TSS Take 1: Malignaggi Erases Doubt From First Fight, Downs Diaz
By Michael Woods
He Facebooked furiously, Tweeted his tail off and did it the old fashioned way as well. Paulie Malignaggi told one and all, loudly and often all by all means of communicating, that this time, there would be no doubt, he'd get the better of Juan Diaz.
The New Yorker showed as much confidence in a Chicago ring on Saturday night as he did promising he'd erase the doubts lingering after he got the short of it from the judges the first time he and Diaz clashed, in Texas in August. His ring generalship made up for his lack of punching power, as he darted and scooted away from Diaz after popping him with everything from his speedy arsenal. But still, the judges held the fate of the fighters in their hands after twelve hard rounds.
This time, there was no need for a post-fight diatribe from Paulie, no after fight meltdown, because the scores came back his way, 116-111 times three.
DiFiore, Miller, and Pernick liked his brand of the sweet science. "I gotta say I told you so," Paulie said after, and then blasted all the "haters" for writing him off last year.
Harold Lederman gave it to Paulie, 115-112. Paulie was the busier, 169-802 to 146-516, making it that much easier for the arbiters viewing the junior welter clash.
Paulie told Max Kellerman he'd like Juan Manuel Marquez, with the winner to meet Ricky Hatton. "I'll beat Ricky easy," he said.
Diaz came in 35-2, and pretty sure he'd be more aggressive, and more accurate and would make his power pay off this time around. Paulie came in 26-3, even more sure that he had the style edge, that Diaz' aggressiveness would be of the ineffective sort, because his movement would make the Texan look comparatively plodding.
Paulie scored a knockdown with a cuffing right, behind the head, in the tenth. Diaz' glove scraped the mat.
Victor Ortiz answered some questions, from himself and from fans. He said no mas to Marcos Maidana in his last fight, and we wondered if he was cut out for this. He showed vet Antonio Diaz he is, stopping him in the sixth, from a bad cut. He sent Diaz down in the third as well.
Come back for George Kimball's ringside report...

I think Malinaggi could outbox hatton, he did break compubox numbers in getting his head lodged in his armpit, but now without Buddy "The Towel" Mcgirt, he'll outbox for sure! Canvas kiss is not effect in 140, his punch is barely capable at 135. Malignaggi proved he could take a punch with hatton and cotto, and marquez doens't punch harder than them. Marquez has nothing to gain with a malignaggi fight either. Marquez is by far the bigger draw. Anyway, khan would be a good fight, khan is like the opposite of him, he has the power WITHOUT the chin, malignaggi is the chin without the power. You guys always feel b/c he punches light that he's easy to KO, but he's not, he's slick and tough as nails, most importantly mentally tough. Holler!

So much for Malignaggi being a bum, ah "geniuses"? XD!!!!!!!!Anyways, I always knew Malignaggi should win the fight. He was much slick, and superior to Diaz in all categories. Juan Diaz is just a brave, and aggresive puncher without any punch, and he couldn't do anything to Malignaggi who just has more skills. Now, this fight means for Malignaggi a ticket to a higher fight, a step back for Diaz, who simply doesn't have anything to do at 140lbs, and for those who called Malignaggi a "bum", well..........XD!!!! What can I say?: OOOOps!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Paulie didn't earn SQUAT except an okay payday, and a showing that he can hang with the best B level light weights. Haha.. fat lightweights anybody? He didnt earn a title contention nor a big money fight to me. If he can beat an A level light weight. lets bump him up to a B level jr. welter, or a catchweight fight with a super feather for' sure! Did he earn Ortiz? Definitely, they're both on the comeback trail, Malignaggi had Buddy "The Towel" McGirt in his corner, Victor Ortiz had the Tin Man in his corner. Winner gets another title shot or big money fight agst an A fighter. I really feel Malignaggi lost a tough fight with Cotto, but that with Hatton he wasn't his best, but he needs another win to show he's worthy of a Hatton fight and not just one who likes to get head locks and noogies from Hatton. Holler!

Yo, is that a troll up there on Isaiah? Nvm, just sarcasm. Haha.. anyway... @ arturo, nah man, why does pple always feel Malignaggi is a weakling or a bum? In my eyes, he went the distance with Cotto and Hatton (on a bad night). His f'n corner threw in the towel, but honestly he wasn't downed in the hatton fight, beat up yes, but not downed nor hurt seriously. Malignaggi is tough as nails, i'll say more grit than ortiz, khan, or COTTO put together. Just b/c he's not the greatest fighter of our generation nor have the hugest firepower doesn't mean he's not skillful nor tough as nails. He earned my respect. As long as he dosen't have "The Towel" McGirt in his corner he's good. Holler!

The Magic Man has fast hands and I know he has heart and a good chin , stamina and confidence. He is just too cocky and he looked like a fool when he tried to show off. Malignaggi must have seen Joe Buck Live and tried to imitate Floyd by talking to the commentators . He did go the distance with Cotto but he passed out in the locker room after the fight then he was taken to the hospital . Paulie almost went the distance against Hatton without winning a round.

I said he was a bum and still standing by that. He freakin acted like he just beat king kong or something. I still don't think he can hang with any other big boys at 140. Just think about, this guy got his arse beat by Hatton who has limited boxing skills himself even though Hatton felt like he did. I'm still not convinced with this guy. How about BJ Penn guys? The guy is a living legend. I'm going to be sh*tting feathers in the morning.

I called it for Paulie only because he's bigger faster stronger,.. and a hella better boxer,.. but hoped Diaz would pull it out,.. Diaz was looking stronger in some of the later round,. (also looks like he's lost some of his babyfat),.. but he just couldn't take it from Paulie,.. still would like to see Diaz in some light weight matches,. no slick boxers though,.. very odd to see Paulie make faces at Diaz,.. after he had him hurt,.. no punches,.. just faces,.. why not go for the KO then Mug for the camera later??,..

Paulie is a marshmallow bum who just wants to fight lightweights. Instead of calling out Marquez, he shoulda, coulda called out Lamont Peterson. They are both B-minus fighters (bums) and need to fight one another, so the winner can get a shot at one of the lightwelter alphabet title belt holders. Peterson-Malignaggi would be a good, flawed bout from two guys who are confused about their lack of knowhow. LP comes nowehere near competing with Money May in nothing involving elite pugilism; and PM is one delusional cat. Enough said about him. Holla!

That's funny as hell Don. @MisterLee, you don't know "The Prodigy" BJ Penn? He was the only man to give GSP a run for his money at Welterweight. His best place though is Lightweight where he destroyed and cleaned out that division. Last night I went to my buddy's house cause they huge MMA fans and they ordered the Penn-Sanchez fight. Sanchez is a beast and BJ took him to MMA 101. Check him out sometime and you'll see what I mean.

B/c you missed a chance to fight him, b/c he knocked out some tough foes, or b/c of jealousy? Who's next? I think bradley is kickin' some arse, could you beat him? Just wondering. But yeah, lots of pple gonna hate you b/c you're not edwin valero, all good. But yeah, quit hating pacquiao, you nearly lost me as a fan b/c of listless pointless finger pointing for sure!

Great show...great crowd...great city.
Paulie's smart enough to know that 13+ years into his boxing life he needs to score a payday or two and get out.
He has the skills to compete with anyone at 140. And anyone who hates him has never met him...he's one of the best guys in the game.

Actually that IS the real Paulie. He made a long winded comment the night of the pacquiao fight, and two days later he went on record on Fighthype in saying the EXACT same thing: That he felt Pacquiao was on steroids. There's no reason anyone would come on here and say "Hey, i'm the real Mike Tyson!" Anyway Paulie, I'm a fan of your boxing, but why ya gotta sweat me? I'm just some crap fan, and you're all reading my posts! So i guess you DON'T want to explain why you're making false accusations on Pacquiao with ZERO evidence. Is it jealousy, or was it a stupid emotional impulse move you made and now you regret? Stupid is right. But all good, keep boxing! Hope you fight for a world title next year. Maybe you can beat up Matthew Hatton as a side revenge, tho you up agst amir khan bradley or ortiz would be an intriguing event. Holler!
