Kimbo Slice Gets Knocked Out
By Michael Woods
Kimbo Slice woke up Saturday morning thinking he’d be taking on faded veteran Ken Shamrock in the main event of an Elite XC show on CBS. Late Saturday afternoon, Shamrock was rolling, and a training partner butted his left eye, causing a cut that needed six stitches. Shamrock was scratched from the bout, and Elite XC scrambled to find Slice a foe, and save the show. Seth Petruzelli, who’d fought and lost twice in the UFC, was due to fight Aaron Rosa on the undercard, but instead was elevated to the top of the card, which unfolded the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
The Slice camp took a real risk in okaying the switch, and it blew up in their face. The fill-in nailed Slice in the first, with a ultra-short right to the chin, pounded him into submission. The ref had to halt it, as Slice could not protect himself adequately.
The end—of Slice’s career?---came at 14 seconds of the first. “It was a crappy situation for both of us, it was unfortunate what happened to Ken, this was the man who stepped up to fight me last minute, and I stepped up to fight last minute, I imagine both out heads were messed up, he didn’t train for me, I didn’t train for him,” the winner Petruzelli said. Slice was gracious: "It's all good, it's all good. I want to thank this man for taking this fight at last notice. It was unexpected. We still gonna have the after party at Art Bar."
The karate fighter Petruzelli (from Florida; age 28; 205 ½ pounds; 10-5) gave up four inches in reach to the 34-year-old Slice (234 ½; 4-0; from Florida).
In the first round, Petruzelli came out blasting, and Slice was stunned, from a right to the chin. He fell to his knees, and ate a couple shots. The ref halted it, as Slice grabbed him, thinking he was Petruzelli. The crowd booed when Seth celebrated.
Twenty-six-year-old Nevada resident Gina Carano (7-0), who will likely jump up to 145 pounds after another embarrassing battle with the scale at the weigh in, took on Minnesotan Kelly Kobold (16-3-1) . She needed three tries to hit 141 pounds, and did it buck naked on Friday, to the delight of many slobbering Gina fans. Gina kept Kobold from taking her down in the first smartly. In the second, Gina kept her distance, and pecked away with straight rights. Kobold, who had a cut on her right eye next to her nose, took her down with 15 seconds to go and went to the ground and pound. It got wild in the third, when Kobold went for broke. Gina slipped on a choke from the side, but couldn’t hold it. She had more in the tank, and landed two left leg kicks to the head in the waning seconds of the third. The judges’ verdict: Carano, by scores of 29-28, 30-27, 30-27. After the bout, Carano said, “This was my toughest battle, for sure. I feel good man, I feel like I was just in a fight, it’s the best feeling!” She said she wanted to fight Cris Cyborg next.
Andrei Arlovski (age 29, 240 ¾; 14-5) took on IFL refugee Roy Nelson (32, 262 ¾; 13-3) in a heavyweight tangle. Nelson got atop Andrei, and had side control; he looked to execute an armlock. Leg kicks hurt Roy, and by the end of the first he looked a little gassed. Andrei couldn’t keep his feet moving enough to stay out of Roy’s grasp as much as he would’ve liked in the second. Then he got distance, and the tide turned, quick. Knees to the body, uppercuts, and then a right uppercut/overhand right to the temple sent Nelson down, and out. The ref waved it off, so Arlovski wouldn’t land a strike as Nelson was out of it. Nelson protested the stoppage, but the call was the right one. The official time was 3:14 of round two.
Elite welterweight champ Jake Shields (from California; age 29; 169 ¾; 22-4-1) took on Brit Paul Daley (age 25; 170; 18-7-2) in a scheduled five rounder. Shields passed the Daley guard, but Daley fended him off for a couple of minutes. He then reversed position, and rained down ‘bows. In the second, Shields looked to take the Brit down, but Daley’s sprawl is strong. He smiled up at Shields, who looked for submissions in between punches. The jiu jitsu worked, as Daley couldn’t power out of an armbar, and he had to tap. The time: 3:47 seconds of the second.
Benji Radach (19-4) used his heavy right to knock Ninja Rua (16-9-1) semi-conscious in the second round of their bout, the TV opener.

::::: THAT'S HOW EASY IS TO COMPETE IN MMA OR UFC ::::: Anybody can win from a blow like I always mention. Too unpredictable. That's why the sweet science will reign on top of these half sports forever. Boxing requires more skills, intelligence, rules that apply, etc. So there you have it... it wasn't Kimbo who got exposed.. it is the whole "sport" that got exposed... it is junk that appeals only to street brawlers and those thirsty for blood.

Hey Bro,
I watched Kimbo get knocked out, the first punch dropped the big brawler.
At the end of the fight everyone was saying he had not trained fro this guy, but I thought Kimbo fought anyone anywhere at anytime.
I think it,s great to see this THUG get his brains rattled by a much smaller guy with pink hair.
I will say that I still think Kimbo would have killed Shamrock

Anony,
Do you really think that MMA is that 1 sided? Boxing isn't? In MMA u have to know it all. In boxing it's true u have to be a great puncher. In MMA u have to understand u could loose for a lot more reasons......Don't be that pathetic to clain that MMA is more shallow than boxing....Kimbo never was good. Don't talk smack about a sport you don't understand.

Anony, please know what you are talking about before doing so. Elite XC is the bottom of the barrel. If Kimbo would have faced ANY heavyweight in UFC he would have been dropped the same way. These guys are true athletes that deserve the respect. Kimbo is a street brawler that was over matched in any real MMA fight. That was proven tonight. MMA obviously requires more skill due to the many facets of the game. Boxing is a dying sport my friend, just look at the PPV numbers. Sorry to be the ones to tell you.

I agree with everything you said, except for Ken getting beat by Kimbo.
To Anony - any real mma fan that has been watching the sport since it began, you'd know that kimbo has nothing on real fighters. CBS, YouTube, etc... just put so much hipe into this street brawler that everyone thought he was "the man". From someone who has been following the sport for years, i'm glad he got knocked out by a nobody. It goes to show you that you have to have skill to fight. You can't expect just walk into a fight and win everytime.
I hope he can fight Ken so we can watch that disrepectful Kimbo Slice get knocked out again!
P.S. Those YouTube backyard fights of Kimbo are him fighting a bunch of street brawling nobodies, not real fighters.

kimbo is and was prior to this a side show act like manny mma fighters ( brock leznar, chuck lidell) the sad thing is that kimbo has been the face of mma the last year and with the cbs shows there bread winner towards ratings, remember that the ratings dropped 40 percent on there second show that he was not on!! they gave him cherry picked has been opponents in the hope he could learn as much as possible while milking his fan interest against a 47 year old has been boxer in ray mercer and a 42 year old has been tank abbit, now there tried to pump more milk out of ken shamrock who has lost 5 in a row and hasnt won a fight since 2004 and that back fired in there face when a 205 pound heavyweigt came in last second as a replacement and dropps kimbo with a JAB!!!!!!!!!!!! then beats his head in and its over in 14 seconds!!!! how in the world do they fix this u ask? well the only answer after such an exposing loss is a rematch, there are a few good mma guys like gsp and ramage jackson but for the most part the sport is a marketing ploy and a street fight and coming into this fight the weigh in was all a publicity stunt w shamrock giving slice a fake push and gina c having to get naked to weigh in, isnt this stuff reserved for wwe wrestling enteratainment? o ya i forgot there new bankable star is a wwe wrestler in brock lesner and now wwe's kurt angle is trying to get into ufc or 1 of the many already watered down organizations say what you will about boxing but its not a side show and ill take cotto vs margarito anyday over any 20 mma fights they pack on 1 card, its a matter of time before this show is pulled off free tv because there rating ticket got exposed which in many ways exposes the sport as a whole in all of 14 seconds! people complain about to many boxing titles to go around but at least in boxing the best usually fight the best because thats what the fans demand and thats were the big money is mma is even worse with all these organizations and different rules and rings i cant keep up with and the best guys cant even fight each other because there from different organizations so theres no cross competition just inside trading if you will, thank you kimbo you internet sansation you for exposing your self and the lame tv show you came with as well as mma on a whole, ill look foward to real action like the dawson vs tarverm klichko vs peter doubleheader on showtime nex weekend, pavlik vs hopkins the following week and calzahge vs jones in early nov as well as hatton vs paulie m and lacey vs taylor, these are real fights to get excited about and the best fighting the best or dam close to it in there respected divisions, matter of time before boxing replaces bimbo slice and the side shows on cbs with some real good fights and dont think arum and dibella are not in talks to make it happen its only a matter of time

The first poster who says that boxing takes more skill is a complete moron. There's a reason that boxing is a dead sport and that's because it only requires punching ability, a chin and a very little brain ... in fact a smaller brain size and cavity is more desirable in boxing. MMA requires far more athletic ability, thought and strategy ... it's not a one dimensional sport like boxing and your ass can get handed to you in many different ways. And unlike in boxing you don't get to just lean up against your opponent when you get tired.
Kimbo was a manufactured joke and I never understood why they used him as the poster child for the sport. He's STILL never fought a real fighter in the UFC and he got tko'd. He would get destroyed if he went up against any of the big names. And the argument that he wasn't prepared for petruzelli is a pathetic one ... hes supposed to be the guy that will fight anybody at any time, right? Lol.

I don't think that Kimbo Slice is the thug that you guys cast him to be. He is a very intelligent, articulate young man and definitely not a thug. He is good at street brawling but not at mma. He would not be good in boxing either although I've heard that suggested before. People think because someone is big and strong and can fight a bit they can enter a sport like these that take real talent and skill. The people in these sports are very accomplished athletes that have trained for many years. They are not just the savagery that many think they are. Kimbo got caught and it would have been hard for anyone to recover from the way the guy jumped on him. I'm sorry to see him go.

I'm spot on with DaveB. I think that Kimbo Slice is a brainy Bimbo Spice. He is milking all the idiots and curious of their money. Ain't hatin' the dude for this -- make that money. It's free and legal! And I'd rather have him making hard-or-easy-earned money with legal mayhem, than for him to criminally knock out my Pinoy a$$ trying to get paid. The man has to eat and take care of his business like everybody else. You go, guy! Smash 'em heads and get paid. I'm just a boxing and martial arts purist. Sorry! I will never be a fan of MMA or UFC, with a few exceptions -- Pinoy Time! I didn't even watch the free Saturday-night event on television. Holla!

The truth is that Kimbo slice was a marketing ploy...that ultimately back-fired! There was areason you didn't see him in the UFC. He lacked the talent, atleticism and pure drive of the majority of seasoned MMA fighters, be it UFC or elsewhere. Ultimately he was destroyed by a fighter who couldn't compete with other UFC athletes. What does thet say about Slice?

Really? Is that why Kimbo got KTFO against a guy who has lost twice in the UFC?
Your logic is skewed. Hey, Kimbo could also go and box a few chumps and beat them (and a lot of boxers do that for padded records), that does'nt mean boxing is 'easy to compete in'. Likewise for MMA. End of discussion.
Rick Roma said:
"The biggest upset since Douglas over Tyson, February 1990"
Nope. The biggest upset was Matt Serra over GSP. Kimbo is a low level MMA fighter who was almost beaten by journeyman Thompson. It was only a matter of time before he got exposed by a true MMA fighter.

Yeah Kimbo was a big marketing ploy to get ratings for CBS. Yeah has limited experience. However, everyone loses a fight in MMA. It is part of game. Legend Chuck Liddel, great boxer, excellent sprawl, got knocked out by Rashad Evans with a quick overhand. Houston Alexander got knock out in second with a superman punch by a nobody at the time in James Irvin. It happens in this sports. All that matters is what you learn from it and comeback and win. Hell, Kimbo's record was only 3-0, he was due a loss.

Ive been watching MMA for about a year now and the reason i love it is because it is so unpredictable, 9 times out of 10 you can predict the outcome of a boxing bout and that sucks, To be honest i find boxing nearly as boring to watch as cricket or golf. Most of the guys in UFC, Pride (any MMA Brand) would level most boxers out there and simply becuase of the fact that most boxers chin never gets tested, but every fighters chin gets tested and in most cases its several times in a fight. For example all Chuck Lidell would have to do is duck and dive like he does eat up shots like he does and throw one good right hand and i have every confidence that someone with his power could knock out 9 out of 10 boxers EVERY TIME! Unfortunatly now Chuck is passed his prime but there are a hell of a lot of young up and comers who could do just the same!!
Gary- The reason most UFC fighters dont earn as much as boxers is becuase the sport has had such a bad rep for such a long time, did you know it is still illegal to hold MMA bouts in some states in the USA and it is also still illegal to hold MMA bouts in some COUNTRIES! As soon as this is all resolved UFC fighters will make boxers look underpaid, Theres a reason that MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world!

Anony, say that to the face of a black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu, lol....I guarantee that any brazlilian jiu jitsu fighter that is a purple belt or higher would destroy any world class fighter in a real fight...even a 170 pounder against a heavyweight boxer....I bet you even Rorior Gracie's sons Rener or Ryron, who rarely fight that many Gracie challenge matches would embarrass any world class boxer today....I'm a huge boxing fan, but boxing has many many rules....in a real fight, a boxer wouldn't stand a chance against a brazilian jiu jitsu fighter...thats why I don't even need to train in anything else but bjj to protect myself..you're gay, lol

::::: I GUESS TRUTH HURTS MORE THAN I THOUGHT ::::: hehehehe MMA and UFC sucks big time. I understand the jiu-jitsu fighting a boxer argument but put a jiu-jitsu fighter to ONLY BOX somebody like bernard hopkins and what will happen??? The problem is not the "mixed" thing about MMA or the canvas hugging almost making love postures of UFC... the problem is that IT IS SO UNPREDICTABLE who will win and in between you get a bloodshed street brawl (including elbows) that it is more fit to pit bulls than athletes or class fans like those who understand what I'm saying. If you want to see that sorry ass blood scene between two brawlers, well, have it. If you want to watch a combat sport who has thousands of years in the making and truly shows the capabilities of a warrior who engage in equal conditions to an oppositor (after preparing for months)... then you have the sweet science. Another thing, Boxing is not "dying" and will never be. The lack of interest in boxing comes from a big gamma of choices in cable tv. It is not only from MMA or UFC. I believe most of those fans don't even care about boxing (remember they are thirsty for blood) so they are A NEW AUDIENCE TO A NEW FORM OF SPECTACLE. Others don't watch boxing because they watch movies or "real world" sh*t stuff... who cares. So for me boxing is well and secure until there are BOXERS around. If it is not making the millions that it used... well, I enjoy watching young and upcoming fighters with no money involved as well. MMA and UFC fans should not feel hurt from what I'm saying, you should be used to the critics already. Take a mean and fast elbow from a 14 years old fit young man right in the face and I don't care if you are Mike Tyson in his prime, you are gone. That's how easy is to compete in those "half sports". Ask your poster boy Kimbo.

Don't blame Kimbo for this. Kimbo is a creation of the media. He was already on cover of ESPN when he hasn't done crap yet in his career. The media is looking for next Mike Tyson and they thought he would be the next Mike because he is big black and scary looking and from the streets. But they were wrong, he is a rookie MMA fighter and doesn't have much skill. And the
comparisons to Mike Tyson need to stop. Mike Tyson won 50 fights. What has Kimbo Done?

I think its funny how people try and compare boxing and MMA, MMA has so many more facets to the sport, With Boxing you know what to get you know what to expect. MMA is totally different there are so many ways to win, and you have to be a well rounded fighter to do so ( against good competition ). I have respect for any fighter of any kind. And ignorant ANONY Put a boxer in an MMA fight and what happens? MMA is an art and if you understand how to compare fighting styles you can predict the winners of the fights, you just have to be able to understand MORE THAN ONE FIGHTING STYLE, not just simply striking.
And by the way every GOOD MMA fighter can box better than anyone leaving comments on this page. Except Kimbo he sucks and he is a joke to the sport he is one reason you guys have such a poor opinion of MMA and if he is all you have seen i don't blame you he is a joke. But like i said i respect any fighter boxers, muay thai, jui jitsu, wrestlers. But its good to see people evolve and move on as fighters. (MMA)

Where is the "great" skills???? The commentator said " he gave a karate kick to keep the distance and then each one of the punches was a power punch" HAHAHAHAHA, karate kick??? Power punches???? That is called professionalism??? You are kidding me or are YOU KIDDING YOURSELF????? That wasn't a karate kick, it looks like " I'm scare, let me throw a kick before the bull kill me big time". And the power punches looked more like..."oh, he is on the floor let me throw whatever punch to see if I can knock him good". AND THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE DEFENDING????? LONG LIVE THE SWEETSCIENCE!!!!!!! Professional athletes performing to OBVIOUSLY a higher level sport. You all suck and that's why you are attacking me or those who are purist. It took Juanma Lopez almost the same time to knock out Figueroa BUT it surely looks beautiful and skilled the way he won the fight. Anony, I agree...boxing is a sweet science and all that, thats why I love watching it...but you're missing the whole point of what I'm trying to say...as a sport, I enjoy watching both mma (but only the brazilian jiu jitsu fighters) and boxing....but you must remember that brazilian jiu jitsu is derived from japanese jiu jitsu, which is the oldest martial arts in the history of the world...its over 5,000 years old....from jiu jitsu, all other martial arts stemmed from....first their was ground fighting, THEN, stand up fighting.....and yes, I agree...stand a brazilian jiu jitsu guy in front of a boxer and make them box only, and the boxer wins...but in a real fight we don't have that luxury to make rules....it goes to the ground...and I'm telling you, bjj is SOOO technical, you have no idea...don't just view bjj from what you see in mma...go to a real real brazilian jiu jitsu training center and take a couple lessons and you will realize that is is way more technical than boxing....boxing is definitely a sweet science, but bjj is sweater in its purest form, which is what you see at a true training facility....but anyway, I respect your opinion..and we can both agree boxing is a fantastic sport...I can care less about mma with all its stand up fighting, really...I'm more of a brazilian jiu jitsu guy who enjoys watching how brazilian jiu jitsu translates to a real fight...I honestly don't like watching sub-par boxing by ufc guys, I like the technical bjj on the ground..if a bjj guy is not fighing, I don't even bother watching....thats why I like bjj and boxing....both are very very very technical sports.

::::: I JUST FOUND THIS ARTICLE THAT SHOWS WHAT MMA AND UFC IS ALL ABOUT ::: WHAT A SHAME TO ALL OF YOU "BLOOD" FANS :::: ""Kimbo killer Seth Petruzelli did his first radio interview with The Monsters in Orlando. He dropped a bombshell when he said that EliteXC bumped his pay to six figures but that the increase came with a stipulation -- 'DON'T TAKE KIMBO TO THE GROUND.'
"The promoters kinda hinted to me and they gave me the money to stand and throw with him, they didn't want me to take him down. Let's just put it that way. It was worth my while to try and stand up punch him."
This is terrible news for EliteXC if this is true. Promoters have no business telling a fighter how to fight. If it's true, EliteXC was doing all it could to protect Kimbo against his big weakness, the ground game. In the end, it didn't matter because Kimbo is terrible on his feet as well. But imagine the reaction if Petruzelli loses the fight via KO, never tried to take down Kimbo and then this claim comes out. The last thing the fight game needs is actual proof backing the daily fight-fixing claims that come from uninformed fans and media.
Yahoo! Sports spoke with Jared Shaw this afternoon. The EliteXC VP said he did NOT tell Petruzelli that he had to stand against Kimbo. So does that mean EliteXC Head of Operations Jeremy Lappen did?
This was a good interview aside from the borderline racist references to the "big black guy" Kimbo. You could accept the Kimbo "jokes" on any other show, but with the Monster's history of racially insensitive remarks they were walking a fine line.
Petruzelli said he knew that the fight was won when he saw Kimbo's pre-fight interview with CBS' Karyn Bryant. The former UFC fighter said Kimbo looked nervous. Petruzelli told Kimbo in the ring that he would do a rematch to which Kimbo basically said, no thanks. He also said that he toned down his victory celebration because he thought "he might get shot" moments after the win in the area. Petruzelli mentioned that his manager was getting death threats in the aftermath."" ::::: IS THERE ANYTHING TO SAY TO THIS??? Oh yeah, now somebody will bring the old time mafia in boxing and bla, bla, bla... but I tell you something. NONE of the high profiles boxers that the TSS follow will go for something like this and I bet if this kind of TRASH surface, people will behead boxing... that's how real sport fans should react... if you follow this junk and call this "only a shame" YOU ARE A SORRY A$$ FAN!!!!

I WOULD BEAT THE DOG S ugar H oney I ce T ea out of a lot of those cats I see trying to box badly in MMA. I'm on my way to the gym in one hour. Don't think everybody in here is a keyboard warrior. And I move heavy $hit daily which is just like wrestling so it aint gonna be easy to throw me around he he he. Now I respect the concept of MMA because I respect the father of it BRUCE (THE DRAGON) LEE . BUT THE BULK OF THESE CATS ARE CLOWNS WRECKIN CLOWNS. SOUTH AMERICA DOMINATES THE SPORT. I see like 12 good fighters from the states that might hold up with lets say KELLY PAVLIK. SIKE A LIKE STOP IT MAN !!!! IT'S ENTERTAINING BUT SO IS WWE. THAT DON'T MEAN THEY CAN GO TOE TO TOE WITH A ELITE BOXER. PEACE N BLESSINGS

Boxing is for pillow fighting, ballet dancing cowards. BOTTOM LINE. It has some good elemental striking techniques, but are only inferior in a real combat situation with hybrid fighters (fighters that can punch, kick, grapple etc.

Nobody in MMA would beat Sam Peter!!! Period !!!! They have to fight with extra cushion on those gloves or people would be dying left and right . And guess what people still die. How many people died in MMA so far ???? Exactly . If any power punching practitioner of the sweet science who's not over the hill fought somebody with those gloves it would get bloody early. It wouldn't be entertaining at all. Even with ten oz. gloves De La Hoya still got his eye socket crushed. Cut the jokes, you poppin that crap because you never sparred with someone who's ranked before. I like Ken Shamrock, Cung Lee , Tito Ortiz , The Gracies , Spider Silva , and that wrestler kid from Cali. . and Crazy Horse . What about that kid Crazy horse KO'd who was suppose to be signing a contract to box . LMFAO .... Please most of these cats look like they just got off a couch. The level of conditioning is totaly different. Al those out of shape lard a$$e$ jumping in the Octagon. Get owned by the foreign fighters.LOL Just leave it alone.

Well, Real Talk, that doesn't speak so much to the skill of boxers as the design of boxing.....which is to create an artificial sport where punches are overemphasized over a real fight....in boxing, the rules of the sport artificially enforce distances and rules that guarantee multiple hard blows.....that's why people die. Repeated blows to the head. MMA allows take downs and grappling which prevent protracted punches from long punching range. The only shots are isolated punches coming in and out. In addition, the standing 8 count allows a fighter to continue fighting after being more or less knocked out, a fighter in MMA who would be submitted while dazed.....hence a boxer can accumulate multiple concussions during a single fight, whereas when an MMA fighter gets good and dazed, the fight ends shortly there after....like in the real world.

plink...... plunk .....plink....plink Your comments bounce off my armor like popcorn kernals. Range has absolutely nothing to do with it ....at all. You can get KO'd from a close shot to the liver just like a straight right from a distance. I practice what I preach unlike most in here, an if I land these knuckles on your face with no gloves on somethings gonna cave in or open up. THE FATHER OF MMA SAID BOXING IS ONE OF THE PUREST FORMS OF FIGHTING THERE IS (BRUCE) SO CUT THE JOKES. That's why he asked Ali to show him how to throw the uppercut. DRmikeG good post. Too many of these guys I see in MMA are overrated come in to the ring out of shape ,slow, soft technic etc. If it was my sport I was feal disrespected. The only one I saw with hands was Frank Shamrock. MMA still has a way to go.

heavyweight mma strikers that would beat sam peters, not even mentioning all the ground fighters that would destroy him in a heartbeat. Fedor Emilianenko, Andre Arvloski, Josh Barnett, Shane Carwin, and please do me a favor and look up an mma highlight video of Igor Vovchanchyn and try to tell me that no mma fighter can hurt a man who is only one dimensional in sam peter. sam peter is a one dimensional athlete....the sport of boxing is dead and in denial. hahahahahah MMA 4 LIFE!!!!

good job mac. way to tell real talk. as far as the sport of boxing itself, it is an inferior form of combat if you are to compare it to cagefighting, or mixed martial arts if u will. BOBBING AND WEAVING SELDOMLY WORKS IN MMA AND THERE ARE DANGEROUS CONSEQUENCES TO DOING SO. LOL:) SO MANY BOXERS ARE SCARED TO MAKE THE TRANSITION TO MMA. I HAVE DONE BOTH BOXING AND MMA AND LEARNED THAT MMA IS MORE CHALLENGING, PHYSICALLY TAXING, AND ALSO UNLIKE A BOXER, YOU CAN'T COUNT ON YOUR OPPONENT TO JUST SIT RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU SO YOU CAN HIT HIM. IT IS A LOT HARDER TO MAKE YOUR PUNCHES LAND. BOXER'S NEVER GET THEIR CHINS TESTED BECAUSE THEY HAVE SO MUCH PADDING ON THEIR HANDS TO PROTECT THERE WHOLE HEAD. 4 OUNCE GLOVES IS A LOT CLOSER TO REALITY THAN THE SILLY PILLOWS. REMEMVER, BOXING IS A ONE DIMENSIONAL SPORT AND MMA IS MULTI-DIMENSIONAL. AND OH YEAH 8' COUNT'S ARE FOR SISSY'S. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

:::: I'M TRULY UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT ONE VERY HARD PUNCH IS ENOUGH TO CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE OR KILL A BOXER :::: But I guess you guys know more than doctors and physicians. Aside from that, my last posting shows MMA is corrupted. Why don't you read it? Aside from that, Samuel Peters punch very very hard and how can you tell whoever from MMA can knock him out if they box? That's a big assumption if you think about it in an intelligent or objective manner. Aside from that, THIS IS A BOXING SITE... why don't you take a hike??? You guys are in need of recognition and it won't happen. I truly believe Bruce Lee was pursuing a more ellegant and refined sport; just like he used to portray in movies and documentaries but the savage minds and blood thirsty fans took over the sport and transformed it to what it is now. A freak show of blood with roman style taste. OOUCCHHH... I GUESS TRUTH HURTS!!!!

Anony only needs one example to show how wrong he is re unpredictable MMA conditions: Fedor Emelianenko. Nuff said. MMA being corrupt? Tell us something we didn't already know, like... I dunno, the boxing realm is corrupt, maybe? But I suppose he didn't wanna mention that. Sure, take any MMA fighter and put him in K-1 and he'll struggle to keep up with the strikers in their weight class, but put Thai fighters into BJJ and- oh noes! Same thing happens, they struggle to keep up with the rollers.

No Love For The Modern Glove
Fight fans who are of the opinion that modern boxers could have held their own against guys from earlier eras always seem to ignore the fact that boxers back in the day were more durable than modern ones and had to be because of the different conditions under which they fought. For one thing, the lighter, non-water-resistant, horsehair gloves used in earlier eras required one to have stronger hand bones than the heavier, foam-padded, water resistant gloves used today, so any modern fighter who suffers chronic hand injuries would never have lasted very long in bouts fought in earlier eras (unless, of course, they took a little off of every punch that they threw, which, of course, would have made them much less effective fighters). ---TSS reader Feed The Cat offers some perspective on the Old vs. New debate
