CALLOUT CORNER: What Cintron Wants For Christmas
CINTRON: “A FIGHT BETWEEN COTTO AND I MAKES THE MOST SENSE . . . IT’S ABOUT PUERTO RICAN PRIDE!”
ALL CONTENDERS FROM 147 TO 154 ARE ON KERMIT CINTRON’S HOLIDAY WISH-LIST THIS YEAR
(December 21, 2009) It’s Christmas time, but despite having a great family to share the season with, Kermit Cintron is feeling a little lonely. That’s because since his May victory over highly touted contender Alfredo Angulo, it seems as though everyone else from welterweight (where he has twice held world titles) to junior middleweight (where he pulled a convincing upset over Angulo) has forgotten about Cintron, the WBC #2, WBO #2, IBF #3 ranked contender.
To bide his time, Cintron (32-2-1, 28 KOs) fulfilled a lifelong dream by returning to his native Puerto Rico and stopping Juliano Ramos in five rounds. Now he’s back on the prowl for the biggest names and toughest challenges.
“I don’t discriminate,” said Cintron. “From 147 to 154, I feel like I can beat anyone in the world. My only two losses were to a guy who was later found to have loaded gloves. Almost no else has a track record as good as mine, and yet everyone else seems to be getting opportunities.”
Among those getting opportunities is Angulo, who was back on the HBO airwaves six months after losing to Cintron in a battle for the interim WBO junior middleweight title against untested Harry Joe Yorgey. Angulo won easily and is now planning his first title defense while Cintron sits in limbo.
“How does this make sense? I beat Angulo and he gets two more dates like it’s nothing,” asked Cintron. “Since I beat Angulo, the only fight I’ve been offered was to fight Joshua Clottey and I was already scheduled to fight down in Puerto Rico. So my DiBella Entertainment stablemate Carlos Quintana took the fight, and it ended up getting cancelled anyways.”
While Cintron is eager to fight the best from 147 to 154, it is a fight against fellow Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto that tops his wish list.
“A fight between Cotto and I makes the most sense. It’s about Puerto Rican pride,” said Cintron. “There could not be a bigger fight than me versus Cotto on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City. What would make no sense would be for Cotto to give Margarito another fight.”
If a fight versus Cotto cannot happen, Cintron is willing to put to clear up any questions that remain with regard to his bout against Sergio Martinez.
“Because the Cotto fight wouldn’t happen until June, I’d like to get a rematch against Sergio Martinez. Some people disputed the draw. Look, the guy wore so much hair gel and moose, that the fumes were making me dizzy. And I still managed to put it on him on only 4 weeks’ notice. Let’s clear the air for good. With an eight week camp, I knock him out. Simple as that!”

Yes, Cintron's always willin' to fight anyone, but his performance against Sergio Martinez, made me lose a little respect for him as a fighter. It should've been a W for Martinez, and instead Cintron had an undeserved Draw. Cintron has the most devastatin' punchin' power from 147lbs to 154lbs, but just doesn't have the skills to be a top fighter. He hired Emmanuel Stewart, and still failed to make any significant progress. Miguel Cotto would be a great match-up, and Cintron can seriously hurt Cotto, but overall Cotto has so much better boxin' skills. That fight would be very interestin' and brutal. If it was ever to occur, I pick Miguel Cotto to chop him down, and get a clear Victory by either UD, or late TKO. However, one solid right hand from Cintron to the face of Cotto, and things would get ugly for the Caguas dude. They should make that fight, it makes sense, and a winnin' ticket for either of them, even though....XD!!!!!! Cotto's promoter is an expert in overprotectin' his own fighters. Latezzzzzzzz!!!

I will take Cotto in a won over Cintron. Cintron has improved with Ronnie Shield, but not to the level of Miguel Cotto. Cotto has too much IT for Clintron. Holla!

I am still not sold on Cintron. He was blasted by Martinez despite the judgement. I give him no credit for beating Angulo who in my eyes only seems to be an C+ fighter. Outside of that who has he beaten? I would love to see him fight Cotto but at 147. I dont think 154 is good for my man Cotto. If they are to fight, I would take Cotto by UD. I would love to see Clottey fight Cintron

Cintron needs to go sit his butt down. Angulo beats him in a rematch in my opinion. Martinez would beat him again, like he did the first time. Cotto I would like to see get a little time off but I would go with Cotto. As far a Margarito there is no proof Margarito had loaded gloves against Cintron. Cintron still for all the power they say he has, which I think is overrated, was not able to put a dent in Margarito. Margarito unless he has declined over the past year would take Cintron out easy.

Kind of ammusing how Cintron thinks he'll beat anyone in 147 and 154 weight class. I think Antonio Margartio and Sergio Martinez would dissagree. Tell him to go ahead and get him some in a rematch with either one and see what happens. If it's Margarito and his gloves are clean, Cintron WILL still get his butt handed to him EIGHT days a week as the Beatles would say. Martinez would still also do the same thing again and this time even worse. You know, something outside of a gift draw would be nice. I like Cintron, really I do. He can make a nice living beating on C fighters, but Cotto regardless of slipping, would KILL this guy. That's not the full list of guys that would whoop Cintron in these weights either. You all can go ahead and throw in Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Andre Berto, Cory Spinks and anyone else you think I missed. It's best to not be delusional in this sport. It can cost you big time.

Rumblings from the gayest puncher in the biz. His shimmy after receiving a gift draw against Martinez (Cintron was KO'd during the fight) solidified him as a closet homo. A fight with Clottey would have been entertaining. Two sandbaggers tossin' off.

Kermit's a good fighter, good puncher. But he lacks that last bit of boxing polish, savvy under pressure, and although he tries hard, he eventually falls apart. He has the power to stand in with the best, but he will never outbox, outwork, outland guys at the Cotto and Martinez level. When Martinez landed his punch like a brick on Cintron (yes, it was a clean punch), he folded in disbelief and complained, and got the undeserved draw. He will be a contender for a while, but not more.

Completely agree with Snake and mortcola. Sergio Martinez whooped him, and he started complainin', where he got that Draw. It should've been a W for Martinez, fair and square. And yes, mortcola, that WAS a clean shot in the face, and not the head. That reminds a little of Hector Camacho Jr vs Jesse James Leija, where Camacho Jr started complainin' and got a No-Contest, where it should've been a W for Leija. I really don't like fighters like that. NAte Campbell lost a little respect from me for the the thing he did with Tim Bradley. That should've been a W for Bradley, cuz regardless of whther it was a headbutt, or not, it was Campbell who quitted. He could've continued.

@Salt, omg I can't believe it! I finally agree with you on this one. Cotto fighting Cintron would be a good one and so is Margarito. Cotto would definitely chop him down. I think Cotto showed me something when he fought Pacquiao and that's he can take some punishment. Cintron is not that type of fighter who will just keep putting pressure on Cotto. Cintron who is lengthy as he is never uses those advantages. That's how he got KTFO against Margarito because he stands there and trades. Cotto wins that one UD or 12th round TKO against Cintron. I just can't say the same against Margarito though. Cotto has difficulties with fighters who pressure him after midway of the fight. Loaded gloves or not I still think Cotto loses that one. Cotto just gets cut up in the face too easily.

Yeah, you agree with me, but you and I both know why, and it's a personal thing with Cintron on your part, ah? XD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And about Cotto's assimilation is reducing. A hard right hand cross from Cintron (Despite what you and I say about him, he's the most devastatin' puncher in the 147lbs) to the face of Cotto, and things will get ugly for Cotto. Cintron can KO Cotto, but it's just that Miguel Cotto has so much better boxin' skills, and most importantly, the intelligence, that he'll know exactly what to do with a guy like Cintron. Chop him down like a tree, and let him fall. I think Cotto will pick him apart.

Kermit Cintron has done nothing to deserve a fight with any elite fighter in either division. At his best, he is an opponent. A good one sometimes.... but an 'opponent' always. Not because he started his career late. And not simply because his skills remain lacking despite efforts to improve. The man has power. He has the athleticism. It's what he lacks that has defined him. Heart. Will. Discipline. The intangibles. You watch a Cintron fight not to see if he can win... but to see how he will fold. Fragile is an understatement. The man breaks under the bright lights. In virtually all of his big fights. I actually think Kermit thinks he is .... and might be...game. But not at the elitest level.

Shimmys and toss-offs, pretty funny. I believe Kermit can give Miguel a go, but I think he'd get smoked by Martinez.
