COWBOYS STADIUM HITS A GUSHER

LANDING PACQUIAO-CLOTTEY

WORLD WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP!

SATURDAY, MARCH 13, 2010

COWBOYS STADIUM

LIVE on PAY-PER-VIEW!

Tickets Go On Sale This Saturday! January 23

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ARLINGTON, TX (January 19, 2010) – The stars will fight, big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas!

Jerry Jones and Bob Arum, owner of the Dallas Cowboys and chairman of Top Rank, respectively, announced today that Cowboys Stadium would be the site of

THE EVENT: MANNY PACQUIAO vs. JOSHUA CLOTTEY, World Welterweight Championship. Promoted by Top Rank, in association with the Dallas Cowboys and Tecate, Pacquiao vs. Clottey will take place Saturday, March 13 and will be produced and distributed  live on HBO Pay-Per-View®, beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

This marks one of the biggest world championship fights to be held in a major U.S. sports stadium since the Muhammad Ali – Ken Norton World Heavyweight Championship in Yankee Stadium in 1976, also promoted by Top Rank.

Pacquiao and Clottey boast a combine record of 85-6-2 (59 KOs) -- a winning percentage of 91% and a victory by knockout ratio of nearly 70%.

Tickets to Pacquiao vs. Clottey go on sale This Saturday! January 23 at 10 a.m. CT.  Priced at $700, $500, $300, $200, $100, and $50,g tickets can be purchased

in-person at the Cowboys Stadium box office in Arlington, or by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.  Tickets can also be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com.

“I have wanted to bring a major boxing event to North Texas for many years, so why not bring in the biggest and the best?” asked Jones.  “Manny Pacquiao is boxing’s No. 1 pound for pound attraction and the world champion. Manny defending his title against Joshua Clottey is not just a great fight, it is THE EVENT, and one we can showcase to the fullest in Cowboys Stadium.  We’re going to promote this like it was the Super Bowl.”

Cowboys Stadium will be configured for over 40,000 fans for THE EVENT with elevated floor seating similar to NBA games.

“Jerry Jones knows exactly how big and important THE EVENT is which is why it was so easy to put this deal together,” said Arum.  “As a lifelong Giants fan I had to receive special dispensation from Steve Tisch, the Giants’ Chairman and Executive Vice President, to bring this event to Cowboys Stadium and he blessed the deal.  If Jerry could sell me on Cowboys Stadium and the North Texas market, you know he is going to have no problems selling out Cowboys Stadium on March 13.  We are ready to roll up our sleeves and promote Manny’s debut as World Welterweight Champion.  Manny Pacquiao is the lone star of boxing.  There isn’t a more appropriate place in the world for him to fight! Like Yankee Stadium, when it hosted so many great world title fights featuring Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson and Ali, I feel a new era in boxing is about to begin at Cowboys Stadium.”

"We are excited to be a part of Pacquiao vs. Clottey and the first-ever boxing event from Cowboys Stadium," said Mark Taffet of HBO Pay-Per-View. "March 13 should be a memorable night for pay-per-view boxing fans."

Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs), of General Santos City, Philippines, will be defending the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title he earned in his last fight, produced by a 12th round knockout of three-time world champion Miguel Cotto.  Pacquiao’s victory made him the first man to win seven titles in as many different weight divisions, with his last three world championships coming by way of knockout. The consensus Fighter of the Year for the third time in the past four years, Pacquiao’s resume features victories over future Hall of Famers, including Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Lopez and Cotto. His knockout victories over Cotto and Hatton made him the 2009 pay-per-view king, exceeding two million buys combined.

Clottey (35-3, 21 KOs), a native of Accra, Ghana, now fighting out of Bronx, NY, captured the International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight title in 2008 by trouncing three-time world champion Zab Judah.  His career has been a highlight reel of thrills featuring victories over two-division world champion Diego Corrales and undefeated contender Richard Gutierrez and a close decision loss to world champion Antonio Margarito. In his last fight, Clottey lost a controversial split decision to defending WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden. Clottey is currently world-rated No. 1 by the WBO and No. 4 by the World Boxing Association (WBA).

The Pacquiao vs. Clottey pay-per-view telecast, beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, has a suggested retail price of $49.95, will be produced and distributed by HBO Pay-Per-View® and will be available to more than 71 million pay-per-view homes. The telecast will be available in HD-TV for those viewers who can receive HD. HBO Pay-Per-View®, a division of Home Box Office, Inc., is the leading supplier of event programming to the pay-per-view industry.  For Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight week updates, log on to www.hbo.com

Radam G @RG Clone:  Real childish, CLONE! Maybe Editor Mike will start running you off. He knows me from you. Clone dude, you are agitating the knuckleheads who are feeling like life has shortchanged them, so they blame it on some deep pockets and/or deep culture-and-wealth-blessed dude(s). Man, I'm trying to not cause those shrunken-brains, fat stomachs guys to boil with anger. Next thing, they will be cussing me out because one of them had a heart-attack. Anger ain't no joke. It will make you have a severe stroke. Cyberspace ain't no joke either. Man, their is scuttlebutt that there are a rash of people being hospitalized for internet schizophrenia, depression and bipolar disorders. Maybe you CLONE dude should have a heart and look into that paradox. I'm back in Cali -- I didn't even continue on the Pac-Clot tour to the Big Apple. I didn't want to get any apple worms, lmfao and just being facetious, so don't any New Yorkers start jumping up in my grill. I just like to JOKE! Just gettin my clowning on -- yall kno' dat. Life is too short to be so tight-arse serious. Like the oldtimers use to say," Be loosey-goosey'!" Hey! These tickets are cheap. At least the man on the street, as Teddy Altas calls low-income working people, can afford them and see the greatest boxer of this era live and on the biggest HDTV SCREEN in the world at a sporting event. Billionaire Jimmy Jones has outdone the ancient Egyptian, Romans, Chinese and Greeks for the staging of a blood-spilling event of legal mayhem. This bout will do well at the live gate and with PPV sellouts. A gathering of the most billionaires sitting together and viewing a sporting event is a big coup for Jerry Jones. Whoever thought that he could do this, and bring the two pugilists to a press conference on the day of the birthday of Howard Huges -- the first billionaire of the world in cold cash? HH is probably smiling his arse off behind those Pearly Gates. Holla!

FE'ROZ :  Like they say in Texas: Get Big... or get Out. And this fight is going to be big. Jerry Jones has a big stake in it's success, in Dallas per se and the future of his Coliseum . And now, with the premier fighter in the world fighting, he has his Gladiator. In front of what will in all likelihood be upwards of 40,000 strong, this will be boxing, once again, on the big stage. Personally, I am excited by this fight for as much as I enjoy watching Manny Pacquiao fight, I think Joshua Clottey is dangerous and absolutely capable of hurting.... and maybe...beating him. Now I'm not making any comparisons but I remember being in awe of Corrales after he came back to beat Castillo only to watch in dismay as he lost effortlessly to the bigger Clottey. I was third row at the Garden in June and I can tell you without question that you could hear Clottey's hooks thundering off of Cotto. Not once in a while... but three at a time. Manny (and Clottey) has his work cut out for him... and I'll be tuned in to watch them both do their job.
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 04:26:45 PM
Rico Sioting of the Philippines:  I think the peek a boo style of Clottey will be easily demolished by Manny since Pacman has done so adherently to such kind of defence in his early fights...When Manny sticks his right hand over your face and unleashes his menacin' left, Lights out for u, Joshua...Since Joshua will stand toe to toe with Manny, he'll last for seven rounds...but I assure all of you this will be a brutal fight....:o)
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 04:44:46 PM
donputo69:  LETS GET IT ON....cant wait for this fight to happen....im leaning toward clottey on this one...but is still early...i will make my final prediction on march 12...anyway...i hope is a good fight...holla back!!!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 04:54:12 PM
#1 PacFan "Pacquiao-Clottey @147!":  I have never seen Clottey hurt at all throughout his career. He has that intimadating look to him where opponents cannot overlook. Clottey has a very tight defense but is penetrable. His ribs are exposed when on the defensive which is why Manny will right HOOK him there. Then the hands will eventually lower and exchanges begin. I don't believe Clottey has the power to stop Manny but if you accumulate the punches it can happen. If Manny can't hurt the rock-solid chinned Clottey, he must dart in and out side to side with his punches. I see it as UD for Manny Pacquiao.
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 04:56:33 PM
#1 PacFan "Pacquiao-Clottey @147!":  Come on Don, when was the last time Manny in a boring fight? Never! Can't wait for this one.

donputo69 @#1PacFan:  ?????????...holla back!!!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 05:04:21 PM
#1 PacFan "Pacquiao-Clottey @147!":  @Don, you said, you hope is a good fight. No, it's going to be a great fight! Jets better pressure Manning or else he going to pick them apart. I give them a good chance for the upset.
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 05:07:16 PM
#1 PacFan "Pacquiao-Clottey @147!":  Check out time. Get back at ya'll later. Payce!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 05:09:20 PM
donputo69 @#1PacFan:  lol...oh ok...yeah...but clottey can bored during the fight...thats why i said i hope is a good fight...lol...as for my JETS?...we're gonna put a beating on manny and show them that week 16 was not a fluke win...lol...J-E-T-S jets jets jets!!!! holla back!!!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 05:15:32 PM
FE'ROZ :  The Don is right. This is a great fight IF Clottey stays focused for twelve rounds. The first 6 to 8 should be great regardless.
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 05:17:44 PM
not so solid chin clottey:  Clottey was knocked down by a Cotto jab, so his chin is not that solid, I think the reason we haven't seen him wobbled is more due to his high guard. As soon as Pac connects with something solid, lights out! Easy fight for Pac
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 05:19:41 PM
donputo69:  This fight is gonna be a good fight...i can see it already...the only people that says this fight is gonna be a wack fight are the kenducky floyd chicken nutthugers....im going so far with clottey on this one...but my prediction can change at anytime...holla back!!!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 05:44:28 PM
Radam G:  If Clottey peek-a-boo, he gets knocked the fudge out in two. If he fights in retreat, he will be 10 round before he is beat. If he goes mano-a-mano, his torso and noggins will be busted up in six, and the ref will stop it because with Manny no one can mix. And in the words of da Don, about this fight like me bite -- "you heard it here, first! holla back, ladies! Holla!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 05:49:47 PM
Radam G:  *it will be...
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 05:54:38 PM
donputo69 about to hit the gym:  I change my prediction....im picking manny on this one...speed, power, smarter...but then again...i can change my mind again...holla back!!!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 06:08:04 PM
NEWV:  .... JUAN MANUEL LOPEZ ?? hehehehe
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 08:21:32 PM
ali @ #1 Pacfan:  Is Pac going to stop Clottey.....If he does u know he's on somethen cause Clottey has never been hurt if he has I have never seen it just like u.
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 08:51:14 PM
donputo69 @ali:  Why you say that?...so now all of a sudden if pacquaio knocksout ANYBODY, he's on steroids...lmfaooo....the reason why clottey's never been hurt is because of his great defense...And like Radam said....IF CLOTTEY PEEK-A-BOO and pacquaio for any chance lands a good one on the chin, is gonna be pippi mimi for clottey....THATS THE ONLY REASON CLOTTEY NEVER BEEN HURT...BTW...didnt clottey did a peek-a-boo against cotto and he got knockdown with a jab?...you see what i mean?...so you cant say pacquiao is on something...holla back!!!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 09:11:26 PM
Smiley C:  Like Radam, DaveB, Solo, MisterLee, #1Pacfan and Saint say, Pacquiao is on good Filipino Balut and some other Filipino foods and whoopa$$. Haters need to get a life fo' sure!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 09:23:57 PM
#1 PacFan "Pacquiao by UD":  @Don, if he won't dictate the action Manny will. If Clottey retreats Manny will be on hunt mode that's what makes Manny such an exciting fighter. If Cotto can make a good action fight with Clottey so can Manny. I wouldn't mind seeing the JETS in the Super Bowl, first rookie QB and coach to reach Super Bowl. @Ali, I wouldn't be surprised if Clottey was stopped by Manny. You have to remember that Cotto was not literally stopped it was the referree who stopped it. I know I said that Manny would've eventually stopped him but after watching it over and over Cotto wasn't really that fazed. It wasn't the type of punishment from Margcheato. The only way Manny KO's him is if he lands one of those vicious money shot like the one he landed on Hatton. Or if Manny just keeps on punishing him throughout the fight where he wears him down. I'm really not too critical on the PED's issue anymore. It didn't help Mosley one bit and he's a much bigger guy compared to Pac.
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 10:11:18 PM
Radam G:  Holla !!!!! Clotty is a bum and does not throw punches if anybody is buying this fight is a fool. Holla i don't know why I always say that Holla back Holla!!!!!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 10:14:25 PM
#1 PacFan "Pacquiao by UD":  @not so solid chinned, I'm not taking anything away from Cotto's power but we all know that Clottey ran into that punch and was off balance.
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 10:14:38 PM
FE'ROZ :  Constant 'Pops-inspired' innuendo about Manny's performances now being followed by consistent denigration (both new and revised) of both his past and present opponents is giving new definition to Pathetic. Sad actually. Joshua Clottey, Paul Williams, Shane Mosely, Andre Berto, Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto have been fighting at welterweight for years. They have all been waiting for big fights for years. Thankfully, while they wait, they have given us many between them as well. And now as their ranks are being systematically reduced by a smaller man with the heart of lion and a dedication and work rate of an elite tri-athlete. Manny Pacquiao, instead of enjoying the gift, we her the conversation shift. There is no reason whatsoever to hate/denigrate a great fighter in a sport you love; especially one that has made his living the hard way giving the fans the fights the want to see. Sometimes two and three times. Manny will fight anyone. He said again just today that he wants and expects to fight Floyd this year. So first Cotto, then Clottey and then the next willing Welterweight, Manny has lined them all up. What more can you want in this sport you claim to love. We have here a man, like Roberto Duran, who will fight Anyone. Line 'em up. And please, the five of you who have nothing nice to say about a man who has given us nothing but blood, valor and honor ever four months IN THE RING, do like our mother's taught and/or should have taught us. If you truly have nothing nice to say, say less. It would be a shame for your lack of objectivity to be matched by a lack of credibility. pc

donputo69 @Fe'Roz:  AMEN...holla back!!!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 11:09:04 PM
#1 PacFan "Pacquiao by UD":  Great post Fe'Roz! I'm voting that one for "Quote Of the Year" for damn sure.
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 11:37:31 PM
FE'ROZ @ Dp69:  Don, every couple hours I check for the announcement that Floyd has Insisted that his team sign to fight Shane. If he is his own boss, then it is his call and his alone. Just ask the lawyers to get the contract faxed over and sign it. Simple. The dotted line just needs his name on it. Meanwhile every three hours we get another article about Manny. Now Arum is talking about Margarito this summer in ....get this...the new 85,000 seat Meadowlands. In NYC!!! So first Cotto, now Clottey and then Margarito!! And all the while Shane, the most deserving welterweight champion, is not only forced to go without a tune-up but he is still forced to wait even longer. No January tune-up. Just a chance, and that is all it is, that he gets to meet Floyd. After what will be a 16 month lay-off ! Great !! Well, at least he hasn't made the same promise not-kept by Bernard. That he would retire at 40. Otherwise, we might still be waiting. In the meantime, I'm watching what I do know. Manny Pacquiao cleaning out the Welterweight Division. And that my brother is what I call Great!!!
Wednesday Jan 20, 2010 11:43:54 PM
kountedout:  its going to be a tough fight. if manny tries to go toe 2 toe with clottey that will be the wrong game plan. manny dont really know how to fight inside. if you remember when cotto was hitting him to the body all manny did was stand straight up which is bad and squared up which is worse and held his hand high to his head. clottey walks around at 170-175. if they dont have stipulations that he cant weigh no more then a certain weight after the weighin then its going to be a very tough fight.
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 12:38:39 AM
FE'ROZ @ knockedout:  That's what I expect. And look forward to seeing.
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 12:43:11 AM
Radam G:  That last clone of me is_______. No one and dey mommas have ever heard me refer to Clotty as a bum. PacMan doesn't fight bums. He tangles with the cream of the crop -- those at the top. No time to waste on bums. With the Pac, you never need to take Tums. We know who will give you a stomachache with cherry picking, and his fanfaronades, he keep tricking. Holla!
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 02:03:16 AM
Isaiah:  Pacquiao by UD. That's the most likely outcome. There better be no weight stipulation though. 147 or bust. As far as how much they weigh after the weigh in, that's a tough call. Oh, another thing... KenDUCKy Floyd Chicken I hear, is the most popular restaurant of cowards, fakes, the obsessed and people who can't look past smoke screens and mirrors that the world has ever seen. Cmon now, you know it's in my contract to insult Floyd Mayweather on a regular basis. I wonder how much of it you can call insulting if it's true. I hear Floyd is sparring with the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man. Got to keep on being soft you know. Hey, see! He does fight bigger guys! You all know why Floyd likes Las Vegas so much? It's because he has cherry picked more then a line of the luckiest fortune tellers at the MGM Grand's slot machines. I kid, Floyd is a great business man. I hear he's the next model for Gerbers baby food. I hear from a reliable source that Scooby Doo calls him a coward every day. Fate is cruel you all. WIth who's earned what in this sport, shouldn't it be Floyd Mayweather begging for a shot at Shane Mosley and not the other way around? Boy, how many mentally retarded fans are there in the world? Get this. I was talking with some teenage punk kid the other day and this was arguement of why he was a Floyd Mayweather fan. "Dawg, Mayweather knocked out the Big Show and he's just so awesome! Yey!" I swear I just didn't know what to say. Sometimes, something is just too insanely wrong that no matter your arguement, you can't convince someone otherwise. Floyd! You want to make big money and challenge Manny's Pacquiao's Pay Per View and Pound for Pound status? Your're not going to do it walking with your bonnet through the cherry fields. Shane Mosley getting old waiting. Or is that still the plan and he still isn't old enough? Just sign the contract already, for real!
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 02:41:03 AM
Isaiah:  BREAKING NEWS! NO JOKE! MARACHEATO IS COMING BACK AND WILL PROBALY BE LICSENSED IN TEXAS! I HOPE MIGUEL COTTO IS LOOKING IN HIS DIRECTION. PAYBACK AND KARMA IS A .... YOU FILL IN THE BLANKS.
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 03:17:36 AM
The Saint:  To have Margarito on the Pacquiao vs Clottey undercard is a bad move for Arum. Margarito is a proven cheater, and no doubt jokes and articles will spread all over the net about two cheaters being on the same card (with the other "cheater" being Pacquiao, although absolutely no evidence exists to substantiate that). I used to admire Margarito and I'd like to see him get back to the top of the rankings and have a rematch with Cotto and Williams. I don't think illegal handwraps are enough to make a monster out of any mediocre fighter, at least not the kind that Margarito got caught with. Heck I don't think it even really did anything for Margarito. It's probably just one of those old school myths that trainers believe will give their fighter the edge. It obviously didn't do Margarito any good against Paul Williams, Daniel Santos and Joshua Clottey. Unfortunately for Margarito, he's never been marketable and he damaged the marketability of Miguel Cotto and Kermit Cintron among others, and boxing needed a scapegoat to resusitate the marketability of those fighters. Essentially, their losses "didn't count" because Margarito cheated. If anything, I think Margarito's got titanium on his jaw and that's what should be investigated, not his fists. At any rate, I hope that Margarito could continue his path of destruction. Those who want him banned for life know in their hearts that the illegal handwraps were just an excuse to burn Margarito and even without them, Margarito would've done the same to Cotto and everyone else he has destroyed. I know that even if Margarito wore pillows he'd still beat the snot out of Cintron.
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 09:57:02 AM
kountedout@Isaiah:  yeah ur right, margarito is licensed in texas. he is fighting carson jones on the undercard of clottey/pacquiao. i mentioned the stipulations bc even though they are fighting at 147, i hope team pacquiao dont have a weight that he has to weigh the day of the fight. when pacquiao fought cotto there was a clause in the contract that he couldnt gain no more then 5 pounds the day of the fight. thats almost impossible for cotto to win any fight like that bc he would be weak after 3 rounds. i dont know how much you weight but imagine coming down to the lowest weight you can to make a fight and then not being able to eat after the weigh in and get all proper nutritions back in your systems. think about it when cotto use to make 140 the day of the fight he would be 154. clottey walks around at 170-175. that would make a lot of difference if they say that he cant weigh more then 5 pounds the day of the fight. he also would be a weak fighter. i hope its not true. but that is not boxing because the fighter is fighting the scale rather than fighting manny. I feel ya about talking to guys that dont have a clue about boxing. hahaha
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 09:58:46 AM
MisterLee:  Not that solid: You need to look up the definition of "flash knockdown" fo' sure! This is when you knock someone down b/c they were off balance vs. they were hurt and downed by a good punch. Check out round 2 of Pacquiao Morales 2, Round 1 when Williams downed Sergio Martinez vs. Martinez's last minute knockdown on WIlliams, and Collazos' knockdown on Berto fo' sure! When a real knockdown occurs, the fighter loses their legs for half a round or more. This did not happen with Clottey, he fought harder! ANYWAY, my HEART: Clottey by TKO within 10 rounds, my BRAIN says: Pacquiao by lopsided decision with Clottey bloodied up but never down. I go with my heart, Clottey by late round TKO. Too big, too strong, to solid, and too much pressure for pac-meister. Respects. Holler!
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 10:04:32 AM
Ching Lee's p4p list:  Caveman has it! 1.) Manny Pacquiao 2.) Sugar Shane Mosley 3.) Sergio Martinez 4.) Bernard Hopkins 5.) Nonito Donaire. Holler!
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 10:29:03 AM
#1 PacFan "Pacquiao-Clottey @147!":  @kountedout, I don't agree with you when you say they had a clause where Cotto wasn't allowed to weigh no more than 5 pounds. I've never heard that before. After I heard that rumors circulated that Cotto was drained in the fight but I had my uncle who has close ties with Pac Camp and they said Cotto was able to rehydrate back up to 151. Now I don't really know it this is true but that's what he told me and that's who I get my info's from at times. But if you do have that information about the clause I'll gladly confirm it to everyone else. Payce.
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 10:59:16 AM
#1 PacFan "Pacquiao-Clottey @147!":  @Isaiah, it's confirmed that the fight will take place at 147. The crooked ones at Pacquiao's camp tried to bring it down to 145 but was unable to. The fight is signed for 147 so it's not going to be Pacquiao's fault if he doesnt' rehydrate up to 170. I think he will come into the fight around 160 cause 170 is unheard of. If it was 154 then it's understandable but not 147.
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 11:04:37 AM
LC:  I want to go to TEXAS now and see this fight!!!!! It's gonna be the best exciting fight of 2010. It might even be a FOTY candidate.
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 11:29:20 AM
THE REAL RG:  Bad start of year, detrimental year, The loss of so many arses, so close, so soon, I'm confused!!, so surprisingly!! But i guess it could be heavens again. Destiny has chosen me. So many haters to demise from this topsy-turny life. Nothing else can i say. I'm the chosen!!! Holla!!
Thursday Jan 21, 2010 11:55:23 AM
The Saint:  @kountedout: Regarding Cotto rehydrating back to 154 on fight night back when he was fighting at 140 and Clottey supposedly walking around at 170 to 175, I think the REAL issue is that they are fighting BELOW their natural weightclass to have the upperhand. Back in the days (whenever that was) fighters actually fought in the weightclass they truly belonged in. Some boxers have the ability to make weight that other boxers their size won't be able to make without significantly weakening themselves. Thomas Hearns was a great example, Gerald McClellan was too, but I think the best example was the biggest fraud of them all, Oscar De La Hoya, who debuted professionally as a jr. lightweight when even at that age, he could've easily fought as a super lightweight. For years he feasted on midgets (it was poetic justice that DLH got the worst beating of his life at the hands of one!) against whom he had a ridiculous advantage in size and strength. This practice has become the norm today with boxers with star potential as their promoters and handlers want to stack the odds in their favor as much as possible, and one of the best ways to do it is to have their potential cash cow fight against those who are naturally smaller and weaker. It takes a top nutrionist/conditioning expert to ensure that their fighter makes weight in a safe manner but the pay off is more than worth it. Pacquiao may be a small welterweight, but part of that reason is most of the top welterweights should at the very least be jr. middleweights if not full blown middleweights, such as Cintron and Paul Williams (at least Williams seems to have abandoned the welterweight division for the time being). My point is, if fighters are going to put on 10lbs or more after the weigh in, that tells me they don't belong in the weight class and they are essentially cheating the system.

#1 PacFan "Pacquiao-Clottey @147!":  Good point Saint, I never actually looked at it like that. That makes good sense like Manny campaigning at 130 in the latter stage of his career. He would weigh in at 129-130 but would rehydrate as high as 144(Morales 2,3 Marquez 2). It comes to show that Manny was struggling to make that weight.

Radam G:  Wow! All this clutter, jabberwocky and poppycock from this Universe is amazing! And if anybody let that CLONE and clones get to you, that is on you. I'm one of the LUCKY players in THIS life. And I must admit that I'm a hard charge to help _____people, especially lazy, sorry, fake muthas! Chosen me, my arse! I've told God already that I won't ask HIM for jack. Let me live my life and don't do ___ for me! Hearing voices from God don't work for me. Ain't doing jack for God until I see His FACE! I pay my tites, donate to charity, and help the down-and-out people, not the lazy-and-up ones. So "THE REAL RG," you are one phony fudger trying to represent me. I'm earth based. I make my choices for what I see and know. No b*tch named "Destiny" better not try to chose me. And everybody, haters and lovers, money makers and fibbing-tongue fakers, faders and graders, is going to "demise from this topsy-turny (sic) life." A great warrior once said: "LIFE is a B*tch, then ya fu*king die." I am living my way until that mutha named DEATH come. The sucka is probably Destiny's pimp! Holla!

Radam G:  For the record, all the alphabet organizations have a rule -- apparently not enforced in recent years -- that if a pugilist gains more than 15 pounds after weight in and before the start of the bout, he is fined 10 percent of his purse. (Why don't you readers just go to the organization websites and learn this for yourself.) Back until 1988, fighters use to weight in the morning of the bout. So back then you had more of an equal playing squared jungle. It is very true! Starting in the 1990s, fighters in certain weight classes became bigger. Day-of-the-fight excessively rehydrating is dangerous. That is why the rules changed. Many fighters were getting killed in the ring because that rehydration was causing water intoxication and swelling of veins and brains. When a person dries out, not only does his body weight shrinks, but his brains size shrinks, and excessively rehydration gives him too much water in the belly. When the belly is hit, it sends a water signal toward the shrunken brain. The brain goes in a panic mode and cannot take that much water. the water moves quickly and start rupturing veins and arteries leading to the brain, thus causing the brain to swell quickly for protection of perceived invaders. This is so the brain will not violently bang itself against the skull. This overswellen in that skull is the cause of so many boxers' death, because of the pressure put on the brain. PacMan is fighting at an underweight at 147. He'd never rehydration to a bloated 155lbs to 160lbs. No matter what weight, Clottey comes in the night of the bout, it won't change PacMan's come-in weight or game. When Manny fought at 130lbs, during the night of the bout, he was always 142lbs to 148lbs. He will continue to fight his naturat weight like the oldtimers use to do. They'd weight in two or three hours before the bouts. Manny is oldschool, and he fights in his real weight and knock Clottey out. Holla!

Radam G@Destiny:  Wow! Apparently you need a dictionary. What I wrote is not called "plagiarism." Anything that is not my originating scribble quotation marks are around it. Nextly, I said a b*tch named Destiny. And there are people and animals name "Destiny." The Destiny I was talking about is a 14-year-old hounddog. Do you have fleas and have had 40 puppies in your lifetime? Is so, take my deepest apology. I'm definitely talking about your arse. That is the way the ball bounces. Get spayed, b*tch, lmfao! Holla!

kountedout:  also look at oscar when he fought manny. do you think oscar is that dumb to come in at 145 when he knows thats the reason he took the fight so he could hold the size advantage. are you telling me that oscar wanted to come in at 145? no he came in at 145 bc there was a clause in the contract to where he had to weighin at 145 not 147 and he couldnt gain anymore weigh either. thats only common sense to see that. if you look at the cotto/pacquiao tale of the tape they didn't show how much cotto weighed the day of the fight. just like they didnt show how much floyd weighed the day of the fight against marquez. cotto hits pretty hard and im going to give you 2 reasons why manny took those punches. either he was on steroids or cotto was weak. now you take either one and use it how you want but it is what it is. its not a secret that cotto is a good puncher and manny is not known for taking a good punch.

The Saint:  @kountedout: You shouldn't really resort to making up stuff. There was absolutely no clause for DLH to weigh in at 145. DLH dictated the terms. He pursued Pacquiao because he thought it would be another easy fight against a blown up featherweight, Oscar's favorite dish. The fight was at 147. If you remember the broadcast, Pacquiao weighed in at 142, about 3 pounds less than what he weighed at his hotel room minutes before the official weigh in. There was some speculation that HBO didn't really dwell on (and decided to cover up by stating that DLH weighed in unofficially after the official weigh in, confirming Oscar's weight of 145 as being accurate), that the official scales were tampered with because Oscar didn't make weight. There was a 3-pound differential between Pacquiao's personal scale and the official scale. Oscar most likely really weighed 148 and not 145.
