Malignaggi Explains Why He Should Fight Mayweather

By Michael Woods

Just one problem if Floyd Mayweather fights Paulie Malignaggi. Who the heck are the fans going to root for?

Two guys who typically wear the villain hat, facing off...What are viewers who aren't in the Floyd circle of love or Paulie's Brooklyn crew gonna do? Flip a coin?

TSS chatted with the New York based junior welterweight, who like all of us is waiting to hear what's next for Floyd after the Manny-Money megafight went off the tracks. Mouthy Malignaggi made a strong case for why he, and not Matthew Hatton, or Nate Campbell, or Ivan Calderon (LOL) should get to glove up with Mayweather.

"I'm not sure what's going on with a Mayweather fight, I'm hearing a lot of rumors," Paulie said Tuesday afternoon. "I know my name is in the mix."

His name isn't in the mix to face Manny Pacquiao, he said, which flies in the face of those who maintained that his stance that Pacquiao might well have been using PEDs was merely a ploy to land a Pacquiao scrap. You'll recall that Malignaggi talked to TSS on Dec. 31 and put forth some of his opinions on why he thought Manny's rise might not be purely man-made (http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxing-article/7579/paul-malignaggi-explains-why-thinks-manny-used-peds/).

"I think that story ended my chances of fighting Manny. My name was in the mix. I think Team Pacquiao is scared what I might say, that I might shine more light on them. If as some say I'm not in Manny's caliber, my name wouldn't have come up. I think it was about the fear of me opening my mouth.

"As for Nate Campbell fighting Floyd l I think Richard Schaefer is just putting that out because Nate is with Golden Boy. That said I can't say he doesn't deserve it. But it's all up in the air. I'm waiting," he said.

"I think I'm the best junior welterweight, over Tim Bradley or Amir Khan. Bradley is no joke. Hey I'm not saying I'm the best pound for pounder in the world, I'm saying I'm the best junior welterweight. Put me in with anybody and they have their hands full.  2008 is my problem. I had a trainer that didn't know what he was doing with me. I wasted a lot years. It took me a long time to get the right team together. It's no coincidence that I went straight down and came straight back up. 2008 shouldn't exist. I can make the case that I'm the best junior welter in the world, power or no power."

Pro Pacman fans come on this board and hammer Malignaggi for his bravado. They slam him for his lack of pop--he has just five KOs in 27 wins--and the fighter is tired of hearing and reading that slam.

"My game has nothing to do with power, and power had nothing to do with any of my fights, except for the Cotto fight. Lack of power is never the issue, that's not why I have lost. The media and fans are all into power, the media should all get a hobby. These guys are so moronic, all they can come up with is 2008." Onward and upward, the Twitter Hitter said.  I will have only good performances from here on out.  If I can fight twelve rounds and I can control things, it isn't about power."

Of the names being thrown in the mix for Floyd's next bout, Malignaggi's mouth would do the most in the marketing department. Course, Floyd doesn't really need any help in that arena, but the hype-o-rama counting down to Mayweather-Malignaggi would be something, wouldn't it?

"Anyway, whether I get it or not is up to Team Mayweather. But I'm the most marketable of the guys mentioned. Could he pick Matthew Hatton over me? I don't know how. He hasn't held a title. That should eliminate him. He's so low on the ladder."

If he does get Floyd, Malignaggi says his speed, which Zab Judah and Oscar De La Hoya used to good effect before Floyd made adjustments, would make it hard for Mayweather.

"Floyd is the best fighter in the world because he's the smartest fighter in the world," Malignaggi said. "It's about the adjustments he makes. It's not that he's impenetrable, flawless. He's just the most complete fighter I've ever seen. The trick with him is to maintain your speed and consistency. "

The book on Floyd has been that a pressure rumbler like Jose Luis Castillo is his Kryptonite, but Malignaggi says Floyd's grown so much since he met Castillo, in 2002, that a rumbler wouldn't be his worst nightmare.

"I'd keep Floyd on his back foot, not getting off so much. I'm a speed guy, I don't get reckless. I do little bursts and then leave you there. I know how to fight Floyd, make him do things he doesn't want to do.

The media backlash could get pretty intense if Mayweather goes from entertaining a clash with top pound for pounder Pacquiao, to a clash with a guy who's the second best boxer in his own family, Matt Hatt. Malignaggi recognizes this, and bolsters his case why he should get the plum assignment.

"I'm 29. I'm in my prime. And I'm not gonna be like, 'I'm happy to do this,' and be like Hatton, all respectful and nice. I won't be run of the mill 'I respect my opponent,' 'I'm in shape,' all that corny stuff on the podium."

The New Yorker sees he and Mayweather in the same boat, often hammered my media and fans because they aren't cookie-cutter sportsmen, humble hitters revered for their Everyday Joe personas.

"I'm in the same boat as Floyd, though he is definitely the best in the world. I know he's accomplished more.  But guys like us, whatever we accomplish, it's never enough, people still s--- on us. It's based on envy and jealousy from the media and fans. If you ask me about boxing, I'll tell you I'm good. I'm gonna give it to you the way I see it. Most guys would be the same way if they were in my shoes, or Floyd's. People hate us, people do tune in to see us lose. They say, 'I'm not watching his next fight,' and they do. A million people watched him against Juan Manuel Marquez. My fights on HBO always are among the highest rated. No matter people say, they can all s--- my ----.  They will tune in to watch Paulie Malignaggi fight."

Can the public handle a villain vs. villain scrap?

"It makes for an interesting situation," Malignaggi said. "People do want a guy to root for. But if we do fight, people will not be sure what we're gonna say or do. And we both do know how to fight."

Of any of the rumored foes for Mayweather I've heard, Malignaggi makes as much or more sense to me than any of them. Maybe 140 is a little light for Floyd at this time, though, so would that put Paulie out of the running?

"It'd probably be at 147 which isn't a problem because I've been at 140 for almost eight years so it's a good excuse to see how I feel at 147," Malignaggi said.

140, 147, whatever, you know the kid's mouth will still function, whatever the weight. Bottom line--the countdown to the bout would feature all-star trashtalk, and the bout would be a purists' delight.

I'm game. Paulie is. Next move is Mayweathers'...

SALT lover:  I have deep respect for Paul Malignaggi. The man's mouth is uncontrollable, but there's TRUTH in it everytime he talks. This is something he said and is the complete Truth: "Guys like us (Him and Floyd), whatever we accomplish, it's never enough, people still ---- on us. It's based on envy from the media and fans.".........exactly. Floyd Mayweather Jr (40-0) was born to be hated, and he is also being hated for talkin' his own mind, and not being carried by the current of FANATISM that is surroundin' the sport of boxin' today. I personally don't agree with him being the next dude to fight Floyd, but if he is, then he's deserved his shot. He's been robbed from a decision against Juan Diaz and he had to fight a rematch to show why he's better, plus he was wrongfully stopped against Ricky Hatton. The ref shouldn't had stopped that fight, Malignaggi had the right to fight to the end even if he was gonna lose anyways, plus the fans (And FANATICS) are all over him for his opinions about their idol. That's just what it is, an OPINION. Well, if this fight turns in PPV, I'll buy and I'll enjoy it to the fulles, since that's what True fans do, and he's completely right when he says: "The media and fans are all into power," exactly. That's what the fans think boxin' is all about: two frontal guys beatin' their brains out, with no graceful movements. Yeah, they criticize Floyd for no punishment, but they are not the ones who gonna be takin' care of him is he gets badly hurt. I mean people loved when Ali took the risk, are those people takin' care of him now? No. Are they gonna be callin' on the phone askin' them how they are? No. Miguel Cotto got mad props for the fights against Margarito, Clottey, and Pacquiao, are those same people gonna suffer his side effects as time passes on and those punches start to take their toll on his brain when he gets older? NO! Well, I'll be watchin' Floyd no matter who he fights. Case closed. ..................................OK haters: WEIGH-IN against Floyd and Malignaggi, and start practicin' the cult on your idol, "saint" Pacquiao............

assim ali:  there is 1 reason why paulie should fight mayweather and thats because they both have speed but mayweather has more power just look at his ko record compared to paulies, and there is 1 reason why he should not fight hin and thats because mayweather will dominate him in a fight. the next opponent for mayweather should be pacquiao which i would love to see in december if not earlier or shane mosley, then we'll see if mayweather is the best. credit to floyd hes my favourite boxer but i want to see him fight better competition like mosley or pacquiao or maybe even cotto

MagicMan:  SALT lover.... You're dissing the fans and general public saying you're smarter than them for rooting for action fighters and not boring runners but you're forgetting that at the end of the day, boxing is about selling tickets and these boxers are trying to make a living and it's the fans who are paying to watch them fight. Who are you to say fans shouldn't be into power? From the beginning of time since the gladiator shows in the Roman empire, fans have always wanted to watch the gladiators who can kill the lions, not run away from them. If you want to watch Floyd and you enjoy his style, good for you. To each his own and more power to you. But don't make yourself out to be like you're some smart person who understands boxing and everybody else doesn't. LOL.

Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 06:44:23 PM
Jason:  I have no interest in Mayweather-Malignaggi, although I don't blame Paulie for lobbying for the fight. It's his best payday. But there will be tremendous backlash against Floyd and his handlers if this fight comes off. It's been said a thousand times on this site, and I'll say it again: Floyd needs to fight a legitimate welterweight, not a blown-up and feather-fisted Malignaggi, to be taken seriously at this juncture. Even Cintron will do. Although make no mistake, I'm not bubbling with joy at the prospect of Mayweather-Cintron, but at least the guy's a welterweight. And moreover, Cintron would be hands-down the best guy that Floyd's fought (in his respective weight class) since the Castillo rematch in 2002.
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 06:50:29 PM
SALT lover@Jason:  What you think of Zab Judah in 147lbs in 2006? Zab was a dangerous fighter at 147lbs when he was focused. Even Pacquiao's boss admits that was the "last legitimate Welterweight Floyd fought"......those were his words. What you think about Judah at 147lbs? Remember there were two Judahs: the one who losses to lesser fighters like Baldomir, and the dangerous one that fights like when he fought the Spinks rematch, the Cotto fight, and Floyd. I think Judah was one hell of a good fighter at 147lbs when Floyd fought him. What you think, man?

Chicago guy:  What they gonna do inside the ring, running, holding, clinching and dancing inside the ring.
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 06:58:40 PM
fight fan:  LOL, I hope Mayweather takes a fight with Malignaggi. It will prove Mayweather ducked the fight. Seriously if you know boxing, you have to respect both of these guys for what they do. I've been a boxing fan for more than 20 years. But Mayweather and Mallinagi belong on ESPN or HBO for free. They are PPV caliber fighters. Would you pay for something you already know is going to happen? Would you pay for someone to win a fucking decision? HELL NO! If I put up $60 for a PPV I want Drama, Something worth my money. Not two guys who will dance around the ring all 12 rounds. Boxing is considered a fight. Fight's need a finish. Malignaggi can't offer a finish so he will never be respected. Plain & Simple.

strykeunder2:  Malignaggi and Floyd, Jr. should be given the chance to fight. But also PLEASE bring in the Barnum Brothers Circus so it will all be complete. I can pay 5 dollars to watch this show. Avid Fan of Paul Malignaggi

Juno512:  Paulie vs. Floyd match? G R E A T! ! ! it will be like watching a cockfight with two Chicken(that is SCARED in Mayweather lingo) roosters running around trying to avoid being slash by its other. Go ahead we'll see how they will do in PPV.
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 07:15:05 PM
runner:  comon now paulie said his shows are always high rated???..... snoozers i think. runner versus runner doesnt make any sense why watch a freakig boring fight, besides 2 of the most loudmouth in the sports facing each other what a super duper stupid fight to make... id better watch pacquiao vs clottey fight a sure action packed fight.... pauli and floyd are just clowns in the ring and it would just be like dancing with the stars.. hey guess what paulie said pacquiao's camp is just hell scared of paulie comon now ur name just doesnt exist in a way of giving action packed+ drama. u doesnt even have 10 or more KO's so who the hell is going to be scared with paulie... just stupid A++ho++
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 07:16:01 PM
eewoll:  I totally agree with Paul M., they are both big stars and should be given the chance to show the world what they are capable of. And I will bet anybody that they can beat anyone when they do it together in DANCE WITH THE STARS !!! Them two are the best in the boxing world !!! You know of any other pair that can compete in Dance With The Star Contest? NOONE !!! Go go go go for Paul and Floyd, Jr.

Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 07:24:09 PM
Pacmaniaccc:  Pacman can fight these two B's (female dogs) at the same time (2 against 1) and still would beat the crap out of them and knock them both out. These two clowns can stage their fight on free TV and still nobody would watch. These two clowns are just about as irrelevant in the sport of boxing as a grain of sand in a litter box. Nobody could pay me enough money to watch these 2 clowns dance around in the ring.

Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 07:42:52 PM
Jason @ SALT:  I think Judah's a good -not great- welterweight, although I think the Judah that fought Mayweather in 2006 would lose to the current version of Cintron (although it is definitely close). Judah was damaged goods at that point. He was coming off the Baldomir loss. Prior to that, he lost to Cory Spinks in 2004, resurrected himself, won a couple, then had the biggest win of his career in the Spinks rematch. And then the enormous Baldomir letdown, which came out of left field. He's mentally weak and unpredictable. I don't really hold Judah in high regard. He's a great trial horse guy, but when he's on the big stage, he folds (the exception being the Spinks rematch and some early alphabet strap fights at light welterweight (and those really weren't big stages)). But that's just my personal opinion and I can see an argument for the 2006 Judah over the current Cintron, but I've got Cintron.

Vincent Ogawa:  Zab was the last legitimate welterweight Mayweather fought. I think Mayweather beat Zab at his best. The Cotto fight was the last time I saw Zab at his best. Unfortuneatly, it didn't help that Cotto turned his nuts to butter from the pounding below the belt. But make no mistake about it the Boricua broke him down like a scientist. If he doesn't fight Bradley then he doesn't need to square off in the ring with a Jr Welterweight. If he wants to take some of the heat off he needs to fight, Bradley, Cintron, or Williams. Or he could fight Yuri Foreman to prove a point. With that being said I think Cintron is the easiest of all the fights. He seemed to struggle against Lovemore N'dou and should have lost to Martinez. But he is legitimate welterweight. At this point Floyd needs to send a message to the boxing world Samuel L. Jackson Pulp Fiction style because he has everyone scrutnizing his every move. If he doesn't have the heart to fight anymore he needs to at least take on Pacquiao and then retire. If not then he deserves to take all the backlash!!

Jason @ SALT:  SALT - You should check out Tim Smith's opinion piece on the NY Daily News' site. It's titled 'Blame Manny Pacquiao for torpedoing fight with Floyd Mayweather.' Before bullets start flying, I'm not endorsing the opinion of the writer, just pointing it out to SALT, who's a Floyd backer and would appreciate it (if he hasn't seen it already).

aymokay:  IMO floyd will not fight anybody on March 13. But he will fight again on May. The scenario will be like this, boxing fans will be expecting that he will be fighting the winner of Mosley-Berto match, but he will disappoint again the many boxing fans because he will pick a smaller guy as his opponent.
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 08:16:39 PM
George:  Paulie got beaten badly by both Cotto and Hatton at 140 lbs.. Deep inside, he and his team know that he can no longer capture any title at 140 lbs.. Hence he had to go down to the lighter 135 lbs. just to get a title. But even at that division, he ain't the best unless he faces and beat Valero. But of course, he'll do a PBF and duck Valero at all cost. So how the hell will he have any chance of being any threat against Pacquiao or PBF or anyone at 147 lbs.? Paulie (Poly the talkative parrot), you're nothing but a LOSER. Winners always persevere at their weight division to better themselves then move up, NOT DOWN!

SALT lover@Jason:  Yeah, dude, I've read it. I was surprised to fin somethin' like this in the media. I guess Smith is the very few who goes with his HEAD and not his heart. What he wrote, was just exactly what I've been hollowin' for weeks, and what he wrote is completely True: "When Pacquiao and his reps included a potential deal breaking clause that would penalize Mayweather $10 million for every pound he was over the welterweight limit, he agreed to it. End of story.".....that by itself proved that Floyd did NOT used the blood tests to "walk away" from the fight, nor were the blood tests a clause in the contract (In other words, somethin' FLoyd came up with AFTER). It was already in the contract, and everythin' was fin; NOBODY was complainin' until Pacquiao suddenly got cold feet in the tests, and then people started attackin' Floyd for it. If Pacquiao would've accepted the tests, would people complained with the tests, or even know it? NO! And also he mentioned the FACT that Mosley was never tested positive but he WAS usin' steroids, so the argument that Pacquiao was always "clean" is nonsense, and pointless. Testin' negative by the NSAC's testsin' doesn't mean nothin'............Anyways, I can go on, and on, and on about it, but still the results would be the same: FANATICS and hater blamin' Floyd. It's just like I've been sayin': If Pacquiao steals money from a bank, and Floyd returns it, the world arrests Floyd and gives Pacquiao a medal. That's how blind this dudes are. Anyway, thanks Jason. That was a great article and the TRUTH!

Adam G:  Paulie says "I can make the case that I'm the best junior welter in the world, power or no power." How? For one Hatton beat him, and at least Pacman is better than Hatton so he is at least down to third. Diaz is not a JWW so the best JWW Paulie has beat is Ndou, and he didn`t do that convincingly. Bradley, Alexander and Khan have all beaten an opponent better than Ndou, and Urango put on a much better showing against Hatton. Paulie is funny, and I like him in a way because he`s opinionated, but it`s hard to find the true things that he says amidst the bull that he is no1. He just so so so very clearly isn`t.

Nuj Osnam:  I know watching malignaggi vs scareweather is absolute waste of money. malignaggi fights with boring one hand and scareweather in running around like a clown. tssskk. You guys should better retire now !!! there are many other lined up exciting fighters to see. Of course the pacman, clottey, juan diaz, although recently lost to feather fist malignaggi. We hate boring fights, remember that.

What else can I say about this guy other than his fights are boring. Mayweather fight is slightly more interesting than him.

RAIDEN:  salt ! So your saying that all the greatest boxer that been tested by NSA mean nothing to you? so 40 fights of floyd tested UNDER NSAC mean nothing to you? isnt Floyd came from 106 and gain weight quicker than pacquiao? When was mosely start using steroid its late 2000 right? Even Travis TYgart admitted that random blood test failed of catching cheater in OLYMPIC! its 2009 even DR CATLIN says that EPO can be tested in urine and blood is only for screening! HGH travis tygart admited that there is an equipment that can check HGH in urine and its ready to rock and roll! mayweather keep saying that pacquiao is a one dementional fighter! an easy fight for me probably easier than marquez! Even floyds father Sr said that pac has no skill with or without steroid floyd wll whoop his ass! Mayweather fans called him a catch weight master! and he can olyn beat wash out or averated boxer! GB OCA DELA HOAY says after pac vs delahoya fight Lucky he dont punch that hard or else he could have KO me then suddenly everything has change when pac schedule to fight mayweather! pac become a very strong PUNCHER and being accuse of using steroid with out any hard evidence! (DELA HOYA= no wonder why those mosley punch those vargas punch, and pacquiao punch are all felt dasame) If NSAC is s++ks WADA is s++ks because NSAC follow under WADA guideline Travis TYGART is a big lier too and this people are bunch of clowns

Radam G -- hmm:  Paulie is a loudmouthed-no-fighting bum. I'll be glad when he fights a live boxer and get crushed again like the whupping that Miguel Cotto put on him. Paulie does everything wrong and it comes out wrong. He has just been matched against the none-hurting-his-arse opponents. First, he doesn't deserve a fight with Mayweather or any of the top five dawgs at lighwelter -- and not definitely not at welterweight. Good thing that Mayweather will not fight this bum, because he will revealed Paulie as chump -- lower than a bum -- a pure tomato can! Often there are fighters who are good on the con -- and are more protected than suckas in the witness protection program -- with weak boxing game. Paulie is good on making fanfaronades and pseudo-experts think that he is tricky, sharp, quick, maybe even slick, but in actually and deep reality he and comparing-boxing-to-porno DiBella know what time it is. Let Paulie fight Lamont Peterson and the winner of that bout gets the dance with Money-short, courageless May. Lil' Duck -- I mean -- Lil' Floyd will knocked Paulie the double fudge out, and kick the holly $hit of Lamont Peterson, the fibber about beating up the Moneyless one is sparring sessions. Of course :Lil' Floyd has deep fright about Manny, and it is not because of a trumped-up belief of steriods. He can't beat Manny -- FIRST OF ALL! So he'd never get robbed! SECOND! He'd never get robbed against Paulie, because if he fights that sucka, Lil' Floyd would knock him out easily. People out there don't want to deal with reality. Family Mayweather is paranoid as heck, in their own word of "the white robbing" Floyd. Will some hardnose boxing journalist develop some big NUTS and let the world know what Family Mayweather say that U.S. Americans hate to discuss -- IMAGINED (and an iota of real) PARANOIA ABOUT RACISM? I'm neutral in this deep unspoken shame and studity of racism between YANKS -- white and black. As sure as the SUN is going to rise over there in the USA mainland tomorrow, Money-shawty May will step in that squared jungle with a goose egg, but out a defeat thrown to him by blind-arse judges and a ref because they are mad as hate about the way Money-shawty May has been ducking and conducting his hurt bitnezz. Money-shawty May is a defeated MAN WALKING and hated by his own doing. And YOU GUYS know it, but don't have the GUT of this Pinoy to admit that he is MARKED for DEFEAT -- by CROOK, book or hook. And I'm taking all the odds in Vegas that it will be by CROOK -- sooner before later, unless he fights Manny, then it will definitely be by HOOK and in go in the history BOOKS! Holla!

Porkupine:  CRAP. GARBAGE. BALONEY. If FLoyd must beat up little guys I'd like to see Nate Campbell get the call rather than this guy. Paulie has no business fighting Mayweather.

dirdgr8:  SO YOU FREAKIN ADMIT THAT YOUR MOUTH IS MORE FEARFUL THAN YOUR BOXING SKILLS... YOU, LIKE ANY OTHER FIGHTER DESERVES THE ADMINARATION FOR HAVING THE GUTS AND DETERMINATION TO FIGHT IN THE RING, WHAT YOU DONT DESERVE IS TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO PROVE THAT YOU CAN HANG IT OUT WITH A BOXER IN THE CALIBER OF MANNY PACQUIAO. YOU DONT DESERVE THE PAYCHECK AND THE EXPOSURE NOT BECAUSE YOU'RE THE LESSSER MAN, BT BECASUE YOU DONT SET A GOOD EXAMPLE TO INSPIRE YOUNG PEOPLE AND THE FANS TO CONTINUE THEIR SUPPORT TO THE SPORT.

Medyo:  Even a super glue won't work to shut Malignaggi's mouth. It's as big as a cobra eating a cow.

Renecon:  Paula just wanted to be noticed because he wanted big fights. If he loses to Floyd or Pacman, he will already have a big paycheck and can retire.
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 10:02:06 PM
I Said Nothing but the TRUTH:  Not to disrespect Malignaggi but Khan and Bradley will easily put him out of commision, early! Paulie is at best a "B" class fighter and Bradley and Khan's speed will easily match his almost awkward body movement. Malignaggi will be hitting air against Floyd and although he will hit Pacquiao for sure, Manny will literally kill this guy quickly than Manny did Hatton. Paulie talks a lot of noise and even praising Floyd because he knew it will be his biggest paycheck ever if he fight Mayweather. Please let us not even talk about this clown, Floyd will look a lot better if he fight Williams or just wait until the Bero-Mosley bout and fight the winner of it.
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 10:07:38 PM
bug:  malgnaggi needs only money not to win. what power does he had to beat mayweather, even for pacman.they rematch with diaz because of the controversy win of diaz.this malignaggi has a big mouth too.maybe they are match with mayweather because they are the same has big mouth.whatever this guy is talking about doesn't make sense.the boxing fans want malignaggi to fight mayweather because they both accuse pacman of using illegal drugs so because of that they can fight by using the olympic style , let see if they agree to do that .
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 10:09:41 PM
MIsterLee:  Some of you guys are full of SH**T. Just b/c paulie is not a heavy hitter doesn't mean he'll get KTFO by other boxers. He went the distance IMO with cotto and hatton, the guy has fast feet, fast hands, and skills... and he's tougher mentally than ortiz and almost any fighter in the market, and this is coming from someone who't t-off about his jumping on the steorids trainer wtih pac, but the guys' got heart. Holler!
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 10:16:58 PM
Guest:  Blah blah blah. Paulie just want some crackers. That's all there is. Paulie and Floyd can bitch talk themselves for all I care. At least Malignaggi accepts tougher fights.

RoidFloyd:  It's just plain stupid to think that Mayweather is right in believing that his methods are for the purpose of protecting himself cause no one is going to do it for him, ala ALI. First, Fraud is NO ALI. Second, why box, then? When you lace gloves on, it's implied that you accept and consent to the possibility of being hit. Period. Damn, boxers, or any athlete, can get hurt whether on steroids/PED or not, during competition. Fraud is looking to keep his "0" to preserve his marketability so that he can continue to milk fools who buy into his bs that what he does is "sweet science" while competing against mediocre boxers like Malinaggi. People have walked out of the arena in the middle of a Mayweather fight and actually booed his performance....(ie., v. Delahoya, v. Baldomir). He's BORING. But, then its your money to throw away. Sweet science my behind. Ali was sweet science, so was Leonard, Robinson, and Whittaker...BUT they FOUGHT and took on challenges. Sweet science is also Chavez, Hagler, and Duran, who were punchers and brawlers. Mayweather just takes foolish people's money. After the Delahoya performance, I have stopped purchasing his fight and so far have not been disappointed in keeping my money when I watched the replay for free and realized I didn't miss anything....even after falling asleep while watching.

boxing fan:  i think mayweather vs malignaggi will not much sell for the casual fans but it's a good matchup for the true boxing fans. i like malignaggi as a boxer. if a person's ambition is to become a good boxer but don't have the gift of power, he have no other choice but to box intelligently & paulie was successful with it. just like floyd who has a fragile body. they found a way to become good despite their weaknesses. unfortunately, they are not attractive to the majority of the casual fans that is why they have their mouths to attract some. but just as misterlee said, paulie's best strength is his heart & mental toughness besides his good boxing prowess. but honestly i don't like his mouth but i have to respect & understand that for his marketability.

boxing fan:  mayweather (147pounder) vs malignaggi (140pounder) is a battle of pure boxers just as pacquiao (140pounder) vs valero (135pounder) for brawlers.
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 10:56:48 PM
Benjie:  "When Pacquiao and his reps included a potential deal breaking clause that would penalize Mayweather $10 million for every pound he was over the welterweight limit, he agreed to it." Is that really a deal breaker? $10 million for every pound excess? Heck you could make it $20 million and Floyd would still agree to that. What's that it had to do, Floyd could easily make 147. Give him a limit like 140 and im sure he's not gonna agree with that. Heck, you could give Pacquiao a penalty of $30 million per pound in excess and he would agree to that one too. Is that the DEAL BREAKER?

poor arabian:  what a poor fighter it is,, nobody wants him to fight thats why he just make scandal or something to make all people eyes on him,,, tsk tsk tsk,, cause all of his fight is so boring
Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 11:24:46 PM
ngern:  It's not that the Pacman camp is scared of what Malignaggi's gonna say, the Pacman camp simply thinks that Malignaggi should not be given a multi-million dollar payday after his defamatory comments against the man that could actually give him such a payday! Let Malignaggi earn that "slave money" that he deserves for his fights. Pacman will not put money on his lap after what he said!

hfortune:  I have a strong feeling that he won't fight Paul Williams. Just a haunch, not really sure, 98.75% percentage sure only. Base on what? I don't know, just intuition I guess. He won't even fight Cotto or Clottey because they are not undefeated, right? Mosley? He's on drugs! What the hell is he in boxing for? To be a mascot?
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 12:11:17 AM
Barako:  Hey Malinglagi. Do you still remember your fight with Miguel Cotto? After Miguel Cotto beat your ass real good and left you like a rotten vegetable you said Cotto was the best. Now you are barking at people way above your level. Loud mouth does not make good fights, strong heavy arm does.

Aaron Leary:  Although i believed that Paulie is like a 2nd class citizen in boxing he is, in a way, a lot tougher than Floyd. He never backed down from opposition that Floyd avoided.

Fair fan:  Paulie the next mouth louder boxer, you just wait for your turn and don't be envy or jealous,do your best like others boxer do and prove it.For me boxing is an entertainment sport to watch thats why its really nice to watch a boxer a truly fighter on the ring that has speed, power and charisma to the viewers or fans.Sorry to tell you,i beg to disagree that you said,Moneyman for you is the best boxer,no,no,no,its big question mark he always ducking to his opponent.Honestly, first time i saw your fight with Hatton,im not really impressed you as a boxer. The only reason i watch the fight coz of MR.Hatton The Hitman he's a fighter thats why you lost that fight thru TKO,am i correct.
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 01:37:19 AM
Fe'Roz :  "Enough. Our fighter is done. Stop this now." Those are the exact words that accompanied the towel thrown into the ring by Paulie's corner to stop the relentlessly beating he was taking from The Hitman. No, not Tommy Hearns. Ricky Hatton! After 11 rounds of learning there was a huge gap between the Number One ranked Jr. welter and himself, Paulie could ask for little but the dignity of going out on his shield. Attempts to redeem as Samson ....only to find him self blinded by his own dreads, the Magic Man was once again shorn by his Delilah, his own corner. So much for the elite Paulie Malignaggi. When his second rate skills failed him, his first rate mouth took over. And man can he talk. When his magic abandoned him, so did any lasting charm. And out spilled the trash. Truth about Texas somehow emboldened him. And, at least from his perspective, gave him license to lambast the Gods of Boxing. Unfounded accusations spilled from his lips faster that you can swallow Number 5 from Taco Bell. Trash fell from his lips faster than some trainers could get to work. So, credit to Paulie. He has made himself a name. As a second rate, no class clown who will, on any given night, serve as a servicable opponent . He can sing/talk and dance for his money. But fight, I don't think so. He is a tailor made opponent for Floyd. The man who had the tar beaten from him by the same man who was joined in unholy matrimony to a ring-post by PBF is not a premier fighter. But he's an attraction. Two men fighting each other with almost no one rooting for either man. Unusual promotion... but we've seen stranger. Call it Shame's Son meets Delilah: The first cut is the sweetest.

jean:  Here are my reasons for Malignaggi-Mayweather. -Mayweather has an easy KO to add to his UD record of mostly B+ fighters -Malignaggi needs cash.
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 02:22:43 AM
ton:  what have you accomplished mr. malignaggi? 5 knockout in 27 fights....hahahaha is that accomplishment?
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 02:22:58 AM
Isaiah:  LOL! Man you all, Floyd Mayweather looks like the Incredible Hulk compared to stick boy Malignaggi. Sadly, there's a lot more difference between Mayweather and Malignaggi's power then Mayweather and Pacquiao's power, and that's saying something! Wait to go Mayweather! You're fighting a guy who has less power then my 4 year old son with pillows on his hands. Shoot, I guess in comparision Floyd's bombs are "JUST THAT" Nuclear bombs! HA! Oh, and Paulie has to move up in weight, like he didn't punch light enough? Yey! Mr. Star of Chicken Run 2, otherwise known as "General Pacquiao's Popcorn Chicken" Floyd Mayweather, has 20 more knockouts then Paulie! Yey, 20! If this fight happens, I guess I know how much I need to pay for something if I can't sleep that night. HA! Oh, by the way people, I saw an interesting fact typed up by a nurse. YEY, A NURSE! IT STATES SIMPLY THIS, "UNLIMITED URINE TEST ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH TO DETECT ANY TYPE OF STEROIDS IN THE HUMAN BODY AND ARE MUCH MORE ACCURATE THEN ANY KIND OF BLOOD TESTS IN DETECTING SAID STEROIDS!" Simply put, a negative reading of steroids could NOT show up with someone who was taking them and being subjected to unlimited urine tests! THIS IS A FACT! I hope this gives you Floyd fans something to think about. HMMM........

BORED 2 DEATH:  MAN I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE POSTER FOR THE FLOYD-PAULIE FIGHT. WE HAD FIREPOWER. WE HAD NUMERO UNO. NOW WE HAVE "POWERLESS"
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 04:47:31 AM
oskar:  Malignaggi got skills but not on the elite level. If you put him with Bradley or Khan it would be interesting but putting him against the self claiming pound for pound best would be laughable. Malignaggi got zero power at 140 if he moves at 147 that zero will become negative. Well olympic style drug test would be appropriate for this fight it's going to look like they both got head gears and pillow gloves trying to score points while running. If Floyd jr really want to prove something fight Bradley at 140... then pay and came in 146 that would be hilarious...

EL MAROMERO:  I would not pay 50 dollars to see Malignaggie in a PPV Main Event. He is lucky that Juan Diaz can't make good decisions with his career. I heard that he uses an inflatible punching bag, the kind that bounces off the floor and comes back to you.LMAO
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 07:58:26 AM
Yuvie:  Yeah, this is from the same guy who took a boxing lesson from Ricky Hatton and he could beat Bradley? Hmm, yeeaah, right, okay then. Next please.
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 08:12:15 AM
mortcola:  NOt much new to add here. Paulie busy-ness could make Floyd work. But the idea that Paulie, after getting beaten badly in all his top fights, is such an important person in the Pac/PBF/etc workd is just delusional. He has his spotlight time. That's it.
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 08:26:11 AM
Mouth :  I'd be more thrilled by the way they talk rather than them brawling
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 08:46:27 AM
Jasz:  What, Paulie "Wants-a-Cracker" Malignaggi says its not about power? What is he talking about? If you're fighting a dangerous opponent what you need is power to knock the other guy out. You can dance around all you want but in the end you have to finish the guy off or else he might finish you out. I guess Paulie says these things so he can market himself and get that huge payday. I think Malignaggi should actually be offended if Mayweather chooses him as his next opponent but does not ask him to undergo a random blood test. That means Mayweather does not think he's a threat to his big donut, you know that worthless "0' on his record. Well, I can just see what type of fight a Mayweather-Malignaggi will be, just another dance routine. Maybe they should call this fight "Mayweather-Malignaggi: The battle between M&Ms!!!" Hahaha!
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 08:46:51 AM
swift:  This is Garbage! Paulie can't even beat any of the 140 champions and he now he wants to fight Mayweather?? Floyd is a joke! How about facing a legit welterweight? Maybe a Carlos Quintana or even Luis Collazo!

jeddah ksa guy:  yup guys paulia and floydee is birds of the same feathers.there mouth full of trash talk must be shut up agree with me?they are a shame to boxing and must retire soon, what a joke this guys are

bill major:  you can always count on salt to kiss mayweathers ass whenever his name is in the mix.he is a disgrace to the word Champion.you know, ive been thinking alot about the lack of fighting that these guys do today and yet consider themselves the best ever.guys like joe gans, benny leonard etc.. use to fight somtimes 30 or more times a year and guys that were sometimes a hell of alot bigger than them also . how can he even think that he could of compete with them or say that he is the greatest ever? lol. he dosent even fight 2 times a year .man, these guys would demolish him and probably all the guys today that really dont fight much.they give us nothing today except lip service.....
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 12:31:56 PM
jt:  this fight meets floydcott criteria. and why wouldn't it? all realistic mayweather scraps do. he's probably pushing for mayweather-corales 2.
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 12:49:52 PM
#1 PacFan "Says no to anymore catchweights!":  @Fe'Roz, very good post!!! This bum says that he is hated because they are jealous of him. What's there to be jealous about? He's never beaten a top level opponent in his career. He got beaten by Hatton so silly it wasn't even funny. I wouldn't be surprised if Scareweather took on this bum because he is known to fight guys who have been beaten by a fighter he's already have beaten. Meaning that Scare beat Hatton and Hatton already schooled Paulie so, why fight him?
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 01:14:19 PM
Azyd:  Paulie who the hell are you? it just boggles my mind of the guys who watch your fight? or girlfight?
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 01:15:18 PM
AFN:  Before everybody starts bad mouthing Paulie, perhaps they should rewatch his fight against Cotto and ask themselves the question, could they have fought to the end of 12 rounds with that many fractures and that much pain? I doubt it. He may not be an A class fighter, and he may have a mouth louder than most, and he may have bad hair and fashion sense, but a girly sissy Paulie Malignaggi most certainly is not. There are very few non-mexican fighters out there who are as tough as Paulie is. EL TOONOY
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 02:40:39 PM
#1 PacFan "Says no to anymore catchweights!":  I'm only judging this guy from a fans perspective. He bad mouths more than Hopkins but you see B-Hop can get away with it. He backs up every word. Unlike Paulie, he says he going to pound yo @ss but who is he kidding? Don't get me wrong he's a tough SOG but he can't get over the hump. You can't be as arrogant as he is when he hasn't accomplished sh*t.
Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 03:48:37 PM
El Maromero:  He started boxing when he was in high school so he did turn out to be good but his style is painless to his opponent.I bet his sparring partners don'e even wear protection.

Isaiah:  Welcome to KenDUCKy Floyd Chicken you all. We do chicken S##T right. How may I help you? Sorry we will refuse service to you if your name is Shane Mosley (Talk about a fight that should have happened already...) Manny Pacquiao, Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey, Carlos Quintana, Luis Collazo, Kermit Cintron or if you want a rematch with Oscar De La Hoya or Zab Judah because you might just beat Mr. ChickenSPIT if given a second chance. To get service here you must never ever be a legit 147 pounder outside of Zab Judah or throw in Carlos Baldomir if you must. We will only serve you if you usually fight at 135 and are willing to come up 2 weight classes, Oh, and please be past your prime or never really have one to begin with. Welcome MS. Malignaggi. brownsugar:  this fight is nowhere on my list as a fight that I crave to watch,.. but from a tactical point of view,.. fights between 2 fast boxers are always interesting to me in the way Leonard vs Benitez was,.. although Paulis is no Benitez or Sugar in the skills department,.. but his footwork and ring generalship is impeccable... it's a shame that McGirt put that TKO on his record from the Hatton fight,.he didn't deserve that.... Paulie was in no danger what so ever,... but fear not fans,... this fight will never happen...I'd like to see Paulie retire and become an announcer,.. like Kellerman,.. he never lacks a commentary...

Trooper0906:  The real reason why floyd mayducker wants an olympic-style random blood test is that to take advantage and to weaken pacman. They knew that pacman is not on roids but by doing the same blood test, the power of manny will be contained. Can you recall mayducker's camp admits that they will double the strategy of Morales Team on their first fight? The loudmouth ducker Sr. likewise admitted that ducker Jr. could be hurt. Surely pacman will hurt him, and by doing the blood test, the 0 record will be protected. Is there anymore argument about this?

arnie:  This is Mayweather's chance for resurrection but if it's against Malignaggi JUST FORGET IT! Mayweather is so good that he should be fighting the true welterweights like Mosley, Cintron, Anggulo, Williams, Cotto. Malignaggi definitely will just be dancing and running and Mayweather will be covering with some intermittent punches thrown and this might kill all the bored people who will be watching if there will be somebody watching at all. In Paulie, Mayweather might not have the heart to punch that saint-like face and Paulie might try to molest the good-looking Mayweather by doing all the unnecessary embracing even when May is just attempting to cover. NO TO THIS FIGHT!

Arnie:  I'm sorry, Paulie looks more like a nun than a saint.

John Woods:  Paulie must be dreaming to think Floyd or Pacquiao will give him that chance. Malignaggi is a nobody, plain and simple, he is a 'B' level boxer at most so please let us not waste out time talking about this clown.

Brownie:  There is only one thing in common with these 2 fighters and that is their foul, trashy talks. Floyd is a great fighter and Paulie is a nobody. The way these 2 boxers talks only tells us the kind of person they really are.
