Get Ready For The LOU DUVA MOVIE--In Theaters 2012

Hall of Fame Trainer Lou Duva to be subject of Feature Film!

For Immediate Release (January 21, 2010)— Producer John Edmonds Kozma (Nick Cassavetes' Kentucky Rhapsody) has announced plans to turn the life of legendary boxing trainer and manager Lou Duva into a feature film.

"We've seen a lot of great films about fighters in the past," says Kozma. "Whether about real-life legends like Jake LaMotta or Muhammed Ali, or fictional characters like Rocky Balboa, Hollywood has always focused on the guy in the ring. I thought it would be a great slant on the genre if we told the story through the eyes of someone who lived through it, and observed it, for over 80 years. Lou's literally a walking history book...and has a million colorful tales to tell."

Duva, now 87, began his boxing career as an amateur fighter in 1932 at the age of ten. Over the span of the next eight decades, Duva would go on to promote such groundbreaking bouts as Sugar Ray Leonard/Tommy Hearns I (at that time the largest grossing non-heavyweight fight in history, grossing more than $40 million) and handle the development of boxing giants such as Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Hector "Macho" Camacho, and Pernell Whittaker. He also ran with such show biz icons as Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr.

Also on board as producer is Richard O'Sullivan (The Teacher, One Night with You) and scripted by noted playwright and boxing historian Daniel Chernau.

Tentative release of the film is slated for early 2012.

SALT lover:  This old dude RUINED Meldrick Taylor's career. The old man told him to fight the 12th round against Julio Cesar Chavez Sr when Taylor had already the fight in the bag, and on top of that, he jumped into the corner to scream instructions to Taylor at the same time Steele was askin' if he was OK, distractin' the fighter from answerin' critical questions that ended up stoppin' the fight. Please TSS take this photo from the site, it brings bad history for me XD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Radam G:  I'm all for that film. Hey, Lou, I told you that you're movie material a long time ago. Man, you know that you have always been colortul with some witty and deep history. And the thing about it, your big arse is far from being senile or making up $hit. Wow! This movie about you is going to be as true as the great guy who you are. Congrals, Lou! Holla!

brownsugar:  I want to see the real life TRUE story of the rise and fall of Don King,.. starring Denzel.... and I mean I want to see the truth,.. the whole truth,.. the deals,.. the back stabs,.. the cons,.. there would not be enough time to tell the whole tale in 2 hours and it would be guaranteed to be a better film than "American Gangster",... Wouldn't mind seeing the story of Angelo Dundee either... no disrespect to Duva,.. I don't know that much about him... could be a good pic....

Radam G:  It will be a great pic....B-Sug. But you got me on Don King. One propaganda movie was made about him a few years ago. One dealing with the "TRUE story" would be awesome. Go check out of some the old ducumentary done on King @ Youtube -- "Don King Story 7/8/9/10." The baddest movie about boxing that can ever be made would be about Harold Smith aka Ross B. Fields. This promoter was some bad that he sucked GOAT Ali to use his name, robbed the mafia, the U.S. government, colleges and Wells Fargo (Bank system) . And did get caught until my sharp-eyed cousin hipped the bank to MAPS sneaky electronic transfers of funds. MAPS -- Muhammad Ali Professional Sports -- gave fighters money to burn and paid amateur boxers and amateur boxing organizations big money with a hope of favoritism for landing the prospects to sign with MAPS Duva's family Main Event, Top Rank and Don King Boxing Productions. MAPS even support U.S. Track and Field athletes. Holla!

Isaiah:  YEY! SOMETHING BIG IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN 2012, BUT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY MOVIE COMING OUT! THERE'S CONSTRUCTION OF A CERTAIN TEMPLE IN ISRAEL STARTING MARCH 16TH OF THIS YEAR THAT REPRESENTS MORE THAN ANY OF US CAN POSSIBLY COMPREHEND! PLEASE, JUST FOR FUN, LOOK UP MATTHEW 24 VERSES 15 THRU 22 AND TELL ME THAT I'M JUST SOME CRAZY PERSON. DOES ANYONE HAVE THE GUTS TO READ IT?

brownsugar@RadamG:  That's some wild stuff Radam,.. I remember the scandal surrounding Harold Smith,.. but not much detail...but Smith was a smooth one,... and ordinary looking guy who resembled a scholar more than a thief...

Alokwe:  I've read and heard from quite a few sources that Lou frequently uses racist epithet in the gym ( Georgie Benton also made this claim), I'm wondering if this movie would include any of that. I somehow doubt it since Big Lou has a way of revising history to his advantage, like claiming he specifically told Meldrick to box the twelfth round (against JC Superstar) ,"don't fight" he claims to have said because Taylor had the bout in the bag at that point. Of course replays showed this to not be the case...or him claiming Meldrick nodded in the affirmative when Steele asked if he was okay to continue despite replays showing he wasn't paying any attention to Steele and instead was TOTALLY distracted by Lou who at that point was on the apron, trying (typically) to bully and distract the REFEREE at a point when his fighter was in trouble......like he did when Tua landed that late punch against Rahman in 1998.

El Maromero:  That Chavez fight was the first time that I'd seen a boxing match on tv.I remember everyone in the house going crazy after Chavez won

Radam G @ Alokwe:  You heard WRONG! Lou use boxing talk, boxing "epithet(s)" in the gym. Some terms that are used in the boxing gyms, self-righteous, meddling, reformist, hypersensitive nut jobs classified them as racist. U.S. politically correct grandstanders claim that you cannot say certain foods and animals when referring to certain ethnic groups. Lou is old school and has/had a hard time with political correctness, especially in the privacy of a professional boxing gym where you pay big money to use, because you make big money for getting in that squared jungle. $hit! TSS Knuckleheads, fakers, posers, busters and faders call me a racist for using coiioquialism and boxing maxims and metaphors in this Universe. More of these fanfaronades could not be anywhere near a gym or in boxing because of their imagined, distorted world of mass racism in boxing. The best race in this pain game is GREEN! Racing to get to paid by dealing out whup-arse. Nobody gives a darn about you if you cannot fight or won't fight -- the heck with your race. And if you are so thin skinned about an epithet from a teasing fat man, boxing is not for you, even if somebody is using "racist epithet(s)." Boxing is LOVE and WAR! And everything is fair in LOVE and WAR! Holla!

Jason:  After Golota had spent the early rounds with an all out blitzkrieg on Bowe's crotch, Duva tried to stop him by shouting, "You've gotta go to the head with this guy, you've gotta got to the head with this guy!" The psychological ploy didn't work. I also remember him on that stretcher after the riot, where the pallbearers almost dropped him. He said he'd have been safer back in the ring. Should be an interesting movie.

Smiley C:  Dangit! Jason, are you an undertaker aka funeral director or something? Man, orderlies, paramedics and fans almost dropped him. Not pallbearers. Those guys carry you to your grave for that dirt nap fo' sure!
Saturday Jan 23, 2010 05:25:01 PM
Jason @ Smiley C:  I know, it was a poor attempt at humor. When I recalled the image, that's what came to mind. I just watched the clip of that riot on youtube. I think Golota was having a classic case of roid rage to set that in motion.

Angie And Goody...23 Years Later
Twenty three years later after they seconded Marvin Hagler and Ray Leonard in Las Vegas, Goody Petronelli and Angelo Dundee crossed paths again. This time, it was at Foxwoods. Photo/friend of TSS "The Iceman" John Scully reports there were only pleasantries exchanged. Goody didn't debate the split decision victory enjoyed by Leonard, which to this day Hagler disputes.
