Lot of power, lot of aggression in that ring. Both mens' apple carts were upset in 2007, but each has gotten back on track. Who'll have the upper hand in 2009?

Darchinyan Vs. Arce Is On

NEW YORK (Nov. 26, 2008) – A must-see matchup that fans, media and the fighters themselves have been clamoring for will take place when two of boxing’s biggest little men and hardest punchers, Vic Darchinyan and Jorge Arce, clash on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING (SHOWTIME, 9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).

Darchinyan’s newly acquired 115-pound International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Association (WBA) world titles will be on the line.

The once-beaten Darchinyan (31-1-1, 25 KOs), of Sydney, Australia, by way of Armenia, will be making his first defense since unifying the 115-pound division with a demonstrative ninth-round knockout over Mexico’s Cristian Mijares Nov. 1, 2008, on SHOWTIME.

Darchinyan, who entered the ring as the IBF champion, walked out with Mijares’ WBC and WBA belts after blowing away the favored champion in a career-defining performance.

The popular, crowd-pleasing Arce (51-4-1, 39 KOs), of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, is the current WBA interim super flyweight champion and is a former WBC 115-pound and WBO 108-pound titleholder.

Arce has been victorious in five consecutive fights, including a fourth-round TKO over Isidro Garcia Nov. 1, 2008, to capture the interim WBA strap, and has won 31 out of his last 32. The only loss during his scintillating run came on a 12-round decision to Mijares on April 14, 2007.

The 12-round world title fight, co-promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, LLC, and Bob Arum’s Top Rank, Inc., will take place at a site to be announced.

SchoolOfHardKnocks :  Darchinyan stops Arce, Arce has no defense and is so easy to hit.

rudy:  Think Vic's style will get smothered by Arce's aggressiveness and combination punching. Plus the dude can crack, yea he was schooled against Mijares, but that Mijares was on his game using his boxing skill throughout the night. Arce will go to the body, head, throw uppercuts and not let Vic get off. That pawing jab and straight left wont be in effect against El Travieso.

Mr. Beemer:  Most of you were talking crap about Vic before his match with Mijares, same thing is happening again, just make sure you guys have the white towel handy just in case Vic might want to send Arce to hospital. Armenia!!!

Fistic Fury:  If these great fights keep being made I might cry tears of happiness, if any get cancelled I'll be crying tears of sorrow. Either way I better get down the shop and get a box of hankies :)

andy from newcastle:  The sad thing about this fight is that it is so early in the new year. There'll be so much happening over Christmas, the two antagonists won't have time to get the pre fight show into full swing, and as I said before the Mijares fight, win or lose, I wanted to see Evil Vic against Arce for the pre fight battle as much as the fight itself. Two of the shyest most humble and retiring guys in boxing. Loooooooovvvvveeeee IT !!!! Toonoy ps, Don where are you now? Are you still heading to Newcastle tomorrow? If you have the dosh, the Gateshead Hilton is right on the river Tyne, five minutes walk across the bridge to the centre of Toon and all the fun. Newcastle are playing away Saturday, in Middlesborough, a short train journey, and away fan tickets should be available from St.James Park, our ground in Newcastle if you fancy a bit of local culture.

Fistic Fury:  @ ANDY, don't you dare send him to smoggie land. The riverside stadium is the biggest public urinal i've ever seen!!! Followed closely by the stadium of light of course.

andy from newcastle:  It is sort of like Cleveland, Ohio in the seventies and early eighties. Ironic 'Boro is in Cleveland, UK, as well. At least he would be able to tell his mates he saw the cast of The Hills Have Eyes. Toonoy

Abraham UIT:  Vic is pretty mean in the ring. Meaner than Arce. Plu Vic is the better fighter. Vic wins.

SchoolOfHardKnocks laughing at how easily Pacquiao's sparring partners was hitting him:  Vic walks the walk and talks the talk. I like him as fighter. He is not trying to play with you. He shouldn't try to move up to high because his little power wont effect guys like Rafael and Israel. They would KO him. But Arce and Montiel is no match for him.

Radam G aka Humble PRG laughing at the experts:  Wow! SchoolOfHardKnocks, I got a school for the blind. You are welcome to apply any time. I got fix that sight up for you, lmfao!Or maybe you just got something in your eyes. Any way, a lot of people are going to have tears in their eyes after Manny destroy Oscar in easy fashion. Don't be surprise to see Oscar get scorched in less than three, but I'm giving him seven to last. Holla!

Pachachis:  Darchinyan, just wait and see what Arce is going do to you when you face him. He is going to hit your big mouth and shut it for good, the way Barrera did to Hammed, mark my word you little punk. You are just jealous of Arce’s popularity. Why is he so popular? His style and cojones, that’s why...

SchoolOfHardKnocks sayin Pacquiao is very OVER RATED!!:  Radam, I guess you know me and you saw Manny sparring on Thanksgiving huh Radam...I'm not worried about it. But all I know is Pacauiao is very over rated and that won't change. If you think Oscar will get beat in three then why don't you put your money where your mouth is you poser! who is selling wolf tickets? You just talk. Pacquiao is a humble guy but you are not.

JUAN:  IM WITH YOU SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS. I MEAN AN OLD BARRERA WENT 12 WITH PACMAN HOW IS OSCAR NOT ? PACMAN CAN BARELY TAKE A PUNCH FROM MARQUEZ AND BARRERA. HOW'S HE GONNA T AKE A OSCAR HOOK...

Coco:  If you guys saw Arce's fight with the Panamenean in September, you would think that the younger, less bruised Darchinyan would win a matter of rounds just because Arce has no intention in using defense ever, but Arce still has a heart of a Warrior and knows this could be his last chance to do something great before he retires, which should be coming soon. I say Arce just cuz I'm Mexican, but I respect the Armenian Bull.

arto:  Armenians have always been great boxers and will alwas be great boxers. Much respect to the Armenians.

Suits, Stop Squabbling, And Posturing, AND MAKE FIGHTS!
"Floyd may very well be the most talented boxer but that he does not understand that what the fans, who ultimately pay the bills, watch fights for is entertainment. At the moment, he not only ignores that reality but frankly doesn't seem to care. Neither about our wishes and/or our passion for to see great fights. Thus, there is little Go ... and even less Show. I am vaguely interested in the Business of Boxing. Frankly, it is a mess on a good day and worse on it's worst. I prefer reading the Business pages where brilliant men and women develop skills and strategies to create incredible value and wealth (for themselves and others) in ways far more effectively and meaningfully than those who Rule ...some might say Ruin...this beautiful Sport." --FE'ROZ, speaking for a majority of fight fans
