Who's The Favorite In The Super Six World Boxing Classic?

SUPER SIX WORLD BOXING CLASSIC

– The Super Middleweights –

NEW YORK CITY PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

What the executives, fighters and promoters had to say on Monday in New York City:

KEN HERSHMAN

“Throughout my career, I have been involved with some of the most major and historic events in the sport, including the legendary Corrales vs. Castillo fight which in my opinion is the best fight in history, the Tyson/Holyfield ear biting incident, and the Tyson-Lewis fight. But never have I been more proud then I am of this tournament or prouder of the work we have done. Getting five promoters together is a herculean task in itself -- plus six of the best fighters in the division. That is a staggering accomplishment.

“(IBF champion) Lucien Bute was not invited (to participate).  He's a great champion but this tournament works. Not one promoter or fighter objected to the first-round draw. They all said ‘put me in front of anyone.’  Each promoter feels their guy is ready to take this tournament.’’

ARTHUR ABRAHAM

“I'm very happy to be in New York for the tournament. I want to win. I came here to participate and win. Each fighter, they are all exceptionally good, one better then the next. But I am here to win.’’

ANDRE DIRRELL

“Thank God and my Savior Jesus Christ. My heart is going 100 miles per hour. It is beating like hell.  This is the biggest stage of my career.  It is not because it is the hardest.  I know I am in a blessed position and the position to be the best of all-time.

“I thank SHOWTIME, Al Haymon, the three Europeans and my grandfather. I am ecstatic.  I have this tingling feeling.  I had that feeling when I came through the curtains today.  I had that same feeling at the Olympic Games each time I entered the ring. I know it is my time.  It is my time to shine.

“I love being the underdog. I am going to be in the finals. Whoever is there, that is who it will be (on predicting who he will meet in finals).  I guarantee you I'll be there. I have been hungry for a long time.  I just want to get it on.  I am the only one here not wearing a suit.  I want to wear a suit.

(On Froch) “I begged for that fight.  Froch is tailor-made for me. He hasn't showed me anything.  I think this will be my easiest fight.  If he can beat me, then he's a true champion.  (But) I will be victorious.

“I’m focused on getting the WBC title. Then, I'll get the WBA and leave the tournament with both belts.  Kessler stands out the most. He has only one defeat and has the most experience. My concern is not getting cut. I am naturally gifted and I will let the world know who I am. It’s a big plus that everyone knows they have three fights. I’m super hungry. All these are top guys and it’s going to take the best to beat the best. But I’m in a beautiful position. I’ve had only 18 fights. I’ll be unbearable. Everyone’s a world champ.  It's a one-man game, every man for himself. I don't care about the USA vs. Europe. Ward has the most prestigious position having won the gold.’’

CARL FROCH

“Thanks to all the promoters, and especially Ken Hershman for having the vision to put this together. I will remain the WBC champion throughout this tournament. All the fighters deserve to be here. We mean business and we are taking this seriously.

"I'm going to be the last man standing. I'm a world champion and I've worked so hard to get here that I'm not giving my belt up for anyone.

“This is what boxing is supposed to be about with the best fighting the best. These are the kind of challenges I've always wanted and I'm really fired up for this tournament.

"It forces the best fighters in the division to all face each other and that's something that has been missing from boxing in recent years. You've got established champions like Mikkel Kessler and Arthur Abraham, a former undisputed world champion like Jermain Taylor, who I already know all about, and then you have the two rising stars from the U.S., Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell.

"Right now Andre Dirrell is something of an unknown quantity for me because I haven't seen very much of him. He's coming into this tournament on the back of a lot of hype and he certainly talks a good fight. It's in the ring that it will count though, that's where he will have to back it up. But he's big at the weight, he's got that great amateur pedigree, he's unbeaten and he's some good scalps on his record.

“So he's definitely a dangerous opponent for my first fight.

"Ultimately I believe the series will come down to myself and Mikkel Kessler in the final. He's a reigning world champion just like me and I believe the experience of being world champ gives you that extra edge.

“He's an excellent fighter but I believe I'm the best of the bunch and it's just about going out now and proving that.’’

MIKKEL KESSLER

“Thank you to all the promoters and to SHOWTIME. This is a big opportunity for me to test myself. I never thought this would happen but when I got the call I said, ‘of course, I want to be a part of it.’ This is a big opportunity for me and all the fighters. A big thank you to all, and may the best fighter win.’’

JERMAIN TAYLOR

"I don't really care who I fight, with me there’s always plenty of action in the ring.

"Arthur Abraham is a brawler. I'm going to box him. That’s the key to winning the fight and beating a brawler. Who wants it more........we will find out soon."

"A fighter’s power will be key in this tournament; everyone has power. There will be KOs in most of the matches, but I will outbox Abraham.

"I'm glad to be a participant in this tournament SHOWTIME has put together. It’s good for boxing and the fans."

LOU DIBELLA
“DiBella Entertainment and Jermain are thrilled to be a part of this historic and creative tournament. It’s a clean slate for Jermain and every one of these great athletes begins this tournament 0-0.

“The round robin nature makes this an unprecedented contest. We look forward to competing with the best in the world.”

DAN GOOSSEN

“I apologize for Andre Ward not being here, but he is in Mexico and he has a case of the flu and is on antibiotics.

“I think this tournament will deliver great ratings and media support, but it will really be great for the boxing fans.

“When this concept was brought to our attention, I saw the greatness in it for the fighters.  I believe the fans have always insisted on something like this.  No gimmicks.  No give and take on the weight. Everything is there before you. The best are fighting the best.  Real champions.  Real Olympians.

“I believe the winners will become stars. Not one star, but I think this tournament will create two or three stars. I think it will take these fighters to a whole different level.

“When Ken Hershman met with me -- instead of Ken giving me the contract, I gave Ken the contract to get this started. There are great champions among the Europeans. Ward is the last gold medalist. You are going to see his great talent as he challenges these fighters.

“I think he will be achieving his greatness in the tournament and he will be the winner of this tournament.

"This brings boxing to the levels of the other major sports.  With the tournament format the fighters now have the chance to not only win the division championship and their conference championship but to take it to the Super Bowl. That I believe is what has driven these fighters to put it all on the line for supremacy.

“Andre has been on the biggest world stage as any of these athletes. It doesn't get any bigger than the Olympics and he overcame all of the odds on becoming the only Gold medalist for the U.S.

“And we believe that he is ready to go front and center on the professional world stage and be able to do what Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and Oscar De La Hoya did after winning gold."

MICK HENNESSY

“I'd really like to thank Ken Hershman and everyone with SHOWTIME. Sometimes it’s hard to get excited when you are promoting event after event, but I am excited for what’s coming up.

“This has got me very excited. Six incredible athletes, six warriors, will put everything on the line and agree to fight each other. This is something to congratulate them all for.

“I believe Carl Froch is the best pound-for-pound fighter coming out of the UK and by entering this tournament he'll be able to prove that.

“I'm very proud of him, he's up against the best of the best, but I believe he'll come out on top.’’

KALLE SAUERLAND

“This is a great turning point for the sport, especially in Europe. There are many questions right now in boxing, where the sport is going, who are the champions and others.

“But this tournament aims to clear it up.’’

WILFRIED SAUERLAND

“When we first thought about this, we weren’t sure it would happen, but they worked very hard and we owe it to all the other boxers and promoters and Ken Hershman.

“From what I've seen here and what I've heard from Europe, this will be great.’’

GARY SHAW

“I just received some ground breaking news. (Shaw reads a telegram from WBC President Jose Sulaiman). Sulaiman offered his deepest congratulations to the six great fighters and SHOWTIME while giving them the WBC official authorization and support of this great tournament.  There will be no mandatories.  The WBC will give its full support. This is most important to this tournament.

“Dirrell is one of the youngest in the tournament. He isn't a world champion, but he will be. I think he is the most athletic in this tournament. He can fight southpaw or orthodox. He's always switching during a fight.

“Andre has fought the toughest fighters in Anthony Hanshaw and Victor Oganov, who was 26-1 with 25 KOs. Oganov can really punch.  I believe Andre is going to win the tournament with his lighting speed.  That will take him a long way in the tournament. I think the experience that Andre, Jermain Taylor and Ward had in the Olympics will certainly help them in this format.

“It's America vs. Europe.’’

The tournament begins in October 2009 and runs through spring 2011.

The six fighters have signed on to fight any, and potentially all, of the five other contestants in the tournament.  All bouts will be scheduled for 12 rounds.  Froch’s WBC title and Kessler’s WBA championship will be on the line at the start of tournament competition.

In the first three Group Stages of the tournament, each fighter faces three different opponents over the next 12 months in a points-based competition.

Scoring will be as follows:
      Win – 2 points (with a 1-point KO/TKO bonus)
      Draw – 1 point
      Loss – 0 points

Based on the point standings after the third Group Stage, the top four point scorers will advance to the Semi-Finals with the lowest two being eliminated.  (In the event of a tie on points, a tie-break mechanism is in place)

The Semi-Finals will match the point leader against the fourth place fighter and the second versus the third. (In the event of a draw in the Semi-Final bouts, a tie-break mechanism is in place).

The winners of the respective Semi-Final bouts will advance to the Final, which will be contested in early 2011 for the inaugural Super Six World Boxing Classic trophy.

Fights will be contested on both American and European continents. Dates and venues will be announced in the coming weeks.  Group Stage 1 matchups are as follows:

GROUP STAGE 1
CARL FROCH     vs.    ANDRE DIRRELL (for WBC World Championship)
  JERMAIN TAYLOR     vs.    ARTHUR ABRAHAM
MIKKEL KESSLER     vs.    ANDRE WARD (for WBA World Championship)
Group Stage 2 and 3 matchups will be announced shortly.

MisterLEe:  Andre Ward 2009!
Monday Jul 13, 2009 06:15:22 PM
Artie:  I don't know who's going to win, but I love that Showtime is going to surpass HBO as the main broadcaster of REAL fights. HBO stinks and has stunk for some time now. They put on mismatches and overpriced PPV's with garbage undercards (Showtime hasn't had a PPV in years). I think Ward could win this thing.
Monday Jul 13, 2009 06:21:46 PM
MisterLee:  HBO 's fights have the record for most faked injuries. Oh no, i just sprained an eyelid, oh no! I hurt my rib sparring with my baby kid!
Monday Jul 13, 2009 06:38:04 PM
The Bryguy:  The Andre's will both be very dangerous. I think either guy could take it.
Monday Jul 13, 2009 07:34:25 PM
#1 Pacfan "R.I.P. Arturo Gatti":  How does this tourney work? Who's fighting who? Big names on this event and let the last man standing be victorious.
Monday Jul 13, 2009 09:15:50 PM
ali @ Mister Lee:  Im going with Dirrell I think he's the closest think sense Roy Jones. I wish they would do the same thing for the welterweight division. I know people are going to think im crazy for leaning toward Dirrell cause he's untested and they might be right but that my pick for now. Im going to make my final pick right before the torumament but for now im picking Dirrell
Monday Jul 13, 2009 09:21:23 PM
MisterLee @ ali:  Sounds good! Everyone has their pick. He's very talented, however, i called him the "fatrix" b/c i don't feel he's a virtuoso in anyway, RJJ was an innovator, Chad Dawson to me is sort of the closest thing to roy skill wise, tho he's not a knockout artist. We will see. Not only is dirrell untested, he gets hit flush fairly often by very mediocre competition. This means he has holes in his defense and fundamental. I'll count on Froch in exposing him, UD or late round stoppage. Pc out!
Monday Jul 13, 2009 09:43:30 PM
MisterLee @ #1 pac sage:  Yo sage! from what i understand, these fighters are going thru the meat grinder (3-4 fights), and the 4 top with highest scores thru this end up in semi final matches, then a final match. It'll be some collosal matchups and thank these fighters for giving their all, and subsiding their fragile egos to make something happen for the fight fans for once!
Monday Jul 13, 2009 09:46:08 PM
MisterLee @ #1 pac sage:  From what i read on espn, next year will see kessler froch, ward vs. dirrell and taylor, to name a few. pc out!
Monday Jul 13, 2009 09:46:49 PM
#1 Pacfan "R.I.P. Arturo Gatti":  @MMLee, thanx for the rundown and I have to take it back when I said about the division not being loaded like it used to. Ward-Abraham is what I want to see the most, very exciting match for show! 3-4 fights? How many rounds a fight? Is it going to be like the Olympic tourney? I dunno, hit it back. Payce.
Monday Jul 13, 2009 10:03:20 PM
brownsugar:  I havent' seen Dirrell get hit since he got caught by Hanshaw and he went on to stop Hanshaw inside the distance... he literally has not been touched in his last 3 fights,.. and that's what concerns me,.. his last 3 fights were against relatively poor quality journeymen,.. guys that truly couldn't box,.. they were strong but also completely devoid of fundamental boxing skills,.. Dirrell got an extremely tough draw,.. the only thing I can say in his favor is that he won't fade completely away like Taylor did in twelve rounds,.. as far as surviving a good shot,.. I have no Idea what his chin or heart is like because I've never seen him truly tested.. To me,.. Arthur A. has demonstrated the more dangerous one punch ability than Froch,..this is gonna be intresting.
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 01:11:19 AM
brownsugar:  saw Kesslers record on boxingrec,.. the biggest names I saw in his win column were Mundine and Librado,.. who are the other 38 guys?? (except Calzaghe),.. Kessler is being called the best of the lot,.. but in my humble opinion,.. his position is just as precarious as Dirrells,.. but I applaud all the participants,.. May the best Man Win,...
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 01:15:26 AM
Fistic Fury:  This could potentially change boxing forever and for the better I might add. This truly is the most exciting thing happening in boxing right now BUT I see various problems ruining it, most likely injury and money disputes although I hope not because i've been saying for years that I wanted something like this to take place. There is something similar in the UK called 'prizefighter' that the powers that be put on every 3 months or so with different weights each time, the difference being that it all gets done in one night, (8 fighters, 4 quarter finals, 2 semi finals, 1 final.) all the fights last 3 rounds and there is only a short rest and you're back in the ring for your next fight. Also the other more obvious difference is that these guys are at best journey men whereas this upcoming tournament is the best of the best. Results if all goes well? Well I will be cheering Froch on but I have a hunch king Arthur will reign supreme...
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 05:38:54 AM
GOAT:  This is going to be very exciting. I like Andre Ward to win it.
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 06:45:50 AM
Master Snake:  Incredible! The best boxing news I've heard this year. And I already get Showtime! All of the boxers, promoters and Showtime have set the bar on boxing at it's best. All of these fights will be eventful. I hope Taylor can bounce back from his defeat to Froch. If he is serious about boxing, he should have a mountain of motivation to come back stronger than ever. We'll see. I want to see him get some revenge on the English scalp hunter with eyes like Igor in 'Young Frankenstein'. Bust his ass up! I think Andre may do some of that first! Kessler will be exposed and Froch will get humbled.
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 07:20:19 AM
plad:  This is such a great idea. @brownsugar, kesslers record is as accomplished as anyone's on the list (its just a sad fact of boxing that champs rarely fight other champs until later in the career with nothin to really lose). It's going to be exciting and there could be some serious wars throughout this format, froch v kessler could be blood and guts, kessler v abraham could be a classic, and then we have the relatively untested dirrel and ward who bring quality and probably the most hunger as young upcomers. Its going to be brutal and if it doesn't fall apart at the seems (injuries and everything else) then i think it will be great for boxing. oh and i wouldn't be surprised to see at least 2 of them to quit boxing after it (added spice) :)
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 09:14:38 AM
Real Talk:  I would take Kessler if this was right after the JC fight , but what has he done since ??? I might have to role with Andre Ward or Abraham . Dueces
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 09:34:18 AM
Real Talk @ brownsugar:  Librado Andrade can fight . Tough as nails and keeps coming . A lil slow but I still like him . Kessler handled him , so don't sleep on him . I saw that fight live . Dueces
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 09:37:53 AM
ramman:  I bet all opinions will change once Andre Ward defeats Kessler. None of these fighters can keep up with the speed and elusiveness of ward there is no fighter that fast in this weight division outside of him. Some will look at kesslers fight with Calzaghe and make the mistake of thinking it's the same kind of speed he's seen before when in fact it's different. Calzaghe's is more about output and punches in bunches as oppose to having raw athletic speed in his hands and foot work like Ward or a Mayweather type fighter. The crazy thing is Ward throws lots of punches also, more than you would expect someone in his weight class would and doesn't seem to get tired. The main reason peoples opinions will change is because of how convincingly he will win just by boxing. Kessler's best shot will be to go after him with consistancy for 12 rounds and hope for the best in catching him because if he stands and boxes with Ward he will definitely get boxed.
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 10:09:19 AM
berraco47:  I like Arthur Abraham to take the whole thing! He's got a lot of experience against tough competition and the KO power! This is amazing. I hope it really does happen and I actually feel bad for Abraham, I mean he has to do this tournament to get a decent payday? Where is Kelly "Disappeared like a GHOST" Pavlik?
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 10:26:45 AM
GerardMcL:  I expect Taylor to upset a few people in this one. I expect Abraham to do well against the big men. Froch will take someones head off but ultimately I like Kessler to win this. Against Calzaghe he fought a great fight. He has a good chin, good power and good head movement. He isn't a stand in front of you fighter and his experience will be too much for the Andre's. I rate Kessler very highly and wouldn't be surprised to see his hand raised. Overall, great concept - great tournament and I can't believe they actually got everyone to agree. If this works, this format could do wonders for boxing. Imagine the HW with the Klitschkos, Haye, Arreola, Povetkin, Valuev - finally HW fights to get excited about.
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 10:44:55 AM
Big Daddy Can't Wait For Nov.7:  I agree with GerardMcL.. A tournament in ANY division would be awesome (Even HW). HBO can and needs to do this with the Welter Division. Fraud "Owes Money" Fairweather is so broke he might even agree to it. Mikkel Kessler is No Joke.. To his credit Librado Andrade didn't get KO'ed, BUT Kessler beat him EVERY round like he Stole Something. And there's No Shame in losing a Close Fight with Future HOF'er Joe Calzaghe. I'll be rooting for HomeBoy Andre Ward in OakTown Nov.7, Big Time. But anyone that's seen Kessler fight, Know's he's the Favorite to win the Tourney.
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 11:20:02 AM
Joe:  Ward! nuff said!

Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 01:12:06 PM
Theboyb901:  I have a feeling Taylor and Kessler are going to be the last me standing. I know for a fact that Ward will just outbox most of these guyPr

Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 03:32:26 PM
brownsugar@GeraldMcl and Real Talk:  Yeah,.. Real Talk,.. I've watched 3 of Librado's last fights,.. he's shown some experience and seasoning,.. since the days he stood up in from of Kessler and ate more punches than should be medically allowable in any country,.. without getting KO'd,.. I think he'd give Kessler a much more competetive fight now,.. But this guy hasn't done too much of anything in the last 2 years like you said,.. except some modeling on the side and going to court,..I thought Kessler was beating Calzaghe for the first part of the fight,.. before he showed the inability to adapt or turn up the heat,.. I will concede that he has the style to frustrate and out box Abrahms,.. but I like both Froch and Ward to beat him... let me finish by saying that Kessler will drastically change my impression of him if he actually participates in the tourney,.. I really can't downgrade anyone willing to take this type of chance to win a crown... but I will pick a side,.. the US TEAM,.. (I hope)
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 03:52:27 PM
brownsugar@donputo69:  Donputo69,.. you had me in the first round,.. no contest,.. but fighting in my behalf is SOG Andre Ward,.. he'll beat your predictions and he'll win the SMW tournament... but not without digging very, very,.. deep...
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 04:00:52 PM
Radam G, a humble PacManite hanging out in Cali gettin' over da King of Pop MJ:  Wow! Da Don is back and kicking my hindy in his tournament. I wuz robbed. The bout take place in New York -- Rican USA. Let's have a rematched in Daly City, Cali -- a Cali metro with a Pinay Mayor -- and I will surely win. Holla!
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 04:03:57 PM
Francisco:  I got money on Abraham....... He's proven time and time again that he is an Elite fighter. My backup pick would have to be Carl Froch. What a warrior. And I hope that Ward and all of the rest of those boxers show some juevos(balls) and mix it up. Get in there and exchange, attempt to Knock your opponent out. PLease!!!!
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 04:23:42 PM
donputo69 @Radam:  its on Radam...the rematch will take place at Daly Citi Cali....but not a catchweight....we need to fight at 225lbs.....or maybe i'll think about going down to 220lbs...let me know...also...60/40 for the don.....holla back!!!
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 04:28:57 PM
FOS:  Looking forward to this tournament!!!! My money is on Taylor!!!!!
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 04:38:28 PM
MisterLee:  Andre Ward's my favorite fighter, and even I think it's not going to be "EASY" for him. These guys are some seroius competition. The whole "injuries" thing shouldn't be an issue as fights can be postponed if needed, and they probably have at least 4-6 months in between fights to rest recover and train. I'm all for it. I think we're gonna see some shockers. Ward and Froch gonna do better than expected, abraham might maul thru some competition, like taylor dirrell, he may even give ward his second knockdown, but ward can outbox him, and also do some inside fighting on him. Yep, andre ward 2009! @ the don, dude! how do i dq? I'm a clean fighter!
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 05:35:56 PM
Big Daddy's Chillin' In Da Yay :  Hey donputo!.. Getting knocked down 4 times,Huh? Does that make YOU a Canvas Kisser? Or does it mean you got alotta Heart like JMM?
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 05:51:28 PM
TSS U CHAMPION donputo69 @ Big Daddy:  unlike the "ORIGINAL CANVAS KISSER JMM", i got up and got the job done...too much power and heart from donputo69....holla back!!!
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 07:12:39 PM
donputo69 @MisterLee:  you bodyslam pacfan twice...plus you lowblow him 3 times....out of frustation....lol...holla back!!!
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 07:33:17 PM
MisterLee @ donputo69:  Dude! Are you projecting Cotto on me now? We all know my right cross is my lasting blow, not my left hook, nor my running shoes. :) Who's reffing this tournament anyway? Lawrence Cole? :) JMM got up 3 times to fight to a draw! Have you seen froch taylor yet? That was helluva fight! Dude, how could i low blow pac sage, the guy is way to wise and i have way too much respect to do such ploys! besides, shouldn't those tactics DQ cotto as well, or does he have that PR Day favor? :) pc out!
Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 08:32:28 PM
Real Talk @ donputo69 & EM:  Good rumble EM , I thought I had it in the bag and started looking past EM to Don Puto 69 rematch and got caught . Took too many shots without firing back , EM caught me with a good liver shot , I almost recovered . I wish I had GATTI VS. WARD style REF THAT LET'S EM FIGHT . The ref got a little squeamish(if I spelled that right) from the blood , cut over my eye from a butt . I don't think it was intentional , Southpaw style of mine vs. conventional ...you underdig me . Good Rumble EM ........respect . Congratz to the Don Puto 69 on his tourney championship . I'm gonna train harder and stay focus for next go around . Dueces

Real Talk:  I love my country for many reasons but I have to say the EU fighters have the advantage in this tournament . Experience.....there's no substitute for it . Plus the power advantage goes to EU . I give raw athleticism to US , I also give boxing skills advantage to US . My main concern is conditioning and can the US fighters take those shots on the chin ? I see the young guns outboxing their opp. and getting caught . I think Andre Ward is the best shot for US . He's starting to harden .....no what I'm saying . He took some clean shots from Miranda and swallowed them . He also made a good adjustment and started fighting on the inside which shows versatility and intelligence , to intangables of eliteness , but he's still young and will have to fight like savvy pro if he's to win it all . Jermain Taylor is the wild card . He has the tools and power to take it all , but he will need to be intelligent and have good adjustments to adapt to the different looks he'll get . He will be in it until someone goes to sleep because he can crack . Andre Dirrell will either pull a Ali and blow the doors off everyone or will get roughed up and his lunch money took . He better stick to the scrip because Froch can turn the fight on a dime with one of those short rights( CRUNCHIN) and is tough as nails . Abraham has pretty good defense and can move but his skills seem average to me . He is tough though , I'm looking forward to this . This is GREAT for boxing . I would love to see Tito in this one too . Dueces

MisterLee at Real Talk (with Brian Gumbo) haha...:  Yo dude! Good talk! I think Abraham's decent endurance, heart, chin, AND his super roundhouse punches really can make an impact. I see him as the hardest puncher in the punch, but not nec. the most skilled. The guy is strong as a mule! I will never rule him out. 1.) ward 2.) abraham or dirrell 3.) Froch , tho froch could clutch the number 2 spot. I dunno why i put kessler in 4?! not that i think he's not good, i guess these are the guys i think will win, but kessler is def. execellent. pc out!

Real Talk @ donputo69 & MisterLee:  Yeah man......yous going into hostile territory playa . I think Radam G's style gives you problems , you know he's a southpaw . You might have to take control of the fight early . You never know if the judges score it off the crowd noise . Might have to watch out for homecooking too . Don't go for the knockout, put your punches together . I know you don't want to go to the cards but let it come to you . Radam's sharp so you don't want to telegraph your punches . You got power so whatever you land's gonna be heavy . Good Luck.......unless you see me ..........hehehe . Dueces

donputo69 drinking a Malta India:  @Real Talk....dont forget...im also a southpaw with a wicked right hook...so Radam better not sleep on my right....but yeah man...California here i come....so train hard Radam....im going to your backyard soon....East Coast...holla back!!!

#1 Pacfan "P4P Legend":  Got caught up with the other articles, damn I get TKOed in the quarter finals? Atleast let me lose by decision, MMLee is very aggressive who throws punches in bunches so it makes sense he DQed. Better luck next year MMLee. But where's Fe'Roz, Roast, ultimoshogun, Fistic, and all the other regs. Great tourney tho. Payce out.

MisterLee:  I demand a round robin style! The ref Lawrence Cole obviously didn't know what he was doing, causing me a headbutt when he was breaking us up, then the palm strike to the groin he gave me didn't help either! Dude i sense a hometown decision, since the Don was running the tournament! He won the Don 69 classic earlier this year too!

MisterLee:  Wait a min, eastar bunny and anony the same person and luistito! how can the same person fight in two different 1st round draws! Must be some corruption going on!
Wednesday Jul 15, 2009 06:35:39 PM
EM:  My lord, will someone please investigate Cole!! The headbutt and the palm strike. This guy's a menace!
Wednesday Jul 15, 2009 08:35:51 PM
Santos Banderos:  You will all be surprised by the viking warrior !! This guy is no joke ask Calzaghe because he said that Kessler was his hardest oppenent and this guy can beat the shit out of the other guys, he may not be the fastest but his power will be to much to handle as his one punch can make you KO. He is also considered the favorite by the other boxers for a reason.

WackaChang:  I would definetely go for Kessler. The competition is hard, I'll give you that, but his preparations and concentration up to each and every fight is without a doubt unique. He will come very well prepared.

2009 Reader Of The Year Weighs In On Legacies Of Pacquiao And Mayweather
"Pacquiao has proven....in the ring... time and time again that he is the greatest of this time. He has earned his respect. He begs for nothing. He is a man content with his growth, his family and his achievements. A man the world has now turned it's eyes to behold. Floyd Mayweather is not even close in stature. He may possess the greatest skills but he is not the Face of Boxing today. Google Manny Pacquiao. There are 20 million searches. Google Floyd. There are 6.5 million. Look at the NYTimes, the Wall Street Journal and Time. Count how many words were used these past years to mention Floyd Mayweather. Then count the words still being printed about Manny. And keep counting. As I've said many times, Floyd has been too clever by half. He has short changed his public.....and has out-smarted himself. Manny will fight but a few more times. Enjoy it while you can. He is an all time great pugilist. Floyd, with all of his remarkable skills lack the will to be truly great in the biggest sense of the word. His legacy will look more like Holmes that Ali. He has earned it." ---November is half-way gone, but we don't need to keep counting ballots. It's a landslide. Fe'Roz has won the 2009 Reader of the Year award. His comments add to the website immeasurably, and he epitomizes the thoughtful, respectful, educated fan of pugilism we strive to cater to at TSS. Congrats, Fe'Roz, and please accept my thanks for being the valued member of this community that you are. Sincerely, Editor Mike
