LOU DIBELLA: "Jermain Will Definitely Win"

ARTHUR ABRAHAM-JERMAIN TAYLOR
PUBLIC WORK-OUT ATTRACTS HUGE MEDIA INTEREST

Wegner: “I Already Feel Sorry For Taylor”
DiBella: “Saturday Will Be A Sad Day For German Boxing Fans”

BERLIN (October 13, 2009)—Dozens of reporters and camera teams attended today´s public workout in the  heart of Berlin as “King” Arthur Abraham and Jermain Taylor gave a taste of their class. The two former  champions will open the hotly-anticipated Super Six World Boxing Classic in front of what will be a sell-out  crowd at the o2 World Arena here on Saturday night (SHOWTIME®, 8 p.m. ET/PT, tape delayed).

Not just the German capital, but the international press and fans around the world are buzzing with  anticipation. Camera teams from Russia, Denmark, Italy, Germany and America, amongst other nations, were  deployed to cover today´s training session.

King Arthur believes his opponent will be in for “an unpleasant surprise”. He said: “Taylor is good, he is a  proven champion, but he has never been in the ring with someone that punches as hard as I do. He will find  out on Saturday. I have a lot of respect for him, but he will not beat me in my hometown. The Super Six is the  biggest challenge of my life and I want to be a star in America once the tournament is over.”

Coach Ulli Wegner guided Abraham through a light work-out that featured stretching and pad work. “I already  feel sorry for Taylor,” he said. “He does not know how hard Arthur punches. Once he finds out, it will be too  late. Once Arthur lands, Taylor will wish to go back to America very quickly.”

Taylor also took a lot of time to speak to the reporters. "I have a lot of respect for Arthur as a fighter and I know he will be prepared,” he said. “You can expect a lot of fireworks in the ring on Saturday night. I had a good  training camp in Houston and I'm well prepared. I'm expecting to deliver a good performance which will lead to  victory. I know exactly how Arthur plans to fight me, it's no secret. I will be ready to counter anything that he presents."

Meanwhile, Lou DiBella, Taylor´s promoter, believes Saturday will be a sad day for German boxing fans.  “There will be a lot of disappointed fans in Berlin on Saturday night after Jermain has beaten Arthur,” he said.  “Arthur is a good boxer but he has never been in the ring with someone of Jermain´s class. Jermain will definitely win.”

#1 PacFan 15-2-1 in "09:  Thanks TSS for the QON! It's an honor to be one of your readers. Back to topic, I like JT but I just don't see him winning this one. It would be huge if he wins but I see Arthur winning by stoppage.

Fe'Roz :  I make no prediction. For this fight, put me down in the wishful thinking category. I want to see a man grow. I believe Jermaine has more in him. At least I hope so. I have not seen enough unfortunately of AA and therefore cannot speak adequately to his strengths and merits. I expect a great fight....and may the better man win. I just hope for one more night that the better man is Jermaine.

Fistic Fury:  Arthur Abraham by KO. Despite moving up in weight he's one of my favourites for the whole super six...

Frank Z:  i've watched some of arthur abraham fight and train, and i gotta say i love his fighting style and attitude towards the game. as someone else said, dudes stands like a boxer and swings like a puncher, methodical looks for his shots and really unloads. that being said though, gotta cheer the red white and blue. come on andre, andre, and jermain!

Anonymous user:  He needs to keep his stamina and if so he wins the tourney.

Wayne:  Jermaine will win over alot of fans after the beating he takes from Abraham. Fans will be in awe over Taylors ability to take a punch.

the Roast:  AA is gonna win by KO. JT's ship has sailed. It's a tough task to ask of anyone to come right back without even a tune up after a crushing KO defeat. Now JT is going to go to Berlin and beat AA? I dont think so.
Tuesday Oct 13, 2009 08:25:33 PM
Fe'Roz @ the Roast:  Good point on the viability of JT's coming back from an absolutely crushing defeat. Tough chore but he has no alternative. If he goes out like most here think....it's on his shield. The metaphoric tragedy of an "athlete dying young'

Isaiah:  Like I said before, Jermaine is backed into a corner. It's now or never. I'm picking Abraham by late KO. Prove me wrong Jermaine. Prove me wrong...

brownsugar:  if pad work and prefight exploits in training could win fights,. then JT has already won,.. because he is simply a class above AA on the pure skill basis,.. AA has a strong mind,.. and even stronger punches,.. but he doesn't fight to wear a guy down,.. his pressure is less than Pavlik or FRoch's,... he stand there waiting for an opportunity to catch his opponent in one fraction of a second that his attention lapses,.. and then he strikes with the force of nuclear warhead,.... don't look for Taylor to tire in this fight,.. it's not going to happen,.. the question is,.. can Taylor successfully deflect AA's stealth missles,.. if he can,.. he will easily outpoint AA,....as hard as it is to believe,.. Taylor has changed,.. and all the improvements that he's made from his last 3 defeats will be evident in this fight,.. Give me Taylor for the win,.. in Hostile Territory,.. if I'm wrong I'll book reservations at Mister Lee's house of Crow Restaurante !!!

Fistic Fury:  Even if Taylor does edge Abraham (which I doubt,) it's nigh on impossible to get a decision in Germany against a 'home' fighter...

Isaiah:  Man, I was serving crow burgers after the Vitali Klitschko/Chris Arreola fight. It turns out, I didn't know MisterLee serves the best Crow on this site. I bet I won't get a chance to have any on this predicton though, ha! Keep that restaraunt going though MisterLee. I'll be wrong again soon enough.

dr3r42:  Why would there be a headline of Dibella picking Taylor to win ? It's his own fighter ! What would really be news worthy would be if Dibella actually picked Taylor to lose a fight
Wednesday Oct 14, 2009 01:25:22 PM
EM:  @Dr...Because he is putting extra pressure on Taylor by promising a win. By saying "definitely."
Wednesday Oct 14, 2009 01:31:24 PM
dr3r42:  I see your point EM. But I think the news effect of guaranteeing victory, or "definitely winning" sort of went after Ali and Nameth in the 1960's. Nowdays everybody does it. I am sure there were Detroit Lion players last year guarenteeing victory when they were 0-13, 0-14, and 0-15. Taylor's under enough pressure (his career) regardless of what Dibella says or does.

Angie And Goody...23 Years Later
Twenty three years later after they seconded Marvin Hagler and Ray Leonard in Las Vegas, Goody Petronelli and Angelo Dundee crossed paths again. This time, it was at Foxwoods. Photo/friend of TSS "The Iceman" John Scully reports there were only pleasantries exchanged. Goody didn't debate the split decision victory enjoyed by Leonard, which to this day Hagler disputes.
