The Road Warrior stuck close to home on Nov. 11, and earned a win over Aaron Norwood. This was a stay busy fight...a win over Calzaghe would be a legacy maker.

Glen Johnson Wants Calzaghe

Dear Joe,

Congratulations on your win over Roy Jones last Saturday night. I’m happy to see that you’re finally getting some overdue credit, and now that you’ve accomplished what you wanted to against Jones and Bernard Hopkins, I think it’s time for you and I to settle some unfinished business.

I’m sure you remember, but if you don’t, you previously agreed to fight me three times in the past, yet all three times you pulled out of the fight due to injury and we never had the opportunity to give the fans the fight they were all waiting to see.

Well, now is the time to make up for all of that, to finally agree to fight me.  You’ve done a lot in your career, but for you to truly cement your legacy, you know we must fight.

I’m well aware that the name Chad Dawson has been tossed around, but I already beat him in the ring and the only people who didn’t know it were the judges who rendered the most controversial decision of 2008. In fact, 80 percent of the viewers watching the fight on Showtime felt that I won.  But the fans know, Dawson knows, and you know who won that fight.

So fighting Dawson serves no purpose other than giving him a big payday.  To truly prove yourself as the best fighter in the world, pound for pound, fight me, the man who knocked out a prime Roy Jones and beat Antonio Tarver, two accomplishments you can’t claim.

We both know that there is a lot more money for you to make if you fight me.

You know who I am Joe, and my resume speaks for itself.  Let’s do this, not only for our legacies, but for the fans.

I have been to England three times. I won the World Title there.  Your fans know me, all of England knows me.  Nobody knows who Chad Dawson is!

Any time you want, I would love to fight you in Wales.  I will be there as soon as you invite me.

Respectfully,

“The Road Warrior” Glen Johnson

SchoolOfHardKnocks:  I like Glen Johnson as a fighter, he's tough puts pressure on constantly and has a very good chin. I think it would be a good fight but I think JC would win rather convincingly. I do think if JC does fight again that he should give Johnson the opportunity because Johnson was jobbed in that fight against Dawson. If Johnson doesn't fight JC then I would like to see Dawson give Johnson a rematch. Then the winner fights JC if he doesn't retire.

donputo69 playing with my toenails:  lmfaooooo....you gotta be kidding me....grandpa johnson wants slappy joe?...listen...glenn johnson is cool and all, but he's not in slappy's level...next!!!!!....holla back!!!!!..lmfaoooooo...

Kool-Aid:  Not that I don't like Glen Johnson...but what would Calzaghe gain from beating Johnson but a tough fight??? Not a good fight for Calzaghe. The best fight in the light heavyweight divison would be Calzaghe v. Dawson. After that fight, Calzaghe should retire because there is TRULY no one left in that division after Dawson for Calzaghe to even consider fighting. Calzaghe beat Hopkins...beat Roy...if Calzaghe would beat Dawson, who's left?

Kool-Aid:  Last point...Dawson had the WBC belt and gave it up to get the IBF and IBO belts from Tarver. That's 3 belts Dawson can claim coming into the fight w/Calzaghe bringing in the Ring Championship and is the universally recognized champion. Does it get any better than that? These guys are #1 & #2 in the division! This fight should happen tomorrow!

Fistic Fury:  I think Glen would cause Joe alot more problems than Dawson. His mentality is 'when you get hit hard, hit back harder.' He's a very good pressure fighter and doesn't take a backwards step so I also think it would be a more entertaining fight. Personally I would prefer Glen to Chad...

Real Talk sipping a blackeye about to get on my routine:  I'm with DonPuto69 on this one . Glenn Johnson makes a good point , but Calzaghe would box circles around him . It would be like the Lacy fight to me except the Road Warrior is more dangerous . He did well against Chad Dawson an almost got the KO . Chad got taken into deep water in that one an ALMOST got drowned . Notice I said ALMOST , which only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades . Johnson's got a punchers chance but that's about it . Peace

Real Talk sipping a blackeye about to get on my routine:  I've been watching a lot of footage on Joe and Chad . When I watch Chad I say Joe's got problems , but then I watch Joe and say Chad aint ready . One things for certain it would be a helluve fight !!! Calzaghe's got this extra gear or zone that he goes into in a fight . I wonder would Dawson be able to handle it or would he go into a shell . Would he be able to keep him at bay with the jab and can he adjust to Joe's adjustment . I'm thinking Dawson may need a fight or 2 before he gets in the ring with the fighting machine Calzaghe . I'm just being honest . We'll see Real Talk 08" Peace n Blessings

Stryder :  I think Dawson is the best fight for Joe C. I really like Johnson and I think he beat Dawson, but there has just been two fights with old fighters. I can't tell who would win this one but I think it would be a great fight.

BiG DAWG:  Johnson even at 39 is more dangerous than Dawson is today. Slappy Joe doesn't want to fight Johnson and take a chance of a puncher turning out his lights. RJJ and B-Hop nailed Joe in one round. If that happened with johnson, there goes Joe's O. Johnson is the most dangerous fighter in his weight class. No one wants to fight him. Since 2004, he has beat RJJ, Tarver, Woods and 6 others mostly by KO. When he loses he makes the decision very close, painful (and frightening) for his opponent. Joe has beaten one punch Lacy, a TV contender and an average age 41 1/2 years old RJJ ad B-hop... and Kessler all by decision. Joe is younger and sharper but he does not want any part of Johnson. And Johnson deserves the shot. Plus he never disappoints.

stryder:  Your probably right about Johnson being the most dangerous fighter in the division. I also agree that he has been in the division longer and deserves it, but I bet you if he fights again it'll be against Dawson.

SchoolOfHardKnocks:  Before Dawson fought Tarver he had a mandatory to fight Adrian Diaconu. Instead he opted out to fight Tarver. I think Dawson needs to prove himself first. Who has he fought other then a 40 year old former crack head. Let Dawson fight a rematch with Johnson and then fight Adrian Diaconu and if he wins those fights then there's no reason for JC not to fight him if he hasn't retired. I agree also that Johnson would be a better fight for JC then Dawson. Give the old man one last opportunity since he felt he was robbed in the fight against Dawson

Real Talk:  Wassup Hard Knocks , I 've been watching a lot of Dawson/Calzaghe footage and I agree with you . Dawson aint ready yet . Johnson should get the shot but only has a punchers chance . I got Joe boxing circles around him . If Johnson don't catch him early he probably nver will . Although he can turn a fight on one shot . I think Calzaghe will either fight Dawson or retire as he's clearly the best L. Heavy out there . Peace

SchoolOfHardKnocks:  Sup RealTalk, have you ever heard of Tavoris Cloud? That kid is no joke. Gary Shaw, Dawson's promoter has already stated that he wouldn't put Dawson in the ring with this guy. I agree RealTalk, Dawson has very good handspeed and excellent movement but I do question his ability to take punishment. Calzaghe is very awkward and I think he would adjust better to Dawson then Dawson making adjustments to him. Being awkward is what gives boxers problems.

floyd jones d greatest:  did glen johnson just say that he kod a prime rjj?lol.rjj was drained of muscles and energy at that time.if rjj was in his prime too slow johnson wouldn't know what was hitting him during their fight.

floyd jones d greatest:  It would be better if rjj and johnson go at it the second time around. johnson's win against rjj was a fluke since rjj was so drained that time. if he wins the second time around, he could at least say rjj has somehow recovered after years of staying at lightheavy since 03

andy from newcastle:  Sadly for Glen, this fight just isn't finacially rewarding for Joe. The best he can hope for, is that Joe fights Dawson, and then win or lose he gets a rematch with Chad for less money than he deserves (as always). Toonoy

Suits, Stop Squabbling, And Posturing, AND MAKE FIGHTS!
"Floyd may very well be the most talented boxer but that he does not understand that what the fans, who ultimately pay the bills, watch fights for is entertainment. At the moment, he not only ignores that reality but frankly doesn't seem to care. Neither about our wishes and/or our passion for to see great fights. Thus, there is little Go ... and even less Show. I am vaguely interested in the Business of Boxing. Frankly, it is a mess on a good day and worse on it's worst. I prefer reading the Business pages where brilliant men and women develop skills and strategies to create incredible value and wealth (for themselves and others) in ways far more effectively and meaningfully than those who Rule ...some might say Ruin...this beautiful Sport." --FE'ROZ, speaking for a majority of fight fans
