for me and it came with a lot of hard work and dedication,” said Johnson. “What made it even better for me was that I was able to get this win in front of my family and friends in South Florida, the people who have been in my corner all these years.”

With the victory, which saw the 41-year old Johnson is prime form, he will now proceed to a 2010 title fight against IBF light heavyweight world champion Tavoris Cloud at a date and location to be announced.

“I’m looking forward to regaining the world title this year and making it one of the best years of my career,” said the popular ‘Road Warrior.’ “Tavoris Cloud is a solid, young fighter with a bright future that I respect - just like Yusaf Mack.”

Isaiah:  "Glen Johnson hits the half century mark...In wins, not birthdays, wiseguy." If it's 50 wins and not 50 years, why call it a half century mark? LOL! Just kidding. I still pick Johnson over Cloud by UD. Glen is still one tough guy.

brownsugar:  Johnson vs Cloud is a very exciting and winnable matchup for Carribean Contender,.. Cloud gets hit but doesn't back up,.. he's all out action,.. this is one fight I won't miss,. I'm voting on youth in that one,... gimme Cloud to edge out the tough and dangerous Johnson...

Smoke:  Love to watch Glen fight: relentless pressure in your face style that makes for exciting fights. I pick the Road Warrior on this one coming up. I have only seen Cloud fight once and his style reminded me of an earlier version of Edison Miranda. Like I said, I have only seen Cloud fight once. Not enough data to make a thoughtful pick.

KA-BAR:  I'm goin' with The Road Warrior when he meets Cloud. Even though I think Cloud has an advantage with his youth I still think Johnson has too much spirit and experience to lose. Clouds best win is to a shot Clinton Woods and I think a younger version of Woods would have gotten the best of him if they had met sooner.

Angie And Goody...23 Years Later
Twenty three years later after they seconded Marvin Hagler and Ray Leonard in Las Vegas, Goody Petronelli and Angelo Dundee crossed paths again. This time, it was at Foxwoods. Photo/friend of TSS "The Iceman" John Scully reports there were only pleasantries exchanged. Goody didn't debate the split decision victory enjoyed by Leonard, which to this day Hagler disputes.
