TSS Prediction Page: Hatton/Malignaggi

The young lion has a feeling that the old lion has gotten soft, isn’t as able to defend his turf, and think the time is right to attack, and wrest the leadership role of the pack—among the 140 pound pride—from the elder.
Can the old lion, Ricky Hatton, keep the young lion, Paulie Malignaggi, at bay on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas? Does Hatton still have enough left, physically, to keep up with the rat a tat style of the New Yorker, who will pop the jab, peck with a combo, and then slip out of range? After in-ring wars, and out-of-the-ring excess, is the Brit Hatton still capable of getting into prime condition for a bout against a slick stylist who’ll make him work for 12? Can Paulie take Hatton’s best launches? Can Paulie put enough on his punches to dissuade Hatton’s charges? Can Hatton fend off a man who may well still be capable of pulling off his mauling brawling one more time? Is Hatton checked out already? Will his contemplation of retirement show in the ring, when the fight goes into the deep waters? Hatton said he had a chest infection in his last bout, against Juan Lazcano, in which he didn’t look tremendous. Legit explanation, or an excuse used to cover up a slip in skills? Will Hatton be the same old, same old, or will his two months of work with Floyd Senior give him a shot of adrenaline, and spur a rebirth in his career?
Those are the questions, TSS Universe, time to provide some answers. Or, more accurately, some guesses. Well informed guesses, yes, but we won’t know if Hatton can take down Paulie and thus be the frontrunner for the Oscar/Manny winner, or if Paulie can snag the biggest win of his career, and have the best birthday of all time on Sunday, when he turns 28. BOWE. People forget that Riddick Bowe has lost only once, a close and very controversial decision in the 2nd Holyfield fight. He's beaten the cream of the crop, having disposed of such luminaries as Holyfield (twice), Michael Dokes, Larry Donald, Jesse Ferguson, and Andrew Golota (twice). I think this will be a GREAT fight. Paulie will have the better hand speed and is the better boxer. He will want to stick and move and out box Ricky. Ricky, as he did with Floyd Mayweather, will be able to cut the ring off and make this an inside fight. I think Paulie will re-injure his hand when forced to fight close and Ricky will control the fight from that point on. It will be a good fight, but Ricky Hatton will come out with the win.

Hatton to destroy the over hyped Paulie Locks, the only fight worth mentioning of Paulies was his loss against Cotto, and that was against a weight drained Cotto at 140, wow he held on to the final bell...and never been the same since. Paulie Locks might if lucky get a couple o rounds on points but he hasnt enough strength to keep Hatton off him...lets face it hes no PBF.

I haven't a clue about the fight this article is about, except that there's only one real "Hitman." Anyway, As far as Riddick Bowe's apparent comeback, I just hope he doesn't get hurt further. During his brief title reign, if I'm recalling correctly, he kinda shamelessly took title defense matches against a past his prime Michael Dokes, and Jesse Ferguson, who was not really a luminary. Bowe won both Golota matches by DQ, but he simply could not deal with the Golota of that time. I feel Golota finished Bowe's career. I was a big fan of former champ Pinklon Thomas, who fought Bowe. I only read about it in KO Magazine at the time, did not see that fight, but Bowe called Pinklon a "diehard." And the reporter ended his report by saying, 'Let's hope it doesn't come to that.'

This fight will be very one-sided with The Hitman applying constant pressure and hurting Pauli, who will be completely unable to hit Hatton with anything that will stop him. Pauli, unable to get Hatton's respect, will be in survival mode by the third round. Hatton will hurt him to the body and the fight will be stopped somewhere within rounds 6-8.

I like RICKY HATTON by late stoppage in a messy brawl. Should be pretty entertaining. I like RIDDICK BOWE by early stoppage. You know, Bowe is only 41 years old, which is not too old these days, particularly in the heavyweight division (Bowe's younger than Bernard Hopkins). He also has been virtually inactive for more than a decade and has thus taken no punishment. If he gets back in shape, he could be the answer to America's heavyweight futility. Bowe's only loss was to a prime Holyfield in the razor-thin Fan Man bout. Otherwise, he's starched everyone he has faced. Can you imagine the PPV numbers for Bowe - Golota 3? (Golota's injury was entirely legitimate against Austin - he WILL be back). If Bowe wins a couple fights, and Golota notches a W, we could be staring at a true superfight next summer: Bowe - Golota 3, The Final Chapter.

I don't like Paulie M. at all but I think he'll beat Hatton. This fight will be a clinch-fest and I think the referee will be as much a part of the story as the fighters. I'm not a fan of the hug and mug style of boxing, the ode to John Ruiz style, and that's what this is. Riddick Bowe is back? What does he weigh? Is he in shape? I wasn't changing subjects. If you would take the cover from over your eyes then you would see what Im talkin about. I was usin the other guys as an example. First of all Pacquiao was hurt in the fight against Morales the first time. That why he wouldn't put pressure on because he was scared to get caught coming in like he will in Dec. 6th. He said he was hurt in the David Diaz fight. If Bum David Diaz can hurt him and that to me was once again a setup just to make him look good. I think I will change my name to the ORIGINAL REALTALK because you are not coming with it...lol When I mentioned promoters RealTalk I was saying that Top Rank is not puttin Manny in the fights that he should be in because they know there are certain guys out there like Campbell,Guzman,Juan Diaz and Soto that would expose him and show he is not the fighter you guys think he is. Just to show you what I'm talking about. I think all of the guys that I just mentioned can beat Manny but I think if they went up in weight to fight someone bigger like Oscar they would also get destroyed. RealTalk, even though I got you wobbly a little I didn't want to put the final touches on you because I see you have a future in the game...lol I agree that Hatton didn't do a whole lot different but I did see some changes. This is his first fight with Floyd Sr so I didn't expect a dramatic change. just some suttle differences. He was more patient and wasn't jumping in as much and holding on the inside. Timothy Bradley and Lamont Peterson are not battled tested so when the pressure is really on I don't know if they can handle the pressure. The best way to break down a young fighter is constant pressure. They will definitely fold. Right now I would like to see Hatton fight Zab. What do you think?

That would be a GOOD one . Zab doesn't do good with pressure fighters , but Hatton won't like the uppercut one bit . Hard to pick this one . Zab boxed good in the Clottey fight the fight after was so so . Hatton will swarm and maul him , but will eat some wicked shots to get there. I think I'll go with Zab by early to mid. round KO . Given Hatton doesn't improve his defense , if he get some slickness, or move his head game than he gets the nod . My pick is Zab by KO . Dueces
